LTTP: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker - Robotic Singing Antagonists

Playing this via adhoc party and playing those Monster hunter missions were so good.
To add to that, some of the radio calls you get are really interesting and funny. Take the time to listen to some of them to see if you like it. I found myself getting really into them as they delved further into MGS's crazy ass plot.
heard the one about Snake meeting Santa Claus?

So way, to get the Paz tapes you only have to beat ONE extra boss fight? And for the Kaz tapes you just have to beat every mission? The FAQ made unlocking those things seem a lot harder.

I'm not really interested in playing it co-op,

Then, I wholeheartly suggest you stop playing. The later missions and final boss pretty much WANTS you to co-op the whole game for the sake of getting upgrades and S-ranks.

I can't imagine it getting that difficult. Actually, the biggest issue right now is you're practically a God. There's no fear of being caught because you can just saunter thru the level slaughtering unpunished.

I would personally have loved to co-op this but no one was available. It can get hard, but I did clear everything by myself (regular and extra ops)

I wouldn't say stop playing entirely, but you are going to have a hard time on nearly all of the boss fights. The bosses are all balanced for co-op unless you're extremely stealthy.

If you disable or stick up all human enemies during a boss fight there's a way beat it solo without much of a fight. The problem is that if any of them spots you even once, you have to take down the boss conventionally. While taking down bosses conventionally, Snake by himself literally can't carry enough ammo to finish most of the fights. You'll have to rely on resupply drops which will lower your score.

The rest of the game is perfectly fine solo (I think there are a few co-op only missions).

I beat the Final Boss
BOTH of them!
by myself.

Fuck yeah/Forever alone combo :D :(

Yeah the final story bosses are perfectly fine solo. I think you actually have to beat them solo. It's all the other vehicle fights that are a problem if you're playing solo.

They really made this game to get in on the Monster Hunter craze in Japan.

Question to Peacewalker pros: If I start a new game on PS3 HD collection, can I transfer that to my Vita (PSP version)? Also, if i do, when I complete a feat that unlocks a trophy on the Vita (PSP version) will it unlock when I transfer it *back* to the PS3 version?

Its been a while but yeah, I don't remember it being difficult getting those.

You mustn't exaggerate. It's all very doable.

Especially if you don't care about rank.

I don't and had no problems finishing everything solo.

Transfarring only works with an actual PSP, you can't do it with the Vita. Which makes the lack of PW in the Vita Collection an even bigger punch to the balls =(

It felt like a console game slapped onto the PSP and then made around its technical capabilities. Still great game and a lot to do, though far too many boss fights. Its basically MGS4 with much more gameplay but much smaller environments.

I assume that simple save transfer doesn't work either (meaning I can't continue my PSP game on Vita)? Really a shame that Sony botched so much of the Vita functionality here...

One of the best games on PSP. I played it on the original PSP with a broken analog stick (Snake kept moving automatically) and still loved every minute of it.

This.
Because of my broken analog I could only strafe counter clock wise around bosses :lol

Also my favorite game on PSP.

If you want classic MGS experience just stick to the story missions.

i whored this game to death on PSP and i will do so again on PS3 soon.
but it was kinda disappointing that the boss took center stage again.

completely single player on PSP by the way.

Peace Walker is right up there with Ac!d 2 on my list of favorite PSP games. I love how much detail they put into the environments. I also thought that the vehicle boss fights were incredibly satisfying. Nothing like laying into something with an M60 after you've been sneaking around for hours. IIRC, the support squads were pretty easy to take down with a few grenades, especially if you figure out where the vehicle is going to spawn them and get ready ahead of time.

I beat this on PSP and I loved it. This comes in after MGS3 as one of my favorite MGS games. Breaking up the game into missions made it much easier to play, for me, and I can't wait to play it again on (my currently sealed) MGS HD collection. I'm hoping people are still playing online when I start playing again, since I really wanted to try the multi but didn't have any friends with PSPs.

And the
Pooyan
themed level was a great surprise.

I've beaten all the story bosses with only the LAW rocket launcher the game gives you near the start (and other default items), it's just a matter of aiming for the A.I. pod.

But I wouldn't recommend playing it without upgrades the first time :p

Are you talking about the repeat fighting in extra ops, or the actual main ops boss fights.

Because everyone in the thread is talking about the former.

and that's impossible. You can't carry enough supply markers

I believe the latter though. The main ops version of every boss is cake.

Imo peace walker is the casual, easy, limited version of portable ops, a step back in every single gameplay aspect.

Story ones, but I can't remember if that included the early extra ops needed to unlock the final boss.

All I know is I don't want to do any more vehicle missions ever again after doing all of them with no kills on solo. gotta love Fulton mines.

Howso?

Yeah PW is really easy(this was intentional to reach a new audience) but I don't think it was necessarily a backwards step in all aspects. (I think alot of the design decisions were made to better cater to the platform than portable ops did)

but I think Portable Ops would have been a better game to port to consoles than PW. I don't think PW makes alot of sense as a console game honestly.

The bosses are extremely irritating fighting them alone. Especially on the harder difficulties.

Tied with MGS3 as my 2nd favorite Solid
Best gameplay of the series, so many extra missions and stuff.
Glad they brought back vehicle bosses(hinds, tanks) from MGS1&2.
and story was better than 2&4 imo.

( ) MG2SS
1. MGS1
2. MGS3 -MGSPW

Chapter 5 and the final audio tape are pure Metal Gear/Kojima. Loved it.

