It's one of the better critical shows out now. Having actual sets as opposed to their own home does give the series a more professional feeling.

The latest Wheel of the Worst was too good. Exploding Varmints!
 
I love everything redlettermedia and always buy the random Shit they sell. They are a genuinely entertaining group of people.

The best of the worst with the old lady aerobics was hilarious.
 
The most recent Wheel of the Worst was probably my least favorite episode they've ever done of anything. And normally WotW and BotW are my favorite things they do. : /
HitB is an alright show, for a show produced by hack frauds anyway.
 
I love them. Really great for a movie fan, exciting thought processes and you learn a lot about movie making at the same time in my experience. I always interpret their sketches as in-jokes and parodies of bad scripts in general.
 
Half in the Bag is okay, but I've found either more entertaining or more informative reviews elsewhere. Best of the Worst is where they really shine IMO

Feels like they're putting less and less effort into their videos recently.
Their HitB framing devolved into "Yeah yeah joke here, let's move on" and they don't even bother destroying tapes on the Wheel of the Worst anymore.

Oh well. Hack frauds have jumped the shark.
 
The episode where they realise they are watching some weird Super Christian propaganda music video that suddenly anti abortion and ends with ditching capitalism and living in the woods was great.

RedLetterMedia's content is great until AidsMoby makes an appearance and brings his consistent ability to create dead air after every attempted joke.

As to the thread itself, it's fantastic. I know not everyone takes their opinion critically, but 9 times out of 10 they make fantastic points that I normally agree with. The Revenant review was basically my opinion in a 30 minute format.

They got a bit infamous with some here on GAF with their opinion of Boyhood, but I still agree with it, and the fact they had fun with it despite the hate is all more of a testament to my love for them.

Don't worry about the continuity aspect of the review show, it's extremely minimal and never matters outside of a joke here and there it's just them fucking around.

Definitely start watching Best of the Worst, they basically sit down and pick D-tier movies, both new and old (largely old) watch three of them, and then sit down to discuss them and pick the best of the worst. This has a special episode every now and then called Wheel of the Worst where they have a 'fortune wheel' with cassettes they find at bargain bins and shit fans send them, and they pick them at random and force themselves to watch it. It's really entertaining and if you're a fan of so bad it's good movies it could give you some good titles to watch.

Unfortunately their video game reviews have been largely horrible. Rich and Jack, fr as much as I enjoy them in the other shows, are snobs with unnecessarily high standards for games that feels unwarranted with what they discuss. They complain about stuff like plot that is explained if they paid attention and their comments tend to miss the mark more often than not.
 
Half in the Bag is great, but I'm definitely a bigger fan of Best of the Worst/Wheel of the Worst. Some of the videos they find are truly baffling.
 
Yeah, I only just started watching Red Letter Media like a year ago, then promptly watched all of their videos.
Half in the Bag and the Plinkett reviews are both great ( though my favourite is still Best of the Worst)
 
The only misgiving I have is how Mike, Rich, and Jay (in descending order) have made a very recurring joke out of trigger warnings and XXXX-shaming, and it's like, it's not even really offensive (there's only been one time where I felt that they actually did something that was legitimately offensive where they used a pretty serious slur), it's just really repetitive and tiresome. It feels like it's just one long, drawn-out joke that doesn't have a punchline.

I think that's just how they respond to people telling them what to say/do/think.

Like, I think they spoiled a few minor things when they were just starting out, and people complained about it, so for a while they said "Okay, fine, SPOILER WARNING, there, are you people happy?" Their displeasure at being forced to say "spoiler warning" died down eventually, but to this day they still make fun of the fact that for some people their spoiler warnings still don't go far enough.

Rich Evans is a pretty nice guy, and he's said in the past that he's got no problem with the LGBT community and he thinks that everyone should be free to live their lives in peace, and that nobody deserves to get shit on the way that LGBT have, but that he might occasionally say something ignorant and if he does it's because he's ignorant and he's sorry about that.

But then, he says that he thinks this obsessed guy might be slightly autistic, and Mike says "You're not allowed to say that. You said it before and you got in trouble." And then Rich goes on an "I don't give a shit" offensive rant. It's pushback because the "SJW" crowd is pushing them too hard. It's having the opposite effect and pushing them into the wrong camp. Best thing to do is ignore it and reduce the number of people dogpiling on them.

I don't know. They caught me off guard with the scoliosis shaming, and I laughed pretty good at that.

I don't think it's a response to SJWs, more so just all of them have a rather offensive sense of humor which goes back to the Plinkett reviews.
 
I love this show, but my friends find Mike's delivery too drone-y

Yeah, I've noticed this too. They're one of the few comedy troupes I feel can get away with things like this, but I'm honestly not sure what makes the distinction for me. I'll have to give it some more thought. It's something like, whereas a Gervais takes a loud pleasure in being offensive and making sure everyone knows he meant it, these guys just seem haplessly tone-deaf in some ways. Maybe it's an intention thing. *shrug*
 
I don't want every comedian/entertainer I enjoy to cater to political correctness, they know what they're doing and if they push away some people with their humor that's on them and they'll have to make the decision whether it's worth changing or 'censoring' themselves to not say certain things which might result if they say something so horrible they start losing funding from fans.

There's also some of the fan base that has grasped onto in un-ironically, sadly. Seems like Mike is the one who does it since it pops into episodes he primarily edits. I just groan and roll my eyes at this point.

What was the slur you are referring to, if you don't mind me asking.

The joke in and of itself is not bad, but they've done it so many times, it's just the same joke - for me, it's hard to laugh when I've already been taken off-guard by it once or twice.

Yeah, I'd definitely say that there is a fairly large gulf between Mike and Rich and Rich and Jay on this, not that I think any of them are actual goons :v

As for the slur, it was the "t-slur" (you know, the one used for trans people). Which, thankfully, has only been used in one episode that I've seen of any of their shows, so hopefully that means my polite email about it gave them some food for thought. :p

I think my favourite Mike line is when they're talking about the sleazy director and he says, a little bit sad, that the creepiness of said director has ruined the movie just a little bit.

I suppose Jack could get a bump up over Max and Freddy, but that's about as high as he goes.
