It didn't work half the time. Ranked games were simply broken and player matches were often buggy as hell and the hit detection/awful delayed melee hits were laughably bad. The graphics were nice at the time though I'll give it that.
I played it straight for two years and never had an issue with any games other than some lag on first release. Buggy as hell? Nah. Some of the best thought out multiplayer, yes.
It's a shame that you don't play multiplayer, as CoD3 online was easily the peak of the series, albeit slightly marred by control and connectivity issues. Edit: Scratch that, I forgot about United Offensive. The two games share many similarities, though.
Well with all the praise the multiplayer is getting, I'll try to play online at least a few hours. There may only be some people left on the servers grinding for achievements, but that will do.
Also, I was mistaken in the OP, CoD 3 wasn't the first by Treyarch. It was Big Red One, and I never played it either, so I'm gonna give it a try later.
