LTTP: Supernatural. THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD

Can't wait. There's been a bit too many monster of the week-episodes this season and there's not that many episodes left in this season.

Just watched like 5 episodes back to back. Trying to catch up to season 5 before its over. Just finished the Siren episode in season 4.

Hate watching this at night, not because I get scared but because my door is directly behind me and people walk in unexpectedly. :lol

I initially rejected this show as I thought it was a teeny bopper attempt at an X Files, and it kinda still is, but it does have quality production values to it and it has likeable characters. It is nice to see b-horror stories getting some nice treatment. I have come to really enjoy the show. Im mid season 4 right now on dvd. It was also the last working job for the late great Kim Manners so it cant be all that bad if he was working on it.

Teeny bopper? Not at all, it's just on The CW.

Sure it is, pretty much every character cast is some hot young babe to counter the studly 2 leads. Show also forgoes any sense of logic and just presents the crazy upfront. But i think a lot of its charm comes from that.

Absolutely. First season is good. Second and third seasons are great. Fourth and fifth are amazing.

All shows put good looking people in it.

That has nothing to do with being "teeny bopper".

About halfway through the first season it picks up, then just takes right off during the finale. Season 2 and especially 4 being the best. Although, 5 is very good so far too.

Yeah. Ted Raimi is studly and hot. The show is not teeny bopper at all. It aims more at twenty to thirty somethings in my opinion, not the teen set like most other CW shows. Just look at the soundtrack alone for proof.

Trust me, you'll definitely start caring more about Sam and Dean's Mom/Dad and it just starts rolling up more and more awesomeness from there, but you have to get through the MOTW episodes, which are usually fun too.

I actually prefer the standalone episodes. Or at least they are the most rewatchable ones.

I am starting the show not that its on Netflix. I've finally found a show that seems interesting AND is actually still airing AND has more than 1 season. I've only seen one episode of the show and I can't recall which season it was from but it involved some dark haired woman who was sort of a thief? I think she was the love interest/supporting character for the season. But anywho, I have 126 hours of this show to watch and since the boyfriend is out of town for two weeks I will have plenty of time to watch uninterrupted.

Jensen Ackles is pretty dreamy. He has lady eyes though its also probably due to makeup job too. His brother is a little too frumpy in a Jonathan Taylor Thomas kind of way so I'm hoping he gets a makeover at some point.

Both characters are awesome, but Sam goes through some bad arcs. But regardless this show is amazing and just dips slightly in the second season and then after the 5th but is still so enjoyable. Glad to have another watcher.

Halfway of Season 3 and start of Season 4 where shit gets real.

Angels.

I love this show so much, but I have mixed feelings about "the big plotline". Once it really kicks into gear the show seems to lose a bit of identity alternating between fun monster of the week and good serial drama.

Halfway through catching up on Season 5 and I'm definitely liking it more then season 4. Season 4 felt really repetitive in the final third.

Season 4 spread the love rather evenly with the good episodes. Season 5 has a few good ones here and there, but keeps all the "OMFG this is awesome!" stuff for right at the end. The final run of episodes in 5 is just so damn good. Especially the final 2.

I just finished Season 1 and I'm really disappointed in this demon that killed their parents. It doesn't seem threatening at all. I'm sad to see Meg go but she served her purpose and we're moving on which is good. I enjoy the plots of the Monster of the Week episodes but they really could stand to jazz up their dialogue. Its typically pretty boring exchanges between Sam and Dean when they aren't directly discussing the crisis at hand.

I'm hoping things get better in Season 2 since most Season 1s of TV shows are pretty crappy. Maybe a higher budget now and maybe a tendency not to play their cards so conservatively. Anyone able to tell me if they improve their writing in seasons to come or do we just maintain this level for the rest of the show? I'll still watch either way unless things get really shitty, like Heroes shitty.

it kicks up in season 2. introduces a few characters that become major to the story as well.

I was really into this like a year ago or so. I mean, watching every episode every week.

But I just can't...I mean, seriously. After
that fallen angel shit, and the high ranking demons, and fuck all angels, I just couldn't deal anymore and bailed.
.

Don't really regret it either.

I need to continue watching this show, I stopped mid-way through the second season. Since, it's on Netflix, I have fewer excuses to not watch this show.

Fuck yea Supernatural. I'm mostly okay with the main plot eps (seen seasons 1-4 only so far), but the funny ones...are definitely god-teir funny. Especially Sam's bad luck, Dean scared of everything, and Monster movie.

"Well, there's something you don't know about me. Today's my lucky day."

*proceeds to throw a pencil into the barrel of an assailant's gun knocks the other out with a remote*

"I'm Batmaaan."

"Yeah, Dean. You're Batman."

---

"This pizza...does it have garlic?"

"I don't know. Did you order garlic?"

"Hisss, nooooo."

I actually laughed in the second episode of S2. Its like someone figured out its okay to write humor into the show.

*Dean, Sam and Carnival guy walk into the trailer, two seats are available - one regular and one shaped like a clown*

*Dean and Sam exchange a look, Dean makes it to the normal chair first*

*Sam sits on the edge of the clown chair the whole scene*

The fact they referenced Dean's phobia of flying and acknowledging continuity helped elevate the episode. So I'm 5 episodes into S2 and its noticeably improved over S1. Will report back once I finish S2.

