LttP: Bates Motel Season 4.

UNMARKED SPOILERS BELOW

So I just finished this on Netflix.

I absolutely did not see that ending coming. Norman became fully aware of his issues and actively chose to enable them. I feel like he's beyond any redemption now. Side note : Norma's dead, open eyes were so insanely creepy.

I also thought this was a series finale. I have no idea how they're gonna continue this without Norma. I guess she can still be present via Norman's regular delusions, but I dont think it'll be the same.

I guess it's safe to say this isn't cannon with the movie anymore, but more of a parallel, story.

One of the best seasons of television I have ever seen. They knocked it straight out of the park. Can't wait for 2/20.

I think this still fits into a reimagined canon of 'Psycho.' That was the big reveal, that his mother was long dead and Norman was just impersonating her.

Judging by the casting news, the final season will probably taken events from Psycho and expand on them

Season 5 starts on February 20th!

Season 4 had some great moments. Like when they went to buy a Christmas tree. And that family dinner with the sheriff. I think both of those things were in the same episode, actually. Oh, yeah, this was the season where Norman was stuck at a home for a while. Separating Norma and Norman for a majority of the season was a bad move, I think. They're best together.

Anyway, the problem with Norma going into season 5 is that the version of her in Norman's visions is not nearly as hilarious as the real thing. And that's the appeal of the character as played by Farmiga.

Norman is too far gone, yes.

It's been years since I last saw psycho and even then I was 13/14. How was it made clear that his mother has been dead all along and he's just impersonating her?

Jesus Christ OP you weren't kidding about the eyes, chills up and down my entire body every time it would show that lol

Really great season though, can't wait to see how they wrap it all up. Really hope Romero gets out of that jam somehow but I think the final season will be Norman pretty much killing off everyone else.

Fucking phenomenal season. I loved where they went with it and hope they knock it out of the park with S5.

I really didn't expect them to end the season on the note they did, but they fully embraced it in the best kind of way.

I loved how blunt Norman was about everything

"okay thanks for marrying my mother and providing the insurance, but I'm out so you can just go ahead and get a divorce now" LOL

lol yea he really went off the rails. And god the dead eyes still haunt me. I just barely started heavily pushing the show on my brother and cousin. Specifically cause I want them to get to the end of season 4 so that I'm not creeped out by the eyes alone.

I'm a bad person.

Yeah, you are. Shit had me looking away from the screen, I was like are you serious stop showing that already

Man, I hope they don't kill off Dylan or Emma :(

That's the big shocker ending of the movie. Throughout Psycho the viewer is lead to believe that Norman is just being controlled by his overbearing shut-in of a mother. But then it's revealed that "Mother" is a skeleton, and Norman has been putting on a wig and her old clothes and impersonating her the entire time.

It's worth a rewatch, especially if you're a fan of Bates Motel. They pay homage and foreshadow things constantly. More in Season 1, but Norman's condition and Norma's death had to happen to lead this to Psycho properly.

I can't wait for the next season which should basically be a redo of Psycho but on its own terms, should be interesting. Hopefully there's at least one major death in either Dylan, Emma or Romero. I can see Romero or Dylan biting it. I think Emma is safe because of the whole CF thing but if they want to get REAL BALLSY...

Isn't season 5 gonna pretty much be Psycho? I mean Marion Crane is gonna be there, unless she and Norman just never interact and the season ends with her driving to the motel.

Cuse said that they're not just remaking Psycho that doing so would be boring. So I imagine some curves happening.

I was surprised Emma made it through Season 4. I was bracing myself for some weird complications from the surgery. Glad it went smoothly, she deserves to be happy.

I'm with you that there has to be a major death. Wouldn't be shocked if Romero implodes while trying to take down Norman, and Dylan gets dragged back into the darkness and ends up dead too.

Norman is so annoying in these past couple seasons. Comes off so spoiled and self centered. But I guess that's his character.

