lttp: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast

Was talking about this game earlier this week and realized I was talking about jedi academy and never finished this game. This prompted me to reinstall this.

God damn the shooting engine is horrible. Something is just off with the guns and the weird auto aim thing that I can't figure out how to turn off. I'm debating if I should just helpusobi 1 my way to lightsaber glory...

And also, god I love you Carmack. Widescreen and everything. Perfect.

those first levels always did kind of suck but then the rest of the game is awesome. aside from the stealth level.

Jedi Knight 2 was the best MP ever, i loved the Duel/FFA Saber Only Server, played it years. With jk3 i played the mp 3-4 Years. So much fun :)

Yep! The multiplayer was surprisingly fun. I used to play that for hours and then abruptly stopped for some reason. I actually just re-bought Outcast and Academy on Steam so maybe I'll jump back in soon!

The demo they released for this game was better than the game itself. An exclusive level designed to show off the game's highpoints. I must have played that demo fifty times over.

Though the actual game was a let down.

Was there a bug in this game or something? I played it years ago and there was this one part where you needed to tell this alien a password to get into a club or something, and for the life of me, I COULD NOT GET IN. Couldn't find a password, couldn't get him to ask me a question, found no hint, couldn't bust in, gave up. Thought it was borked.

Maybe use Force Persuasion?

Dont use speed and play on very hard [fps section will be really hard unfortunately on this] and You wont recognize game.

BTW how many of You used noclip mode to get into jedi training room in 3rd lvl? :>

Oh and there is map, i dont remember 'the_pit' or 'the_bridge', where You're in closed space with Tavion, fighting with her is a blast there, definitely check this out.

The multiplayer was amazing. I played it for years as well.

I also once played a few times with someone with "syko" in their name...:O

I played Outcast on a team for like a year. There was an awesome exploit where you could one-shot multiple people with one saber backstab but they patched it. The custom maps for that game were so crazy and creative.

I loved this and Academy, the online multiplayer duels were just awesome fun. I'd love a new one, but honestly I don't think they would be able to re-capture the magic.

I used to love spawning a bunch of NPCs and vehicles through the console to create awesome battles. You could also use a cheat code to make yourself invisible to the AI and just watch a bunch of NPCs duke it out. You could even spawn rancors and shit.

Never, ever used a gun in this game (well, except at the beginning). The swordplay is amazingly fun. I still replay Academy from time to time.

Yeah. If you use a gun outside of only two or three occasions after you get the lightsaber you are most definitely doing it wrong.

Lovely. This thread has me wanting to play through Academy again. And I'm already late for work.

This is making me want to re-install Jedi Academy and play some matches online.
Absolutely love the online in that game. Much better than Outcast because of the added sabre styles.
I'd probably suck at heavy single sabre now because it's been so long. Also had a ton of multiplayer skins like Ninteno characters and Kingdom Hearts characters. I had a really cool Zero Suit Samus that had the things on her back actually glow and cool sabre style/colour mods.

It's so much fun to shoot at reflective surfaces though!

Like I've said before, people(including me) still play the hell out of saber only no force powers Outcast, install it, there are tons of servers.

I have this game for GCN and have literally played it for 12 minutes... should I? I always thought you could play in first or third person, but I didn't know how to switch and gave up on the FPS controls.

Jedi Academy has the best lightsaber combat of any game, period. It's significantly better in fluidity and style than Outcast, which makes it very fun to return to as you don't really have to wade through the other games' pre-jedi levels. It was kind of a letdown otherwise though. The level structure was really disjointed and the levels themselves were small, simple and unpolished compared to Outcast's. Even if you hated the non-saber combat in Outcast, the levels themselves were phenomenal and intricate to the point where it's more like a puzzle game (without DF2's hunt-the-pixel nonsense).

If nothing else JO's early levels made you understand why Stormtroopers always have such a hard time hitting things. :P

You only switch to third person with the lightsaber. Rightly so since melee FPS combat is terrible. See: Elderscrolls.

It's still one of the only Star Wars games that made a Lightsaber feel like a goddamn Lightsaber. Yeah, the melee combat was very very spastic, but hot damn it was fun.

dismemberment console command is a must:

g_dismemberment 1

Saberrealisticcombat 10 made it so the damage on the lightsabers were always fatal. Combined with dismemberment and binding npc spawn 'g' 'h', I'd just empty out a hangar and watch dozens of Jedi/Reborn butchering each other for my amusment.

I LOVED the NPC spawn cheat commands. I would spawn as many allies and enemies as my computer could handle and have huge free-for-alls. Game was decent too.

Oh, and the dismemberment code <3

The first few levels are slow and there are some absolutely obnoxious puzzles scattered throughout the game. Otherwise its awesome. The saber combat and force powers were fantastic.

Best lightsaber combat ever. As it felt impactful, rather than the glowstick stuff we get nowadays.

God we need a current gen Jedi Knight game.

This is probably one of the greatest games I've ever played. The mod/duel community years after was always very vibrant. Also Academy was horrible..

Hosted a yearly LAN growing up and this game was THE BEST. Force choking unsuspecting friends and then letting them go over an abyss, so awesome. Such as awesome game. Kyle Katarn ftw

Dark Forces 2 introduced me to modding and online gaming for pc, and Outcast just continued that trend during the quake 3 years.

The game's multiplayer and singleplayer campaign are both fantastic, and I still hope that lucasart will be able to put out a current gen successor worthy of the title.

Great campaign. Great multiplayer. Great demo. Amazing lightsaber combat.

Billy Fucking D. Williams. What more could you ask from a Star Wars game?

Raven delivered.

The multiplayer and community for outcast/academy was amazing. I spent way too much time dueling, man do I miss that series. I'm willing to bet if you hop on jk academy today there will still be a few servers up. It's a shame force unleashed came out and was such a disappointment. I'd love to see a return to form.
