Memento
Oh hey Robert Foxworth. Wonder what type of villain he'll be playing now. Then he ends up being a good guy. Nice episode, even if a bit cliche with the whole "Progressive leader vs. uptight military commander" thing.

Prophecy
Thought they were going to off Quinn. Was let down. Neat episode otherwise with all the future telling.

Well spank me, Rosie.

Good cliffhanger. Must have sucked for you who watched it when it was airing. Feel silly for not guessing that Anubis was an ancient/other, seems so obvious. Anubis seems like he's going to be a great villain.

Assuming this "lost city" is spin off building.

Onto season 7.

HEY! The Amazon picture for season 7 has Jackson back!

...and Teal'c with one goofy smile...

Yeah, Anubis is a pretty cool villain. Cliffhanger would have been terrible, luckily I watched them on disc, but that box cover is silly.

I was sooooooooooo excited for that game back in the day. I was pissed when it got cancelled. It probably wouldn't have been fantastic or anything, but a Stargate game is a Stargate game. They don't come along often. It looked decent, and back then I had really low standards.

Oh and Jonas was awesome. I liked him and I
was not happy when they just got rid of him when Daniel came back in season 7. Is it weird that I was more upset about Jonas leaving than I was when Daniel "died"?

Didn't see this at the time. If it makes you feel better (which I imagine it won't), the game is fairly fun, as incomplete as it is. It wouldn't have lit the world on fire, but it would have been a competent shooter, and many times better than the IOS/Android game. Heck, it even has real Hammond.

The fact that we will never get a SG game with real Hammond is something that wounds me on a very deep level.

I do want a good SG game still, but I don't know what genre. I think a "shooter/adventure", i that makes sense. Deep negotiation and dialogue mechanics with a strong 3PS tactical shooter foundation (something like a ghost recon or rainbow six, but maybe more like the older ones than the modern ones). Probably prefer to play a non-SG1 team, though, if only so that they could do interesting things with characters and have some new adventures.

So, season 7, what was good?

Fallen and Homecoming to wrap up the cliffhanger. Fragile Balance is fun, Revisions, Lifeboat, Enemy Mine are all pretty solid. Avenger 2.0 is fantastic, I think, ridiculous and tense (well, as tense as SG1 can be) at the same time. Evolution and Heroes are pretty good too. Inauguration... hell, the whole damn season is pretty good.

Yeah, it's tough. So much of the appeal is the characters rather than the setting. A game with SG1 would either be a rehash or a bit meaningless, neither of which interest me. And yeah, the genre question is tricky too. A straight shooter would be a waste of the IP, but anything that did it justice is going to take some pretty clever design and planning. Most outcomes would probably be cinematics to take care of the non shooty bits, and that would utterly miss the point to me.

I remember being at the E3 when they showed this. Not being into the show, I didn't care, but I'm pretty sure RDA was there (maybe others) and I now regret not meeting them.

The issue is that, while Stargate was relatively big, it was never Star Wars or Star Trek, so it would never get the budget that those titles could. And heck, look at all the bad SW and ST games, large budgets or not.

That's why we have to make a pact that if any of us become super rich, we'll throw up the funding for it.

I always thought an action-RPG similar in design to something like Mass Effect/FF12 might be a good fit for the property. Being both an MMO and Stargate nerd, I was actually looking forward to the MMO before it was cancelled, though I'm sure it would've been a massive disappointment were it have ever released.

The MMO is a strange one. Read up on what they were doing with the Furlings :P

And Im not convinced that Mass Effect is the right choice either. Stargate isn't the type of game that lends itself to too many choices, be it inventory or story, at least not the extremes that Bioware has done at times. Although I guess it would be interesting to see how far you could go, veering from SG-1 to joining the Goauld.

It's sad, looking again at the models, how much better they are in the Alliance than the current game. Sure, they aren't perfect, especially Sam (in both games Sam seems to be an issue), but you would think in 7 years they could figure out how to model SG-1.

SG is gunfight heavy, but ME's leveling is mostly focused around powers (unless you want terribad stat-based aiming like the first) which don't make much sense in the context of the SGC, at all. You can "gamify" the SG franchise probably, but I don't think it's a smooth fit.

