LTTP: Dying Light - I wish the entire game was as fun as when I first started it

As I and others said, It's about avoiding and running around zombies in the beginning, but later in the game they are nothing like sponges. 1-3 hits is enough and with unlocked skills you can kill multiple enemies with a single slash.

There's a shitload of weapons plus you can craft your own, the durability is there to prevent you from being attached to one weapon. They are really dispensable. There's even a skill to throw your weapon. And "took more hits than a weapon durability" is a hyperbole that's nowhere even close to reality,

I got the game last week and I will echo the OP statements regarding killing zombies. It's really difficult. It's not just a matter of avoiding early on either, as you'd hope they'd give you quests wherein the numbers of zombies were equal to your level. But in reality there are very few quests for me at this point, and they're much too hard for my character. I've taken to slogging around and grinding. One zombie takes at least 7-10 hits. By that point if there was one you've got 3 or 4 around you and your weapon is trash.

I'll believe people when they say it gets easier, but early game is a very steep climb. I played and beat Dead Island and it wasn't nearly this difficult.

Having really low expectations of the game, and playing it just before the expansion came out i really fell in love with the game. Started on hardest difficulty and never looked back. Except for a couple of the tougher foes ("bosses") i didn't mind the weak weapons, that just made the game more suspensfull.

The expansion, that i didn't particulary like, as the car took center stage and removed a lot of the parkouring.

For the sequel i hope they fix the audio (as in the audioques should alert you of where the zombies are and if you hear people shrieking and breaking stuff you should be able to see it as well) and remove the swapning hordes.

Let them come walking from far away (they can smell you) but not spawn around you when you turn your back.

Loved the game!

They fucked up with this part when The Following was released and never patched it to be like it was when the game first came out. That's my only complaint of the game..

Oh I aimed for the head alright. Still by end game it took 5-6 or more hits to take one down. Critical hits became more common I believe but it was still unacceptable.

The number of hits zombies took to be killed is a very common complaint around the internet, so I'm not going to pretend that it's not an issue when I also experienced the same frustrations.

Were you using blunt weapons?

A key trick is to use only blades. Even a few hours in, you can OHK almost any zombie by cutting their head off.

I start most games on hard because I like a challenge and I like survival elements

Dying Light gave me neither, just big fucking sponges that aren't any fun to fight that sap all your durability

Apparently it was better before the patch idk,I got it for black Friday

A) see it more as an RPG or Resident Evil 1 where zombies aren't easy to kill (initially)

B) start on Normal until you learn all your survival techniques

C) if you ignore zombies for the first 1-2 hours, you can then go at them with the "throw" ability, explosives, and better blades. All of these can OHK zombies if you play your cards right.

You can power level if you throw molotovs into crowds of zombies, throw them into spikes, or beat them up at night time (throw off rooftops is a good night time move).

D) there is seriously a lot to the game and the zombies are only sponges at the very beginning. It seriously sounds like you tried for 30 minutes and gave up.

Dead Island was a 4/10 for me but Dying Light is a 9/10.

However they have definitely made it harder and slightly less well balanced after the big patch. Maybe reinstall and don't patch it? You'll be stuck on Normal but that's good to begin with

I actually preferred the tougher zombies of the beginning. I've always wanted a zombie game where the zombies are "malleable" and you've got a decent arsenal of moves to attack them with, but killing them is more difficult. The kick attacks were really great in that regard. Before I earned the insta kill stuff, I remember fondly having to knock zombies off of their feet and then proceed to whack and curbstomp them until they were really and truly dead. The environmental traps were more important too. And some times you just had to run, like in those early trailers.

I liked using whatever was at hand as a weapon, ala Dead Rising, and later discarding it rather than building my arsenal purely from locked boxes full of strangely numerous medieval swords and stuff.

I enjoyed the game less as it went on. The regular malleable zombies became--in my experience--far too easy to kill. And the special zombies were just nuisances and no fun to fight.

Still haven't quite beaten it yet, nor have I touched the DLC. Maybe I'm holding out hope for a Pro patch.

I crafted a bow and one shotted zombies immediately. Balance on that thing is ridiculous, it doesn't even break.