Yeah, really like Dylan and Emma, Dylan is basically the cool good looking dude I wish I was lol, and Emma is sweet and has been through hell already. Romero? Great character but the most expendable IMO.

I think it's where his normal and Mother-centric personas were merging, by the end he's just kind of one persona and his blackouts have mostly just devoured him. I hate that Norma was so fucking stupid to not keep him at Pineview but her motherly instincts were manipulated by him.

That eyeliner sherif is probably one of the funniest actors I've seen

Richard Alpert is the best.

I wonder if the writers will keep all the awkward situations going with Norma "gone." They indulge in it so much even during very serious moments, and I love them for it. My favorite one in Season 4 was Norma trying to seduce the psychiatrist so he'd examine Norman, and he responded with a flat "I'm gay."

Well I mean you can't go into this series not knowing how it has to end. That's probably why I never got attached to Norma's character.

Never was canon with the movies considering they have cell phones and more modern stuff that wasn't around during the original. It was always a reimagining.

Vera is such a great actress.

I hope Dylan and Emma ended up taking the role of Marion Crane's sister and the investigator who went to the hotel after Marion's death. That'd be better than bringing in new characters post Crane's death.

Without a doubt, my favorite show on television right now. I just love how batshit crazy everyone is, especially Norma and Norman. Glad to see it getting some love on here

Doesn't season 5 start tomorrow? Wonder if there is a planned OT for it. If it is a big enough show around here to have one.

Most of GAF has slept on this show since season 2 I believe, but I've stuck with it. I watched season 4 when it aired. It was great. Maybe the best season. Can't wait for 5 - I hope its good.

To be fair, season 2 was pretty shit. Can't blame anyone for dropping it. Season 3 was better and 4 just hit it out of the park. Can't believe the final season is airing tomorrow.

I can't remember season 2, but I know that I have liked every season, except for most of season 4 until the last 2 episodes which were damn good.

Kill the bastard. Norman was beyond redemption the moment he killed Bradley and Emma's mom. Fuck that scum lord. Hopefully Romero kills that fucker and lives and Dylan and Emma survive this as well. If Norma wasn't such a moron, she wouldn't have died, if only she had listened to Dylan and Romero the dude could've possibly gotten help but fuck that, dude needs the grave.

The scene when Norman seemlessly transitions into "Mother" in front of his doctor, the latter of whom immediately recognizes what had happened, is my favorite scene of the series so far. Both actors nailed it.

I really like Norman's doctor. He was a good new addition to the cast.

I'm completely unspoiled on the final season, even promos and stuff, so I hope he makes more appearances. Feel like most psychriatrists in television are portrayed negatively, as if they're mad scientists or attempting to diagnose someone with ailments they don't have. Dr. Edwards genuinely cared for Norman, to the point where I felt horrible for him when Norman claimed none of his treatment took thanks to his continual blackouts.

Yeah Edwards was awesome. I loved it when Norma was fake hitting on him to get Norman in and he's like I'm gay btw

I liked the long takes of him just looking at Norman, trying to work him out. Very good acting.

I thought the scenes in the mental hospital were tastefully done. I was almost fearing there would be this pulpy subplot woven in but that didn't happen and the whole thing ended up feeling really grounded. Kinda makes me sad though because Edwards seemed to really care.

Can't wait for tomorrow. I've enjoyed it since the beginning but last season was really thematically focused.

I'm watching season 1 right now, and it's so crazy that it's set in present day. I can't stop picturing Psycho taking place in like 2040.

Series all around has had its up and downs with me but I've enjoyed it.

Curious how they unravel Season 5 with Marion Crane and what goes on after.

I went to British Columbia and saw the shooting location for White Pine Bay (Horseshoe Bay) and also the hotel/house. Really cool to be there in person.

Hotel the uncle stayed in from season 2. They had signed photos in the office.
A diner they visit often in the series. (Called "Trolls" in real life)

I think it's a mistake for the show to go into the events of the movie.
