LTTP: Stargate Franchise - Indeed

Shipping in Stargate always felt out of place or unnecessary. Really not the focus of the show.
Gonna have to go over your head on this one, DeafMutes. All the Sci-fi mumbo jumbo and hardware are great, but some things in the mix appeal to some demographics more than others.

Another interesting thing to note about SGA (inconsistencies?):

The Genii guns and the Satedan guns are the same. Not sure if lazy about props or there was some trade going on there or what. But Ronon's sidearm is completely different, being an energy weapon, whereas the other guns are conventional ballistics. Forget if they explained why that was at some point, if he picked it up on his travels or something else.

iirc from the episode in which they went back to Sateda, they were using ballistic weapons against the wraith. There was one episode where there found people with energy weapons of the same design as ronon's, the civilization that was living out of their ships. I'm just on the first season of Atlantis now after not watching it since it first aired, I may be completely wrong.

No they're not.

I have however seen the Genii guns in a couple of other scifi shows.

That's not what I'm referring to when I say they're the same. It's the shotgun-type model. As seen in S3-4 and by at least one guard in S3-7. They're definitely shown in other episodes, but I know for sure those two have them in the referenced context.
The Genii have a variety of weapon models, but the shotguns (also a rifle?)always stood out. Pistols pretty unique too, though the SMGs started to look a little silly.

What he meant was,
Genii guns and Satedan guns were the same. Or at least similar. This makes sense, because the Wraith would regularly allow civilizations to grow and then knock them back down. Genii and Sateda were about as advanced as you could get under that system. Also, they might have had Gate contact with each other at some point.

Ronon's gun was different, and was not a Satedan weapon. He picked it up at some point while the Wraith were hunting him for sport. It's possible that the Wraith themselves even gave it to him to make things more interesting.

When Sheppard met a group of humans living in space on a former Ancient ship, he noticed that they were carrying guns like Ronan's. But that still doesn't really say where the guns came from.

Now I feel stupid.

Not a bad deal but SO MANY DISCS. Just think of all the swapping you'd have to do to get through the series. That's what you get for it being DVD only I guess.

Whenever I watch I just stream on Amazon (or Netflix if I'm currently subscribed.)

A few months ago I ripped the entire series to M4V files and edited the metadata for every episode. Now I can just pull up anything I want on my Apple TV. This series was the one I have been putting off for years because of how many seasons there were. The only other show that was as much of a chore was Babylon 5 because of the interlacing issues with random episodes.

Lockdown was stupid

Teal'c: Don't move, you might still be Anubis
Carter: Trust me, I'm not anymore. He left me
Teal'c: Okay

Not to mention Carter beat up a couple people to get there and also somehow aborted a self destruct by herself, something that shouldn't have been possible. It has always required two passwords.

SG1 - Icon
I thought this was going to be a Stargate version of Misery at first. Was a little disappointed it wasn't. Alright episode, but nothing spectacular. Was very by the numbers.

Atlantis - Suspicions
Finally, something happened! Good episode, nice build up, I can now remember Ford's name...

SG1 - Avatar
This is going to be a Holodeck episode, isn't it....

Atlantis - Childhood's End
Good episode considering the premise and tons of cold actors. I'm also warming up to McKay. SG1 McKay that is. I don't know what it is, but he seems just so whiny in Atlantis...

SG1 - Affinity
Teal'c dishing out street justice?
Teal'c getting his groove back?
Teal'c threatening to kill a guy beating up his girlfriend?
How will this awesome episode end!

Nice set up with Affinity. Look forward to the payoff.

Teal'c living near one of Colorado Springs many large lakes I see (yes, it still bugs me).

I do have one beef with the episode though. I'm disappointed that Teal'c went back to the SGC. We only got one episode about him living off base. While I know the heroes home life is not the focus at all of this show, it seems like something they should have never bothered with if they were just going to let Teal'c do it once then have him move back.

Correction, Teal'c threatening to kill Lois Lane's abusive boyfriend.

That can only mean one thing. Teal'c threatening to kill Asshole Superman.

Unfortunately the Amazon stream is all 4:3 aspect ratio until it switches over to HD in Season 7 or 8.

I like Colorado, based on the one week or so I spend there.

But really, the whole travelling between planets does really give it an edge over other places in the US.

Okay why doesn't the alpha site have a iris? Oh and why isn't the iris on earth always closed unless an IDC is entered? Its always a rush to close it during an unscheduled offworld activation.

Atlantis - Poisoning The Well
Interesting episode. I'm going to miss Steve. I do hope these people don't become another one of those aliens that's set up, and never mentioned again.

Okay why doesn't the alpha site have a iris?
Security through obscurity. The Goauld don't know the Alpha Site exists, or where it is, while the Earth's own stargate is under near-constant attack. If they've got time to build an iris for the Alpha Gate, then they've got time to build other things for the Alpha Site, like indoor plumbing.

Oh and why isn't the iris on earth always closed unless an IDC is entered? Its always a rush to close it during an unscheduled offworld activation.

It's apparently the direction they decided on for "fail safe".

On the one hand, "iris failure" can mean that the gate is open, and invaders can enter.
On the other hand, "iris failure" can mean that the gate is closed, and SG teams get killed.

It's a matter of how they define "safe". And Stargate Command will usually allow the planet Earth to be put at risk before they allow their own soldiers to get hurt.

SG1 - Covenant
Another "Will the world find out!?" episode, and at this point i'm tired of that story, and would much rather a story where they do come out with the truth.

Don't recall for sure, but I think they're at least mentioned in passing, if not as an entire subplot in a later episode. Must be S4 or S5 I think since I just started rewatching S4 and unless I skipped that episode somewhere in S2 or S3...

Without looking it up.

Some of these things I'm not sure I should spoiler, but I do it anyway just to be safe.

Forester is gonna have to comb back through all the thread once he's done with the franchise to see what he missed though :P

I thought the iris could be destroyed by the opening wormhole, causing a brief expansion of air into it. So it wouldn't be safe or retain integrity if it was always closed. There was that episode where the buried gate on a world hit by a meteor stranded Jack that one time.

Indeed that

Indeed that

The "kawoosh" can completely destroy anything in it's path, including carving a big cavern into solid rock (which can then be filled with air from the other side of the wormhole), but a properly buried gate (or an iris, or a forcefield) prevents a kawoosh from forming in the first place.

I think how it works is:

A) Something is inside the event horizon: Wormhole will not connect

B) Something is just barely outside the event horizon(like an iris): Wormhole will open without the unstable vortex

C) Any amount of space greater then the unspecified distance in B: Unstable vortex is going to fuck up anything in it's path

I've just made it to Prometheus Unbounded. I wonder if I will hate
Vala
as much as I did the first time around.

Edit: Wow, she gets Zatted twice in this episode. Length of time between Zattings is indeterminate however.

Edit:
Does Wayne Brady have to choke a shova?

Just rewatched SG-1's "Gemini". Ugh, what a terrible episode, and once again highlights why McKay was right.
Once again, Carter's wild recklessness ends up creating a far greater problem, and just like always, she is not held responsible for her actions, despite she herself admitting it was her fault.
Sometimes I think she's worse than Jonas Quinn.