I fucking loved the first few seasons. I was pretty let down by season five. I am not one to complain about plot holes as I can usually look past them. But, holy shit are there some major plot holes with season five, and acknowledging it at the end pissed me off even more. Letting me know you know it's filled with holes doesn't make it okay. Not to mention how lame the final episode was with all it's callbacks to plot devices they just introduced at the start of the episode. All of that history with the car and eveything should have been sprinkled throughout the last season, or the last two or three episodes. Trying to throw all that sentimentality into the last episode was just cheap feeling.

Haven't seen the last two seasons. One of these days I'll catch up, but I haven't really liked what I've heard about them.

EDIT: Wait. This thread is two years old? Oh well, got my rant about season five out of my system.

Hey thanks for thread... I think I watched up to episode 7 and gave up. It was fine but I didn't think it was worth my time to continue. If it gets oodles better I'll definitely stick with it.

Good fun show. Reminds me of some good old sessions of Hunter RPG we used to play, which had us going around hunting supernatural shit and as gamers we always were cracking the jokes.

haha, i just started Season 3 and its much improved. That rabbit foot episode was pretty damn funny. They must have got some new writers or realized they could vary their formula a little and do some comedy stories once in awhile.

Also, Sam knocking himself out with the air conditioner and drapes was pretty funny. Both of these guys do comedy pretty well. They have good comedic timing without it being false or hokey.

The "joke" episode in season 6 was just ludicrous. In an awesome and hilarious way. All their humour episodes are among my favourites.

Katie Cassidy just seemed like a poseur to me. I just never really bought the "hard-edge" to her character. It felt like a lil girl trying to act like a big girl. She was the hotter of the two Ruby's though. Ruby 2 is annoying in her own ways. She just seems like a snotty brat half the time. The character itself is fine, its how the actresses portray her that annoys me.
Just think of her as a delicious Coke.

As for the Teddy bear, half the fun of that episode is the build up to the reveal of the bear. The big foot (hah!) prints in the woods, the trashed liquor store, the stolen porno mags, and they all lead to the little girl taking them for the bear. That episode is more proof that Ben Edlund is the funniest writer on that show. (And hell, that episode had Ted Raimi as well!)

It's Bigfoot, and he's a son of a bitch!

Season 1 and Season 2 were the bomb awesome with fantastic setting that just made the show and the overarching storyline was teh win.

Season 3 was good but not season 1/2 greatness. I attended Comic-con panel for upcoming season 3 I was sooo hyped. Ruby was the absolute hawtness! To die for.

Seasons 4,5,6 were just cashing in. The show jumped the rails and the characters became far to powerful. It lost its edge. Still had some good episodes but the general storyline was the fail compared to seasons 1/2

Ruby manages to be super hot, three dimensional and kind of menacing in spite of it all. Bella is also a fine mix of femme fatale and chaotic good character (did I use that term right D&Ders?!). Someone tell me we get through all this daddy angst soon. I don't think I can take another "Look, bro..." talk about dad. Lets deal with it finally now that
he went to Heaven or his soul escaped hell or whatever.

Also, another question about the inhuman things in Supernatural world. We have all these demons and spirits and agents for evil but we've not seen any forces for good beyond the human hunters. Are there good supernatural things in this show?
someone mentioned angels so that got spoiled. but do they actually DO anything?

yeah, angels get heavily involved but they're not universally forces for "good". There are a few who are more concerned with "getting the job done" then human life

They've featured two cities in Indiana I've been. I used to work in Cicero, IN which has maybe one stop light and a bunch of farming just outside Indianapolis. And New Harmony which was developed by a socialist who attempted to construct a utopian society back in the early 1800s which could have made for a neat ghost story :(

I wonder where they film these episodes. It can't be California because you never see any mountains or desert in exterior shots so its either got to be Canada or New York.

Figured I'd just bump this thread since the last post wasn't that long ago, but man this show is fucking good.

Season 1, I didn't enjoy that much, I thought it was decent, but from 2-4(currently on 4) it's just getting better and better. From season 2 and on, there were more references, talk between Sam and Dean became funnier, just everything improved so much it's crazy.

Also fucking :lol at dean
him coming back to life and saying he's a virgin again

yeah well they are not technically "evil" but more like "jerks"

Just made it all the way up to "The French Mistake", Season 6.

Goddam I love all the "funny" episodes. Though Misha's
backalley stabbing
was pretty frowny-face :(

Just watched All Hell Breaks Loose Part I from the Supernatural Anime, that was included on the Season 6 DVD. Yeah...I dunno what to say.

First, despite Jared and Jensen reprising their roles, their dialogue still comes out as awkward and stilted, due to trying to sync with the animation. Dean complains about onions on burgers, and I want to kill myself one minute in.

Second, they tried to compress all of the plot beats of a 40-minute show into 20 minutes, detrimental to any semblance of suspense or mystery. In the original show's counterpart episode, there was a lot of buildup when Sam wakes up in the ghost town, trying to figure where the hell he is and what's going on, to where he actually meets the other contestants. In the anime, Sam just wakes up surrounded by the contestants three minutes into the episode and they just blurt out "lolz we have powerz".

Sam's flashback/dream ride on top of a giant eyeball was pretty cool, though, I'll give them that.

Last, what the FUCK did they do to Bobby?

bobby-anime-e13124923ooutq.png

Seriously, what the FUCK were they thinking? I'd forgive them if they did this just based on Season 1, if they thought Bobby wasn't going to be very important later on, but the anime seems to cover all the way up to the Season 2 finale, so...I don't know what the excuse for this redesign is...:/

I'm going to watch part 2 eventually but...I'm gonna need a stronger drink first.
