LTTP: Dokapon Kingdom

So I just got this title off of some suggestions from a friend, and wow, it's fun! I started a game at about 9 pm last night with 3 of my roommates and we didn't stop playing until 2 am!

Any tips on strategies? We're only just getting out of the first area right now. Do you basically just try to take over as many towns as possible?

Also, does anyone remember if it's possible to hold more than one battle magic spell/weapon at a time? The game does not do a good job of explaining equipping items/magic at all.

The only game I've played that made me pounce my friend and start choking him. I was in last place and he thought it would be funny to kill me while I was in the middle of fighting a boss.

He wasn't laughing when I went full demon mode on him and stole all his shit.

Yes, you take over towns and you buy better equipment. That last part is essential! It all depends on what mod you play though, I'm assuming it's Battle Royale?

As for weapons/magic, no, you can have only one of each. When you buy something in the shop, it replaces your previous item (which is automatically sold).

bestest game

The game is a bit random and you can lose even if you have been dominating all game, but still that's also what keeps the game interesting for so long. I don't think there's one superior strategy other than going for the best equipment and using/avoiding spells as best as you can.

Yes you can only have one weapon and one skill at a time, basically you have one equipment per action in battle.

Play a game with 1-3 CPUs. You will learn all of the dirty moves and cheats you can use against other players, save for the trick where they somehow get the perfect number of moves to do what they want.

Get towns, invest heavily in them. You can only equip one item/piece of equipment/spell at a time.

My best advice is to start looking for new friends now and buy extra controllers for the ones you will break before the end of the game.

you know I personally think a lot of the fun of dokapon kingdom is figuring things out for yourself but anyways. All tips are for story mode, not sure how they apply to other modes

when ever you master a class you get bonus skill points for each level you gain after you master the class. It's usually a good idea to master a class or two early one while you are low level to gain a lot of bonus points.

in general mage > all else as magic doesn't miss (though it is subject to bounce) but beyond that keep your speed up so you can hit people on the world map. a good route is mage into thief or thief into mage as you can get both magic and speed up.

Hp/def isn't very important, it will help you survive yes, but new equipment boosts def up plenty, as for hp I just get it when I play the cleric class as they get bonus hp and then when mastered more HP which is all the more HP you need.

going to fight a dangerous boss... use sleep on it, put it to sleep, and then strike and kill it :p

owning places are important but they will easily be stolen... it's not a bad idea to hang out near last to be the darkling to steal castles. (in general until near the end of the game owning towns is mostly pointless aside from some random events and pointless first place bragging rights early on)

speaking of castles you can invest in them and make the jewels they make worth more money (around 25% of what you invest) which when you give them to the king will result in permanent value that can't be stolen. This is great in combination with the alchemist class... as their level 2 skill will net you about 400k in gold each time you use it if you use it against a low level enemy and strike them next turn. Combine that with duplicating magic medicines (sell for half your current worth) and for the fun of it gambling at the casino... it's not uncommon for you to amass 20mill+ in about 10 weeks.

do the kings side quests, they give you permanent value as well.

I enjoy robing shops they can give you fun items if you win (well the magic and item shop... never rob a weapon shop it's just not worth it) the most interesting one from the item shop is the cunning disguise as that will let you rob from shops and if you fail pin the blame on someone else.

I am sure there is more I can say but this is a good start :p

The last time I played this game was the last time I saw two friends.

Not even kidding.

Played this game with my ex boyfriend a few years back. Emphasize on "ex".

As much as I loved playing it, I will never put that disc into my Wii again. I'm happy with my current relationship...

Always thought this game looked pretty fun and more good party games are never a bad thing. Are there any real differences between the PS2 and Wii versions that make one more worth picking up than another?

i've played both, the only real difference i noticed was the time it took to save.

you save after every week (everyone takes 7 turns) on the wii the save takes like a second, on the ps2 I recall it taking like 15-20 (maybe not actually that long but it felt like forever, and I played the ps2 version before the wii version so it wasn't me just thinking it was forever compared to the wii version... it was a long time even for a ps2 game)

This game demolishes friendships. Even more so than NSMB Wii and NSMBU.

well it does say the friendship destroying game right on the back of the box :p

It's not-so secret that a game of Dokapon's campaign can take almost an entire year. In the several dozen games my friends and I have started, only 2 have been completed.

SO. There is one final swerve the game throws at you that can completely ruin you or let you go from last to first very quickly. Spoilered in case you don't want the surprise ruined for you:
In order to enter the final dungeon you need to sacrifice half of your towns and a large sum of money to get an entry ticket. This entry ticket is also an item, meaning that you can lose it like any other item, FORCING YOU TO HAVE TO PAY THE FEE AGAIN

Other than that, I can offer a few tips.
Inside the spring caves to the north on the first continent theres a warp point that will send you to any temple on the map that you currently have access too. Invaluable for long travels to places.

Visiting a temple will reset your spawn point to be that temple.

Losing to Roche while in debt will cause Roche to pay off your debt out of pity.

Doing things and sending things to the King will increase his favor with you, which leads to a higher monetary bonus at the end of the game. You can sabotage other player's favor by sending him items that he doesn't like in their name through the Temples.

The hero class is not worth the effort it takes to unlock. Robo Knight is worth the effort.

Never Strike bosses. Not red town demon kind of bosses, Quest bosses like Rico Jr. They are programmed to auto-counter if you do.

And finally, learn to give up chasing some goal if you can get a headstart on a higher payout.

Thief or mage going to cleric is probably the best class for new comers. A properly done cleric is almost unkillable.
