LTTP: Persona 3...I said wow.

now atlus if you want to have my money just more.....
either p5 vita asap OR!!!!
after p4:thegolden go with p3fes:theblack :P
p3+answer with p4 combat and full game (p3p was a good game and all, but the cutscenes... :!)..
i'd prefer p5 asap, but if you need to milk more cash out of me, please release a FULL vita p3+fes and have my money!

I prefer the PS2 version as well (FES in particular).
I originally started playing the PSP verion, but it was obvious that it was a huge downgrade despite the interface inprovements and the female character.

Now I'm playing the PS2 version and it's a completly deferent experience. Sure managing my Party's equipment is a pain, my personas are leveling very slowlly, and I can't shop or work at night, but the fact that it actually have graphics and cut scenes makes it for me the superior version.

The anime cutscenes on P3 are simple, and there were few scenes where the character is visible. I believe that If it were to get a Vita version, Atlus (or whoever make them) could easilly mod them to make the fimale protagonist appear in them. Also I considere the original oppening much better. If you have the Fes or the Portable version, you can see it by waiting on the tittle screen or after getting a game over screen.

I'm up to ~Floor 50ish in Tartarus and still loving the game.

I have a question concerning the Social Link system though. Whenever you interact with a Social Link character it will say something like:

"Because you have Jack Frost, of the Magician Arcana, you might get along well with..."

But does having a specific Persona actually influence the interactions with these characters? I thought the only effect Social Links have is the XP bonus after Fusing. Also, does the social link level have any effect in the Persona's performance in battle?

If someone could clear this up for me I would appreciate it!

Having a matching Persona give a bonus to the "points" earned during SL conversations. Like say for example there in the Magicican arcana. Answering option (1) to a question without a Magician Persona would give 10 points. The same answer with a matching Persona will give 15. These are the points that determine whether the SL gains a rank. So as much as possible, take a matching Persona with you.

Edit: Otherwise, no difference in interactions (conversations are still exactly the same with or without) and no, the SL rank doesn't affect a Persona's battle performance.

Ah, I see. Thank you so much. I had a hunch but it really is difficult to determine how these systems work by just playing the game.

I think that's my only gripe with the game so far; it's tough to decipher a lot of the information. For example, when choosing to Fuse a Persona, it will list all the abilities of the new Persona but there is no way to tell what each ability actually does before Fusing.

No problem. And, unless you feel like sitting down and memorizing what everything means, you may just want to keep this link open when fusing:

Any tips for someone who's planning on starting P3 FES? I've not played any P3 game before, and want to start this after finishing a game or 2 in my backlog.
How should i go about leveling up/grinding and gaining 'abilities', etc.?

My advice so far (see my few posts above this) is to just go into the game blind. As far as I have played, the game is easy enough that you can't really "screw" yourself abilities-wise. It's really refreshing to be able to just "play" an RPG without having to acquire a bunch of prior-knowledge beforehand.

One tip I will give you though: Tartarus is randomly generated. I say this because I wasn't aware at first, and thought I had been progressing each time I entered because things seemed different.

Talking about the ending, I feel emotionally it was a home run. From a plot perspective, though, it came from nowhere. I mean, without The Answer how was I supposed to understand
Why the MC died? I mean, I saw it coming. I kind of had an idea why it happened, but the game doesn't even really hint about the outcome before the final battle or the reason it's occurring. Sure, you can kind of suss it out, but it's too abstract.

But, as I said, it's an emotional home run. I can forgive most of my plot problems for as much emotion it brings.

I agree about going in blind. Another bit of advice I'd give would be don't let yourself feel overwhelmed by the number of Social Links and the time management aspect of doing activities to raise stats, leveling SLs, and actually clearing Tartarus.

While it is possible to max every SL on a single playthrough, you would definitely want to ignore that compulsion the first time playing the game. It takes following a fairly strict calendar to accomplish, which just isn't fun. Save that type of a playthrough for a New Game+. Spend your first time through the game doing everything at your own pace, with your own priorities on how to spend time, and focus on the SLs you're really interested in.

