LTTP: Dying Light-gosh this game is fun!!

I recently finished the main story of Dying Light and currently going through the game again on new game plus and I gotta say, I love Dying Light. The map is huge, the free running is awesome and the weapon mods and upgrades are zany yet satisfying. I love running across buildings, climbing up wall's and fighting zombies with an electric machete. It's so good. I haven't had the chance of playing the online portion yet with coop or the night hunter because I have been too busy enjoying the game solo, but I'll get around to it sometime. For now, I'm gonna enjoy the zombie madness and that comes with it. Including the electric machetes.

But...the only negative part I think that is lacking, is fighting humans. Especially with guns. It's more like a first person shooter and less first person zombie beat em up.

It really is. One of the best feelings of character progression in terms of skills. You start as a coward running away from basic zombies and go to being a badass taking on virals during the night.

The upgraded drop kick is one of the greatest character skill upgrades of all time...

Still keep it installed on my rig, one of the fee games I can play over and over, its a pity the expansion isnt as close to being as good.

It actually does loot worse than Dead Island, which well... isn't a game that most people look back fondly of in most aspects. Weapons were plentiful, there was really no difference in play between them. The second half is simply "pick up a bunch of guns and use guns because why not everyone has guns for you". Rarity didn't seem to mean much in a practical sense.

One of the best games of this generation for sure. I couldn't believe that the gameplay would be so compelling. Hopefully for the sequel they work on the voice acting and the shooting bits.

I bought it on May 13th off Humble Bundle's sale and the three DLCs that aren't part of the The Following Enhanced Edition and it's been the only game I've been playing since. I've already put somewhere over 40 hours into it. >_>

I'm only 5 hours in, I enjoy it but for now one thing I'm not really fond of is that basically there's no need to fight the zombies, you just have to run and run, and the weapons are degrading quite fast

Yes, exactly. You started off only being able to use rusty pipes and shit, then by the end, you are an unstoppable zombie slaying machine.

The dropkick. Such a beautiful technique. There is nothing more satisfying than dropkicking a zombie off a building or into a bus.

I really loved it at first but after a couple of hours I felt far too over powered and the game became boring because of it IMHO

It lost all tension and just became a generic zombie game.

There's ALWAYS one.....

Back on topic, funny enough I came back to this a couple of days ago and been playing nothing else, I am trying to do the side mission where you reset the master panel at night....main quest wise about to go to old town. Never played the following either I'm looking forward to that.

I will sing my praises from the rooftop every time chance I get for this game. One of my favorite games this generation.

I also love drop kicking zombies off of rooftops. Never gets old.

Secret game of the generation so far.
Yeah, and probably my favorite open world in terms of how it drives the gameplay. The parkour works great, the day/night transitions motivate you to move quickly, the environmental traps to take advantage of for escapes or ambushes, periodic events like supply drops, and exploring for phat loot and survival gear put it a step above the rest out there.

Most open worlds are just tourist attractions with self-contained missions scattered about. Dying Light nails the open world roaming and exploration with mechanics that reinforce the setting so damn well.

But yeah, the spongey human enemies and shooting in general sucks. I think they also massively dropped the ball in the driving based DLC.

The Following, unfortunately, isnt nearly as good as the base game. Trading parkour for vehicles wasnt the best move IMO. ALso if you are playing on consoles, the frame rate is total shit when in a car. The Uber zombies is also a good idea on paper but the execution is pretty terrible.

I finished Dying Light, and I liked the things it did well, but loot wasn't one of them. A lot of recent games seem to have a really careless, bare bones loot system that doesn't add much if anything but time spent in menus.

Based on how much I disliked Dead Island, Dying Light annihilated my expectations of it. I'll have a lot more confidence in Techland's next project, now.

It's weird, I bought it with the season pass almost two years ago, but never beat it. Something about it just never clicked with me.

I'm in the minority and really enjoyed the Buggy as it changed things up and allowed me to get to places faster. If Dragons Dogma had a vehicle, I'd probably finish it.

I still don't understand how someone can hate Dead Island and turn around and call Dying Light their goty, It's the same shit but you can climb up walls.

It's significantly better in every aspect.

I liked Dead Island but it doesn't even compare.

It's more than climbing. Its about covering a lot of ground quickly, and staying above street level to avoid most of the walkers, thus the parkour moveset, which makes perfect sense in the setting and is fun as hell too.

Why cover a lot of ground quickly? Because when night falls, the hammer comes down, and the quick monstrous enemies come out and hunt you down. The silent darkness when the sun sinks below the horizon in Dying Light is one of the most unsettling things I've ever experienced in a game. And once its dark, its very dark with almost the entirety of the city without power, and it's all about speed, using traps wisely, and your UV flashlight to allow you some quick breathing room. Knowing some quick routes from different safe zones helps too, which all doubles down on what you've learned and explored during the day.

Its damn well done.

The story and characters in Dead Island were offensively bad, so much so that most people seem not to care to even remember them. Even if Dying Light has a pretty... not really interesting story (it felt more like "Far Cry: Zombies", it at least didn't make you want to swear off voiced dialogue forever.

How is Dead Island remastered if you've never played it before? And also playing it after Dying Light?

Better loot than Dying Light (especially if you're coming from Diablo 3/Borderlands 2), though still not great. The game as a whole is frustrating as hell, and the last act is just sorta "there".

Honestly not something I've been feening to replay ever. And I had to play it a few times because the original would corrupt your saves on EVERY platform. To the point where the remaster has the option to try and salvage them.

Got a bit repetitive for me, also I really wanted to enjoy the melee but having weapons break constantly was some serious bullshit.

I ended up going with guns and by the time I got to the second town/area I got bored and dropped it.

What a wonderful game only to be followed up with an expansion that forgets why the game was interesting in the first place.
