I really wanted to watch that but I wanna check his other movies first haha. I saw the Every Frame a Painting video years ago after I watched Paprika (great channel) but I want to save the rewatch until later as well.

I usually prefer dubs, but I definitely think you should see this one subbed.

But

it was just last year

tell me your secrets great time traveller

The music for Millennium Actress is partly a rearrangement for Philosopher's Propeller, one of Hirasawa's previous albums.

It was the first Kon movie I saw, but it honestly needed 20 more minutes.

However, Tokyo Godfathers is probably my personal favorite. It's the most cohesive overall.

Tokyo Godfather is such a great film period. Love it's message from beginning to end.

Everything Kon made is a masterpiece in my mind. Perfect Blue may just be my favourite because of the dark nature of it. He'll of a debut film.

I'm still disappointed that we will never get to see The Dreaming Machine. I wish they would release what footage is done and fill the rest with storyboards and animatics.

Love this film and didnt realize it never had a bluray release in the US. I'd prob buy it right now. I recently purchased Paprika on bluray and haven't gotten around to it yet.

Supposedly it's still being worked on and they've said they'll find some way to finish it no matter how long it takes.

I skipped the OP entirely, this is one of the movies I really want to see a lot, and like the one remaining piece of media I actually care not to be spoiled about.

Heard very interesting things about it.

It's interesting how the whole internet-stalking is so relevant today, and Perfect Blue was made almost 20 years ago.

Dude was one of the most virtuoso filmmakers. How he cuts through the tripartite structure of Mima/Rumi/Hallucinations is a masterclass. And it's kinda crazy that form-wise Millennium Actress is even better.

One of my favorite Satoshi Kon movie... sad that he died before he finish the Dream machine... mad production probably closed the project forever, which make me very sad...

Black Swan is better than Perfect Blue
How dare you. It shamelessly rips off so many ideas, I can't help but be salty about the uneven success of the two filmmakers.
It's not a bad film, still I'm salty.

I remember one interview where Kon tells how he took an international flight, economy class, and Jennifer Connelly is on the same flight, first class. Didn't even recognize him (no blame on her). She was in Requiem for a Dream which takes the bathtub scene directly from Perfect Blue, shot by shot. Conelly is the woman playing the scene. It's so ironic/sad.

Black Swan is better than Perfect Blue
Paprika is better than Inception
Millenium Actress is better than all four

Ever since I've started rewarching movies as double features to spice things up black swan and perfect blue back to back has been one of my favourites

I watched Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress back to back for the first time last year. Then I watched Tokyo Godfathers just after New Years for the first time.

I have not seen Paprika yet.

It's between PB and MA for best movie. I am really into movies MA hits a cord being based around a actress but PB is so good.

Speaking about Kon has anyone read his manga Opus? I've been interested in getting those two volumes for years now.

repost from an earlier thread, but people need to know about this...

its almost a Satoshi Kon film. Magnetic Rose from Memories.

Its got his art style (he did storyboard for it), and hallucinogenic (he did write it) story that fits nicely from his oeuvre. The other two shorts that make up the anthology film Memories, are pretty great too (like, really great, its my easy pick for best animated anthology film ever), but Magnetic Rose really sings. A psychological sci-fi thriller that packs a shitload of great visuals, a thrilling and creepy story, and ample thematic heft into a short runtime.

Yeah, Kon didn't technically direct it, but try watching it snd telling me his fingerprints aren't all over it.

Watch this.

He also made a small anime series call Paranoia Agent (still looking for the volume 4 DVD for a good price... sniff).

This is a freaking amazing critic of how the society work with media and communication in general .How a small story can became viral. A truly masterpiece !

Satoshi Kon might be one of my favorite directors ever, that is for both live action and animated movies, and I still think its heart breaking he died so young. So much talent and creativity smothered so early. Him and Nujabes felt like two Japanese artists who were always about to become the next big thing and then they died before they had a chance to.

Yes! Magnetic Rose is great. The sountrack for the episode is stellar (no surprises here, Yoko Kanno).

Also: this short. It's one of several one minute clips about the state of japanese animation. It's about this funny inbetween being asleep and awake. And Kons last completed film. :(

Ohayo

also, I love that Perfect Blue ends up being almost a Giallo, or the best film that Brian De Palma never made. But its done with such artistry that one can easily forget its more lurid forebearers.