Jumped into P3 FES for the first time last night! I beat OG P3 when it came out but never got around to FES. I was going to go with P3P but FES seemed like the right way to go, full party control is nice but with no Answer it seemed like a back step for me.

By the time I'm able to finish this, P4G should be right around the corner :)

Junpei>Yosuke always and forever.

I played P3 after P4 and found the dungeons incredibly boring in comparison. I've seen this debate in every persona thread, but Tartarus is so bland it hurts. Was my biggest and probably only complaint with the game.

No one beats Brosuke at anything. Especially not Stupei.

Both lose to the one and only bro of all bros:

Yosuke's taste in music clearly drops him down the ladder. Again, P4A confirms his lowly status!

Hell, even Chie's loss quote to him in a match says it all.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I lost to YOSUKE! q_q" and yes, you can clearly hear the qq in her voice.

I have tried to play P3P but just can't. While I can appreciate the improvements, after playing FES, the interface on the PSP annoys me.

P4 is an amazing game though. Do that up.

Guys, my FES save on PS3 is corrupted. I was about 25 hours in, the date was 6/24. I'm gonna try and work my way back, but I only get like 45 minutes to play if I'm lucky -_-

Any advice on how to prevent this from happening again? I saved it, entered the velvet room and I had to leave so I turned it off. When I returned it gives me "no data" when I try and load my game.

Or, if someone could upload a save around June I'd greatly appreciate it.

Huh. I'm pretty surprised by the general P4>P3 attitude in this thread. I would have thought the reverse.

I always thought P3 was the better offering and that it was the majority opinion.

Color me surprised.

Love both games though. Enjoy.

Multiple save slots, create backups of your virtual PS2 card regularly, and play CLOSE attention to the messages you see when you attempt to save. If you see anything weird, cancel the save, back out to gameplay, and try again. Though uncommon, I've seen PS2 save issues on PS3 with Yakuza 2, P3, and P4 a few times overall where it looked like the save may go corrupt if I went ahead with it (not more than 5 I'd guess). Also keep in mind that's a combined 200+ hours of gameplay I had amongst all 3 games, to give you a sense of the frequency I saw it.

Really not sure where you would have got that impression from.

I think a lot of people see that P4 is amazing gameplay-wise, but the story, atmosphere, and (most of) the characters are more interesting. At least that's my opinion.

That said, I am so stoked for P4G, after beating P3, P3:FES:A, and P3P:FemShe.

No P4A? It's canon plot that ties together P3 and P4 (and possibly P2)!

Whoa really? I need to get on with the story sections it would seem. Whose story has that part?

It's not really in one individual story. You have to play it to see the P2 references. Story mode requires you play at least five stories to the true ends to get every detail anyhow. =P

Also, I am saddened by a discussion of bros and Eikichi has only been mentioned once.

Ah I see. I'll start plugging away. I have a lot of folks up to their silver endings, just need to finish Labrys's story I guess.

gameplay wise, P4 is better than P3 in almost every way.

As for atmosphere, its really different so it depends on people's taste.

As for the cast, I thought P4 was way better, and it was one of the only JRPGs where I liked every single party members.

P3 was a great game, but P4 is more polished and better game overall in my opinion.

I agree with this for the most part, but even though I agree P4 is better overall, I prefer P3 because of the plot.

Probably my favorite thing about P4 is how there's a lot more events going on between the plot stuff that happens at the beginning and end of months.

I just don't remember much from Persona 3. The father of one of the party members was sort of a bad guy, created a female robot who joined your group, some emo guy died,
Junpei
falls in love with the enemy,
the guy who was your mentor
turns out to be a bad guy, they go to an island where the girls wear
bikinis
, there's a dog.... But, I really don't understand what the ultimate enemy was, I don't remember the social links in detail (other than the old couple with their
dead kid/tree
, and the fat kid who
ate his twin brother in the womb or something
.

I feel like if I type it out like this, I remember more than I initially thought, but I still don't recall many details. I dunno.