Finally got around to playing this with the HD collection loving it up till the
Torture bit, fucking quick time events
Just cant seem to beat it =(

I just know they were going to ruin it some how, I was enjoying the game too much!

My 2nd favourite MGS game, and the best PSP game that I have ever played, spent almost 120 hours on it, between single and Co-op.

I think the best thing about the mission based games for MGS is the scripted scinarios, unlike MGS 4, you have great level design - specially act 1 & 2 - but you can't appreciate it, in PW with the scripted scinarios of the mission you can use everything the items, weapons and even the level designs to your aid.

you can see the various gameplay types in those scinarios, the stealth missions, hold up missions or the ambush missions, all of it was neat and clever.

then you have the co-op woooow, specially Monhun missions and the big machines missions it was a blast in the co-op.

The story was nice to the point the opening was so great, half way it drops drastically but still better than 2 and 4 !

the only set back was the lack of 2nd analoug in the PSP otherwise perfect game !

those are in every Metal Gear.

Hi Gents, I'm bumping this for a couple of reasons. All the Metal Gear hype has got me to finally come back to it, I've played a couple more missions, and I plan to play more and maybe even actually finish it this time. The other reason is I want to ask people about MGS:PO+. I hated PO, I thought the controls were so incredibly bad that I wrote it off. I tried PO on Vita yesterday, played some more today, and it controls so much nicer I'm going to play more, and it's made me wonder about the only Metal Gear I've never played, PO+, I know there is some sort of single player thing, lots of little missions, is it good?

I dont think PO+ had any additional story elements. It was mostly made for multiplayer content and difficulty bumps.

The controls are much better than PO+. In MGS:PW you control snake with the analog, camera with the right face buttons (inventory with the left face buttons) and action with the R-Trigger. I felt it controlled great and sneaky take-downs were easy.

Recruiting enemies is also streamlined. PLAY IT!!! :)

EDIT: Just realized you were trying to get back into PO+ not PW. Good luck with that!

I think you misread that post.

I'm not saying, but I'm saying: La Li Lu Le Lo and the Patriots.

This is great on Vita/PSP, it's really nice to play it on them. On console... It's nice and smooth but too evidently portable. Too bad the Vita doesn't have it's own version.

You made me to start to play this game again...

Just finished it for the first time. So if anyone wants to help me s rank missions send me a invite on psn it's on my profile

Listening to it is sort of a must imo, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cim4tzpVTvI

Funny thing is I watched that exact vid two years ago thinking the exact thing you did, I wouldn't be able to earn it.

I later did earn it fair and square though, couldn't put the game down till I was done (which automatically earned it for me).

Guys wtf does that miller tape imply? Been years since I went through MGS PW. Something about Zero? What?

Playing through it now. Boss 2 is annoying in that you basically have to be right on top of enemies to hold the.m up. End up getting spotted because of failure to hold up enemies before the smoke grenade clears...every time

One of the best games on PSP, and one of my favorite MGS titles. It truly felt like a console game on a handheld. It put in roughly 75 hours into PW, although I could of easily put in 100+. The Outer Ops missions do get grindy after awhile.

I also bought the game because of the hidden Monster Hunter levels. I was curious about Monster Hunter and wanted to sample it. So, I ended up buying Freedom Unite and Tri because of PW. It's too bad we're getting shafted by Capcom on every MH release. That's a story for another thread.

The controls where great for the PSP. I had bought PO shortly after and gave up on the game because of the crappy controls. Peace Walker is one of the best games on a handheld ever.

It is excellent...for a portable game it is as good as it gets. But it is too different from the other MGS games to be called MGS5.

I'm going to pick this up soon. Would you guys recommend PS3 or Vita? I'm strongly leaning towards PS3 for trophies, but just wanted to get your guys opinion first.

I honestly don't know how people can say Peace Walker has the best gameplay in the series. The most, sure, if you're going to do all the Extra Ops, but every mechanic is just a cut-down version of the same thing from MGS4. No crawling, no sliding along walls, half as many CQC moves, enemies that are totally incapacitated from being held up, teeeerrible shooting. The aiming reticles are all too loose and the enemies all take too many hits, to the point where some of them wear like three different helmets that you have to shoot off one after the other to finally kill them.

And the bosses are just bad. You learn how they telegraph their attacks in the first couple of minutes, and then you spend the next fifteen firing every rocket you have and then throwing out a supply marker to get some more. All of them just put you in a huge, flat arena, and all you have to do to avoid attacks is either hide behind a thing or pick a direction and jog that way until the explosions stop.

It's that Lost Planet 2 kind of thing, where skill and agility aren't really needed because everything is balanced around heavy weapons with huge magazines that you train on some large target and then just hold the trigger down. There are a couple of neat Extra Ops mission types, but they only unlock after you've finished the story and by that point I was done with the game. I didn't really see a point in just grinding out more B-ranked R&D guys to keep upgrading my Carl Gustav so I could fight the same bosses again with even more health.

From what I gather

people like the grind

To each their own I guess.

It'll be interesting to see how many people still say that in a few years.

I honestly don't know how people can say Peace Walker has the best gameplay in the series. The most, sure, if you're going to do all the Extra Ops

I don't even think that's true. I think MGS2:S still has the most. Since alot of the Extra Ops are redundant/repeats.

Then, I wholeheartly suggest you stop playing. The later missions and final boss pretty much WANTS you to co-op the whole game for the sake of getting upgrades and S-ranks.

Only some of the vehicle missions require co-op, and many claim to have accomplished S ranks solo. Also, lol at "stop the game because you won't be able to S rank."
