I've had this game since I bought my Vita around May last year, although last week was the first time I got around to giving it a proper whirl. Really glad I finally gave it a chance; I thought it was excellent all around. It makes superb use of the Vita's unique features without feeling crowbarred in, and I loved almost all of the mini-games which are like decent iOS games, but here they're just a brief little side-dish amongst the sizeable content elsewhere. The story mode was really good too, with some likeable characters and some great bosses, and I thought in particular some of the levels in the Haunted House were brilliantly atmospheric and creepy. There were some great vehicle levels and I thought the score was great, even though it's lost a little bit of its character in no longer being licensed. I've only had a quick play of community levels, but there's a load of creativity possible with the Vita hardware, and I think my favourite overall was simply a keyboard on which you can change the sound of the keys. The game also has wonderful integration with the vita.lbp.me website, where you can search games and add them to your queue, so they're ready to be played immediately from within the game - is this typical for a portable game, because I thought it was such a good idea, neatly executed.
It's my favourite in the LBP series so far, and I'd gladly see Tarsier & Double Eleven become custodians of the series from here on. Although after four similar 2.5D instalments, I think it's time for a significant shake-up with the next mainline iteration - moving it to 3D being the obvious evolution. I'd say this comes in just below Tearaway in terms of essential Vita games, and it regularly goes on sale here in the UK for ~£7, so for those prices you'd be crazy not to.
