Lttp Quake 4 360 pre-appreciation thread

I have not played this game, nor do I remember playing the demo, and I have never read any reviews on it, or paid any attention to it to my knowledge. But since it was given to me for free, I'm willing to give to it for free, an "AwEsome" (rating scales from "Lame" to "SPAZZtacular")

Now to insert the disk...

Someone is whoring for achievements...

I did play the demo, I thought it was pretty good from what I remember.

I bought it and barely played it. I enjoyed Quake 2 much more for some reason.

for some reason?! Quake4 is garbage and not developed by id. It was Ravensoft who made it.

I suggest not playing this game in any resolution higher than 480p. The game's framerate is really spotty and any increase in resolution just worsens that problem...

and also, Quake II > Quake 4.

I enjoyed this more than FEAR(released same month...on PC).

Neat popcorn shooter with brilliant visuals. Dunno about the 360 port.

Ah. Is id making Quake Wars though?
No splash damage is. They made quake 3 fortress(mod) and enemy terriroty(was supposed to be the multiplayer part of an RTCW xpack but the pack was canned and this was made free and beloved by many)

iD has been doing the patches for online Q4 as far as I know though.

As far as quake 4, Quake 2 in the box is a better game. Multiplayer is the saving part of q4 even though it isn't great and on xbox that wouldn't even work right.

If you like still breathing humans chopped up and attached to machines this is definitely your game.

There are also a handful of pretty decent scripted sequences.
It's also one of the cheapest 360 games...but since you got it for free I guess it doesn't matter.

The core gameplay was decent enough, the framerate/port job was craptastic. Also, some of the levels were less-than-enjoyable. Some especially grating moments went as follows:

Going through dark-as-shit corridors with marines, blasting baddies, generally having fun. Get to a certain section, then marines say "lol we'll kick it here, but you alone must venture forth into the dark and turn a switch on or bring back some piece of shit." I then gotta go through more dark-as-shit corridors, this time alone, where of course there are typical monster-closet ambushes waiting for me. NO FUN.

Quake 2 was a great little bonus, but the controls were not as tight or smooth as Quake IV's (WTF, for shit's sake?), so it killed any fun I could've gotten from it (kinda like PDZ, another 360 launch 360 shooter I was playing at the time).

Yeah, I still have to finish this game :lol

Its decent from time to time, but this 2005 FPS definitely has aged in just 2 years (and F.E.A.R. as well).
