LTTP: Stargate Franchise - Indeed

SG1 also had way more enjoyable characters. Everyone outside of that asshole doctor sucked ass in SGU (S1).

SG1 definitely had a spirit of adventure to it, even through its rough patches. SGU was much darker and oft times depressing, which is certainly not intrinsically bad, but was a very big departure from the other two 'Gate series.

Definitely gets better after Season 1. Also, I thought Season 8 was great, especially the last 5 or so episodes. THAT was a great Series Finale (except they kept going for two more seasons).

Ba'al is by far the best villain on the show IMO. I loved that guy. I think the South African accent may be my favourite accent in the world...

I think Rush from SGU has my favourite accent in the whole world. Love that guy, and love his voice.

Prisoner
What a nice old lady. Sure the fact that she's somehow in charge of this group of prisoners isn't ominous at all.

Well, she let everyone live. That's nice of her.

Liked this episode. Nice foreshadowing with the old lady.

30 seconds into Gamekeeper
Epcot!
Broccoli!

I've made jokes about these episodes being like Star Trek, but this really is a knock off of "The Thaw"

Broccoli!

Nope, not Epcot, it's the Bloedel Conservatory, in Vancouver's beautiful Queen Elizabeth Park. It's a controlled environment, filled with tropical plants and birds and fish.

I gave up on SGU half way through, did it ever have a true ending or did the cancellation leave it on a cliffhanger? Answers in spoilers may be the safest bet.

I liked the vast majority of SG-1, even the final two seasons although it was probably a bit too much change in one go, wasn't helped by the fact that I truly despised Landry.

Cliffhanger.

If you want the details

Everyone must go into stasis for 3 years until they reach the next galaxy except for Eli who must stay awake to bring them out of it.

Edit - Beaten!

But simple answer below:

Very much cliffhanger.

Details:

Been awhile since I watched the episode, but they all go into stasis except for 1 or 2 people, who I believe were screwed themselves (stasis people would be fine) unless they figured out something in a relatively short time. Situation was sort of similar to a couple of Star Trek episodes - "One" from Voyager for example. I think they were leaving one galaxy and headed to another with no gates in between, so there wasn't going to be enough food/water/oxygen/etc. for everyone to survive unless they went into stasis.

But don't quote me on the details, it's been awhile since I've watched the episode.

I posted reactions just last night.

Anyways, have seen more.

Need
I didn't like this one. The whole concept was a bit silly, and Michael Shanks actor was laughably bad as tripped out Jackson.

Thor's Chariot
Pretty good episode, though I fear that the new pre-packaged alien deus ex machina could be overused down the road.

Message in a Bottle
Middle of the road on this one. The concept was nice, but it felt like a rehash of far too many other sci fi episodes.

pretty much, yeah.

Eli was the only one not in stasis, and had something like a week or 2, to figure out how to fix one more stasis pod for himself, or else he'd die. It was a 3 year stasis trip.

Probably one of the few, but SG-U >>> the other stargates. Liked it's darker tone more than the standard sci-fi chuckle drama of SG-1.

Watching Family

Man these guards are idiots. Guard the gate by standing right in front of it then stare at the smoke bombs...

Bra'tac's going to die at some point, and I'm going to be sad...

So not about SG-1 specifically, but related:

I just started watching Continuum (good show - will make a thread soonish) and Stargate fans especially will get a kick out of it. So many Stargate (read: Vancouver) actors in it. I keep checking IMDB every time I do a double take and bam - another Stargate actor. Cameos by other people that have been in Eureka, Fringe, etc.

Anyway - definitely check it out if you haven't. First season on Netflix, second premiering in the US in June I believe.

Don't worry, it is avoided pretty well in most cases. Won't say more, good stuff next season.

Love SG-1 seasons 2-8. The show had a great sense of camaraderie and fun, and I love how it actually progressed forward ever so slowly. I'm watching season 9 for the first time now and I already hate Browder and the latest enemy with their yawn-inducing dialogue.

It dips but picks up again IMO. Always worth watching. Chemistry between valla and Daniel is great

Browder gets better, Ori do not. Claudia Black is great, if sometimes a bit too irritating to enjoy.

Nice to hear some things pick up on 9 and 10. I've decided to watch it to the end but found myself fast forwarding some boring sounding episodes based on netflix ep descriptions (secret jaffa planet with super warrior duels... gawd). Are there any non-missable eps that might appear the other way?

Never understood skipping episodes, sure some might not be great but your still missing out.

Browder hate?!? Now I've seen everything.

This show was my childhood. My parents were addicted to it and they passed it to me. We would all gather around to watch it. Ill admit I shed a tear when the show ended.

Best show ever. Right Teal'c?

I saw it less as him trying to fill a hole left by RDA, and more as, "Holy Shit that's Crichton from Farscape! Doing more sci-fi television!"

Maybe it's because I haven't watched more than 2 eps of Farscape then. The way I see Browder is that he's filling certain roles RDA used to, the military guy and the 'guy who says dumb stuff and does dumb things'.

The people who dislike Browder, did you watch Farscape before? I never had watched it and like him.

I find people who dislike him, watched Farscape first and were expecting Crichton.

I had breakfast with Ben Browder once, so I may be biased.

Since the show format didn't change, he did end up being cast as O'Neill 2.0. Well really, it's O'Neill 3.0 since 2.0 was John Shepard over on Atlantis. None of them are stupid although they often played the Watson, having other characters explain the science of the week to them so the audience knows about it. They were all fairly cocky and self assured, liked to wisecrack, and they were the team leaders.

I liked him in both! Also: you lucky SOB, did your breakfast taste like awesome?

Only a couple episodes when I bumped into it on accident on TV. He was just a poor imitation of Jack - though he did have his moments.
