Alright I love the gameplay of Mario Kart and everything but for the love of god how do you unlock the other cups? Do you have to get an "A" grade or something? And why can't I get a boost at the start of the race? It seems impossible.

I am enjoying the game and but either I suck really bad or this game is really hard. Any tips?
 
does anything happen when you get a star grade on all the cups?

I don't know I didn't really like this game. I wish they would have had more retro cups.

Actually I wish they would have just had more SNES mario kart cups.

The computer cheats like crazy. Last lap? First place? BLUE SHELL BLUE SHELL RED SHELL BLUE SHELL. ooooooh, 5th place. Too bad!
 
I disagree about including SMK tracks, I though the 4 tracks from SMK that they did include were some of the worst tracks in the game.

I also love the craziness of the game (and don't get it when people complain about things like the Blue Shell, when that is what Mario Kart is all about).

If you get all stars on everything you'll get a little star next to your name in WiFi. If you get two stars on everything you get two stars. I'm about...3 cups away from three star domination I think, never had the skill to quite get there.

Oh, and this is the best Mario Kart ever, for the record.

No way... Mario Kart 64 owns this. The computer cheats way too much in this one and the maps aren't as awesome as Wario Stadium, Royal Raceway, Koopa Troopa, and Toad's Highway.

But its still awesome regardless.
 
I have to agree that this is the best MK game, although I did love MK64 as well.

I would still be playing this game online if snakers hadn't ruined online play.

I hated this game. Worst DS game I've purchased by a mile.

I ended up buying it on the DS Lite launch day simply because I was looking for something new to play. What a mistake THAT was...

I don't understand that. The missions are a nice addition to the singleplayer. Plenty of tracks, karts, multiplayer with teamplay, 8 players, battle and online, great handling.

What more could you ask for? Maybe just keep practicing.

I had not seriously played Mario Kart since the SNES days (though I spent plenty of time with the N64 game) and I simply found no fun in the DS game. Even with the higher CC karts, the game felt slow and boring. I simply couldn't get into it.
 
the game is at it's best offline. Once you can take it online and discover the horrible snaking mechanic used to its full potential, the game is ruined (unless you're a cock then you'll love it)

MK DS is the first game in series, where u have to get Gold to unlock more cups.
 
My favorite game on the DS to this day, and I'd say my favorite Mario Kart. I still love MK64, but I wonder if some of the people claiming it's a better title have played it as of late, as it's not a game that's aged very gracefully.

You ****ing kidding me? Go play MK64 right now and hit DK with a shell, and have him pop up beside you 5 seconds later. That game has the worst cheap AI in any game, ever. SNK fighter bosses have nothing on seeing Peach zip by you even though he's supposed to have a low top speed, heavier characters get spun out and somehow hit top speed a second later even though they're SUPPOSED to have the worst accelleration.

Mario Kart DS has some cheating problems (got hit by 3 blue shells in one LAP once) but its got nothing on 64.

That's the biggest issue of the series, they should add 200CC in the Wii version, Double Dash is alot faster then Mario Kart DS though.
 
This is by far the most balanced Mario Kart out there. The game places lots more importance on skill, rather than getting lucky items.

In Mario Kart 64, a red shell would put you 5 seconds behind or so....in this game, only 1-2 seconds are lost.

The problem with Double Dash though, is that the controls are absolutely horrendous compared to the DS version. The wholte control experience on Double Dash feels very loose and unconnected, compared to the tight controls on the DS.

That, and you don't get triple red shells unless you're pretty far back. Its so annoying to be first in MK64 and the guy in second get 3 red shells (I've seen second get a lightning bolt). Unless you luckily get that x5 banana tail, there's no avoiding it.
