Lttp:metal gear solid V(no spoilers please)

The game feels good still to the point where OP is, and probably still will do for a little while longer yet.

But I was so disappointed by the time I'd had enough. MGSV out Ubisoft's every Ubisoft game ever made and then some.

Please keep this thread updated.

As an avid MGS fan, I think it is one of the worst games I've ever played.

I agree with this sentiment. However respect must be given to the actual gameplay component of the game and the beauty in design and the achievement of the FOX engine. Kojima could have delivered the GOAT videogame if Corporate interests didnt clash with his artistic endeavours.

This could be the greatest game I've ever played. I have played every Metal Gear including the NES games. I've not sure I have ever come across such refinement in the gameplay department. I quite like the cassette vibe thats going. I'M only going to get the honeybee so please don't spoil. I just had to talk about this game.

Some folks give it a bad rap for . . . I dunno something about story (was never into the story anyway)...But damn...the gameplay is truly spectacular.

The gameplay is insanely good, enjoyed this game all the way through. the story is not near anywhere good but the gameplay sure makes up for it.

I'd be interested to hear OP's final playthrough opinions too, after loving the game play for 80% of the game, the last 20% of the game spoiled my impressions of the game mainly due to the story
or lack there of! i mean its just ends with a million questions and glaringly unpulled threads (er Liquid running off with a functioning Metal Gear)

^ sounds like dude needs to replay Ground Zeroes, there are a few child soldiers in there that get hurt bc of Snake and it is 100% crucial to the overall plot

MGS2 ends with a ninja killing the POTUSA on top of Federal Hall and then life going on like nothing happened. MGSV's story is far more wrapped up than that one.

Probably THE weakest entry in the franchise there ever was...looks all well and good from the graphics etc....but it is the least immersive, I would rate MGS 4, 3,2,1 as the better games (not in any particular order there)....free-roaming be damned, at least they provided more immersion, a tighter structure...EPIC music, and were less baron than this game...

Mother base is a pointless exercise in tedium...they could have made more of the 80's setting...a-la vice city...I found Uncharted 4 to be the best game I have played on the PS4 till date...this game doesn't come in even close...(even though yes I know its not a PS4 exclusive)

I remember when MGS4 came out for the PS3, that was the killer-app for me in getting a sony console for the first-time..this game didn't engross me as much...I haven't played the game in months...and will be soon trading it in for the next mass effect..

Definitely a disappointment from Kojima, the man behind such classics as Snatcher, and Policenauts..

In terms of pure gameplay, MGS V is the best game ever made. It has the best gameplay I've ever experienced from any game, regardless of genre.

As for the game as a whole, there are a lot of other things dragging it down. The fact that the game is simply not finished and wants you to replay half of the game in the second act to pad out the length is a big negative.

My urge to replay is killed whenever I think of sitting through every single helicopter ride all over again

As an update to my previous LTTP thread, I finally got up to the *Mission 26 and beyond spoilers*
Skullface
and
Sahalanthropus
chapters.

I hate the game's little base-building simulator aspects less than I should at this point because
I cheated by reading an IGN guide to quarantine my sick soldiers as soon as "it" happened. It was still a colossal pain in the ass, as it took nearly half an hour to sort through 700+ soldiers for that one aspect. Why is there no sort by language/skill function in this spreadsheet simulator? As was ID'ing the child soldier leader, since none of your intelligence tells you which of the 15 damn kids he is. Just had QUIET snipe them all to sleep for about 20 minutes while I searched the place.

The boss encounters with the Skulls in the
sniper forest/Code mansion/airport
weren't epic, or fun, or even good. The
airport
scene in particular is just a baffling bit of game design. Here, in our stealth game,
we're going to throw you into a complete killzone with a bunch of guys armed with machine/shotguns and telekinesis and 3 layers of body armor. And it's an obligate escort mission, though you're better off just abandoning him since the enemies only care about killing you. Only way to not get bitch slapped around is to sprint, but this also cancels your reload animation and prevents you from healing. Oh, and they have spam teleportation attacks and can only be melee'd as a counter-attack. This game was not built for this kind of combat. The only way to win this fight without pure luck is to cheese it. In the IGN S-Rank guide, they glitch the fight by hiding behind a fence near the mission border where the enemies won't follow. I managed to cheese it by climbing onto the roof of one of the hangars, where they won't follow you so you can just pick them off one by one, and only have to worry about their exploding rock-through-the-ground attack homing in on you even when they can't see you.

