LTTP: God Hand - Greatest action game ever made?

I finished the KMS challenge and it was one of my top 10 moments in my gamer career, so hard but satisfying.
Just googled KMS. Yeah, not sure if I'm Alexander enough for that :lol In particular thinking about the final stage. But I might give it a try.
tech wise and maybe the camera. Walls that disappear and not a perfect framerate, but I still enjoy it as today.

At one point I was really asking myself, if that was intentional...
I never played it myself, but I liked the fact, the better you got at it, the harder the game got.

I was considering getting it on PSN, but it looks so dated.

In EU, it should still be on PSN sale until tonight. Not much of a loss at 4€, even if you wouldn't like it.

It hasn't aged a day. Graphically, yeah, the stages look pretty lame - but they always did, ever since the day the game came out. Play God Hand if you have any interest in the genre at all.

Awesome game!
Even with low production values it was loads of fun and charming. And I actually love the art direction. True heir to the old 2d beat'em ups (full of references too!)

This is one of the best console games of all time. All about that sick gameplay. One of the few games I will be able to play forever I think ..

Speaking of which, I looked up the director of God Hand and his upcoming Evil Within game looks insanely good...

Lol, that's true, that bug saved my ass several times the first time I played it.
Give a chance to the KMS challenge. Be aware, there are parts where you absolutely have to cheat or play dumb in order to survive. Random examples: power rangers, Evil Trio (when they fight you all together, that's crazy)

Serious post? If so, you can check out pretty much any Mikami game, they are all amazing. I also played Dino Crisis for the time this year, after it kinda flew over my head back in the day, and that game too was still really fine to play today.

I love God hand more then most character action games because it provides a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of these types of games. I love the amount of combat options you have and being able to figure out your own juggles and how to approach combat in any way you want. Then combining that with its fixed camera angle and making it work and feel natural at the same time. And Gene is one of my favorite characters in a game.

Shmups would probably get really boring too if they went on half as long as God Hand

Probably, but Shmups are a completely different genre so the comparison doesn't make much sense to begin with.

IMO God Hand is incredibly varied in it's encounter design, even if they're all based on beating the hell out of people. It's very similar to Resident Evil 4 in that way.

I sincerely only have two problem with this game:
How slow the character rotates and the too zoomed in camera.
Nothing that a little more polish in an hypothetical sequel couldn't do though.

While the game could be more polished IMO those two things are more design choices than flaws.

I also played through this for the first time a few months ago. While it is certainly amazing, I feel it could have really benefitted from some more thoughtful level design. Still, I can't think of a better hand to hand beatemup game since Streets Of Rage 2.

Playing this game always felt like watching a goofy cartoon, but in a good way. I loved to try out different moves just to see what would happen. It is worth noting that the quick time events were done right in this game, imo. The beauty of God Hand is hard to describe, it is pure and utter fun. A masterpiece, for sure.

The dodge stick allowing you to dodge IN PLACE + the combo creator are the single best additions to the beat em up/brawler genre since...Final Fight/Streets of Rage really started them out.

It's such an incredibly feeling that you don't get in other games where you simple dodge completely out of the way, and it's a cool risk-reward system where you're in a better position to counterattack by dodging in place, but it's much riskier and likely to get you hit if you do. Basically, I love it

Never has beating the living daylights out of people felt as good as it does in this game

It's a game that knows its a game, power ups are giant fruit, the enemies are ridiculous, the gameplay is masterful

Game is hard as hell too, beating the final boss on my 2nd attempt is something I wish i could put on my CV

Yep, also it gives you a sense of overpower at first until you realize that some enemies have attacks in their standard combo that can't be dodged with the right stick. You need to react fast and do a lateral move at the right time.. amazing.

It also gives you a level of strategy as well, I remember a boss destroying me over and over only for me to switch up my moveset and playstyle to get an edge on the boss, and after that i managed to beat him

I didn't know PCSX2 had Widescreen support for this game.

I have to play it now. It's the only Mikami game I haven't played, other than PN03.

The answer to your question is yes. The game's biggest flaw might honestly be that it goes on too long for the genre that it's in. But it usually has plenty of variety in things you're doing all the way up to the end. Still, they probably could have trimmed a few hours of fat off and the game wouldn't have suffered for it.

People who say they hate god hand got slain by the first level. This is a proven fact.

Beat the game and NG+ and still hate the controls and tacky art design. It doesnt deserve a mention among the greatest action games. That belongs to DMC 1/3/4, NG 1/2, Bayonetta I/II, Vanquish, and MGR Revengeance. I am very much looking forward to Revengeance 2...make it happen Platinum.

If MGRR deserves a mention among "the greatest", then almost anything does. I'm sure God Hand will fit right in.

At one point I was really asking myself, if that was intentional...
Kind of obvious that walls disappearing (at least the majority of them) is an intentional design choice due to the nature of the camera. If they didn't faze in and out when within their proximity, your vision would be obscured far too often when backing off or repositioning yourself (which you will do fairly regularly) as you're being rushed down. It looks crude visually, but it benefits the gameplay so I don't mind personally.

I liked it and finished it about a year ago. It is really cool but the game is too difficult for me to revisit it. Too many tension moments for just doing a casual walkthrough.

This game is so fun. A game that knows what it is and trying to do and doesn't try to be other things. No forced other genre elements like platforming or searching or something for better or for worse. It knows its about combat and gives one of the best and memorable combat systems. Dynamic difficulty, selecting moves, the dodging, the enemies, the combat.

Vanquish is not Ninja Gaiden 2 (2008).

Ninja gaiden 2 is not ninja gaiden black ;)

I'd argue that the combat in 2 is better, but Black is more polished.

Ninja Gaiden 2
Not Ninja Gaiden Black?

Ninja Gaiden...is not good.

Nope,that would be Viewtiful Joe.
(And DMC3 is also better than GH).

Can't argue.

Oh look. A thread where every single game mentioned qualifies as "yup, that one is definitely the best game I've ever played" depending on which post I'm reading. I'd say everyone is correct!

Is Anarchy Reigns/MadWorld inspired by God Hand/the same people who made God Hand were involved somehow with Revengeance/Bayonetta/Vanquish?

Technically it's some of the same people, but they play differently. Madworld is cool because of its style over anything.

Not with that shitty camera. God Hand is terrible. Shitty camera, poor dodging mechanics, a fine meta system with Roulette that's being held back with dull brawling, static movement with shit like the 180 button. (Seriously why is there a dedicated button for turning around.). Only good I can find is the soundtrack.

Anarchy Reigns is the better brawler.