SG-1 should be like Zelda. Exploring various planet environments, and temples. Collecting artifacts that give you like abilities or whatever and solving puzzles. It would be amazing. I would buy 10 copies.

I still say that the easiest to make without screwing it up Stargate game would be an XCOM ripoff. Fits perfectly with that kind of game.

Not that other genres wouldn't work and be good, but the franchise most easily transfers to that kind of format.

Considering Independence Day 2 was confirmed... We may actually get our stargate 2 movie!

I know... Different universe but same starting point... But I want to see what the original trilogy was supposed to be.

Fallen/Homecoming
Quinn's gone! A good set of episodes. I could have done without the Jackson amnesia thing, because it really had no place it part 2 as he remembers everything he needs to. Maybe it will be a bigger thing later, but it still seems like a silly addition. Ba'al returns in full awesome smugness, and of course, Anubis escapes to be super-evil another day.

Time for bed I think.

"Lost City" is leagues ahead of "Window of Opportunity."
Lost City is a fantastic pair of episodes, I agree. Window if Opportunity is better than either single episode on its own, imo. If there has been a bit more... urgency? danger? to that last confrontation in the chair room it might have helped. Especially with Heros doing what it did, some at least attempt at "omg what might have just happened" during the fight would have gone a long way. Although, I can understand then not wanting to overshadow Jack at the end. (Sorry for being vague, trying to be non spoilery.)

Lost City is one episode. As for the "confrontation" in the chair room, there's so much stuff going on around it that's it's one piece in the whole episode. The whole episode wasn't building to that kind of confrontation.

Lost City >>>>>>> Window of Opportunity. It has everything you could want in an SG1 episode. It's SG1 distilled into a single episode.

Huh, going to have to check my dvds when I get home. For some reason I thought it was a 2 parter.
One part with the download and going to get the ZPM, the other with bringing it back and the Chair Room / Hammond on Prometheus fight.

And I agree that it is serious SG1 in a single ep.

Window of Opportunity is comedy SG1 in a single ep.

Fragile Balance
Few off scenes, but credit where it's due. That kid did a pretty good job playing Young O'Neill.

Did this episode technically end on a pedophile joke?

You know what I like about SG1?

It's that Earth keeps getting better and better tech and by the end of the series it's one of the most powerfull planets out there.

Space ship Asgard shields and those godly powerfull Asgard beam weapons which can take out even Ancient ships.
That defence chair in Antarctica.
Atlantis back on Earth with all its weapons and tech.
And probably a bunch of other stuff I can't remember.

That's one of the negative things about the show for me. By the end they made Earth waaaaaaay too powerful.

The ludicrous pace of technological adaptation and advancement in SG1 is one of the reasons it gets compared to X-Com. In under a year (usually), the X-Com project goes from "omg aliens are attacking!" to "we have a natively constructed spaceship made using UFO tech and doomtroopers in super flying power armor suits firing plasma guns and are launching an attack on the Alien homeworld."

Well, old X-Com at least :D

It's all super unrealistic, but I have to say that seeing
the underdog Tau'ri build warships gave me a pretty exhilarating feeling. And when we got given the asgard tech and became a real power, it felt pretty great too.

It's actually "best Stargate episode ever" building.

S7 is best season. And Enemy Mine is better than "pretty solid." I oughta slap you.
Sorry ma'am, Enemy mine is better than solid, but it is not perfect.

Lost City is pretty damned amazing, but if I had to pick between the two as most quintessential episode I don't think I could. One is funny SG1, the other is serious SG1.

Fropm memory, yes it did. A fun episode in spite of that. Young O'Neill was a bit grating at first, but yeah, overall the kid did a pretty good job.

That's my job.
Sorry boss. :)
Yeah, well, your face is better than solid but even it isn't perfect!

Hah!

Which reminds me, Dead Man, you're required to report in to the Post Pics of Yourself thread at some stage.

Yeah, Dead Man! I wanna see your mug!

BeardGAF and GayGAF already have pictures of me, I don't want to damage the visual appeal of the site any more than that.