And the crazy thing is I'm still playing it. I'm nearing 60% completion on side ops. I've got a decent amount of S ranked guys. My average combat deployment is now 1-3 days, rather than hours. I completely skullfucked the
Save Mother Base
mission by just murdering everyone. At this point I just want to see what other crazy guns I can unlock and how much of a kitchen sink they can throw at me in the final missions.

I just bought it during the steam sale and I'm enjoying it so far. Gameplay is great when infiltrating a base, but moving from base to base is a drag along with the helicopter rides. I wish there was co op in free roam, playing with a buddy would be great. The story is dumb, but hey that's just Metal Gear.

Remember there is a fast ride system between some bases and that you don't need to go back using the heli when doing side ops or free roam, you just select the option from the pause menu.

You don't ever need to use the helicopter in side ops. You can go straight to the ACC after completing said side op

probably the one flaw in the stealth gameplay is with enemies at different elevations. you will get spotted in weird places and you wont even be able to shoot back at them in reflex mode. though it doesnt happen that often since it needs to be in specific circumstances.

It really is incredible. Stealth games feel very stale afterwards.

I should point out that while it fails in the MGS canon and story department, it succeeds in merging stealth and sandbox game design like no other game I've ever played. Taken by itself, it's insanely good.

Yeah the gameplay is amazing - played the game for 150 hours and thoroughly enjoyed it. The story was shit though, sadly.

I also love
metallic archaea
. Once you get used
to the rhythm of CQC counters is just a blast to play, even on extreme. There's no need to glitch/cheese the fight, just get in there and fight them head on
. Way more fun.

Good gameplay means nothing if you're not given levels which offer interesting scenarios and backdrops. Boss battles, atmosphere, music, unique landscapes and threats.

One of the best engines I've played and at a smooth 60fps... and it gets used on boring extraction missions from generic bases in desert environtments.

If the entire game was like the interesting scenario based missions I wouldn't even mind the lack of plot.

The open world meme killed both MGS and FFXV

The game that pretty much single handedly killed my love for the series.

I just can't play a single MGS game now.
The game (especially that stupid post twist) made the whole story shit.

Lttp here as well. got the definitive edition for $10 around black Friday.

Mostly glad to be playing it after all the hubbub surrounding all aspects of the game so I can enjoy it for what it is.

Been playing a ton of it but in two hour chunks since married father life doesn't always permit it. Mostly distracted by Sid missions. I haven't even unlocked the security section of the game and have just unlocked the rocket fist (yes it's damn crazy usefully esp in clusters of enemies.)

It mostly makes me miss the quirkyness of Japanese titles that we saw more of in the ps2 era and a little less in the ps3 era. Because of this MGSV is making me look very much forward to the upcoming Yakuza games. I hope someday weird ass Japanese-quirk makes a resurgance in gaming again.

Thanks guys, now i need to re-download it and play it again. Lol If you're a Rambo fan in any way, i highly suggest getting the Rambo II and III OST's, put them on a usb, and play them as BG music. I think it's a match made in 80's action heaven.

Going on like 330 hours in MGSV. Gameplay is perfection, and the game demonstrates how awesome the FOX Engine is from a technical standpoint.

You're in for a slog when it comes to the story in Chapter 2, but if you adore the gameplay it shouldn't be much of an issue.

If this had good pacing and an enjoyable story it'd be one of my favorite games ever. I wanted it to be MGS3 but on a bigger scale. That game had a good story but with pacing that kept it moving but also gave the player freedom.

I think it is by far the worst MGS in the series. Still hasnt finished, but I intend to make a LTTP too.

Totally agree. I'm baffled by these threads and can't, for the life of me, recall what it is about the game that's so special. I keep telling myself that maybe all of these "OMG, MASTERPIECE, 60FPS GLORY!" threads are an indication that it's just me, and that I need to push myself to go back...

But the game is an insufferable grindfest with zero narrative pull. It feels completely hollow and lacks the soul of previous entries.

MGS3 is still the GOAT. I'm sad people are so quick to overlook that in favor of "smooth gameplay".

I could play this game at 30fps and it would still be one of the best I've played in my life. The game just never gets boring and reminds me of why I used to play games as a kid, I feel like an agent going on a top secret mission every time I play it. It does that to me for some reason.

I think that's why it's such a masterpiece.

Despite what any/all of us WANT an MGS game to be, the core tenet is that it's a 'espionage mission simulator'. And, warts and all, MGSV is an infinite espionage mission generator, pretty much.
