LTTP: Tales of Vesperia

I wish I could be LTTP for Vesperia one day. :(

No 360 here.

The only Tales game I've beaten was Symphonia and I never did get far into Abyss for some reason.

Ahhhh just looked at some footage on youtube.

Christmas break, no classes, and a hell of a lot of time. I'll go back

Something to be said about the art style and beyond that, the beautiful world, that's a great switch up from these brutal violent "bro" games i've been playing recently.

Well, you could always import a JP PS3 copy if you could read Japanese or don't mind having a guide in your hand the entire way through.

Gotta 360 last year and when I played this game it blew me away. It felt like I was finally back in the ps2 days of great RPGs then I beat it and nothing has been great again. Hopefully I like Xillia and Ni No Kuni.

Honestly I feel the same way. I've played and liked a decent amount of JRPGs this gen, but Vesperia was the only one I truly loved. It's sad that my favorite came so early in the generation. Nothing has come close since. Hoping the same as you, that I really like/love Ni No Kuni and Xillia. I especially hope Xillia pleases me more than Hearts and Graces. Tales post Vesperia has been a lot worse IMO.

Worse post-Vesperia, or maybe Vesperia was so good it was like tasting Ambrosia and not being able to go back to mere mortal food?

I haven't been following Ni No Kuni very closely, it doesn't really interest me that much because the combat looks too slow.

Yeah, I'm not really interested in NNK either, mostly due to it being a Level5 game. It looks pretty, but I doubt there's much chance of the gameplay quality matching the visual quality.

I feel like Level 5's been in a slump lately. They can't seem to get a hit after DQ9, both critically or commercially. Well, besides Layton and Inazuma 11.

On the other hand, Bravely Default looks like the tops and I'd get it if it were to be translated.

Probably the latter, but Graces being worse in every aspect except combat was disheartening. Vesperia just set the bar too high I suppose.

As for NNK, I've heard a lot of great things that it fares a lot better than most Level-5 games, so here's hoping.

That's not really saying much. :/

Oh my god this Gattosu-thing is a hard as hell boss ):

Gattasu is a difficulty spike. No other boss presents more of a relative challenge than him, I'd advise grinding or toning down the difficulty just for him.

I do a one sitting playthrough of this game with two friends every year. Every year after it's done I wonder why I do it.

I don't think this is worth a new thread, so I guess I'll post it in here. Baba has made similar statements to these before.

GameZone interviews Hideo Baba

Really the main quotes are;

"I want to continue to release as many [Tales of] titles as I can in the States from now on, so more and more users can enjoy the series."

and

"It's very challenging to release the old titles, especially to translate ones which weren't already released in the States. Ideally, I want to bring the old titles to the West in some form, so that American users can enjoy them. But, it's very challenging. We'll take it step by step." (on remakes/ports)

Oh there's new Xillia english pics today

Wrong thread? Or are you promoting Tales. lol.

?

This thread kinda became the most recent Tales discussion thread so I posted it here. I then saw the new Xillia shots and posted there. I don't see how that's so weird.

I was just wondering if you accidentally got the two threads mixed up. lol. Apologies.

Really great game overall but I can't bring myself to replay it knowing that so much was actually cut and not just added for the PS3 version.

Its not the content itself, but more the fact that Flynn and Patty are almost complete and sitting on the disc. The real kick in the teeth is the lack of full VA since the characters were so lickable and I felt like I was getting an incomplete picture of them.

Patty feels like a superfluous addition to me, and I never played the 360 version. She is fun to use, but narrative-wise, she isn't essential to the story. Her story was pretty self-contained.

Ive heard that about Patty, but given how much of a role each character plays, its a surprise. As for Flynn, hes like the guy that brings a sense of respect and cool to the scenes hes in so again its not a big loss. All the other additions are extras to an already packed game. However, the lack of VA made going for the optional scenes feel like tasters to the full course. Its not that i need VA to enjoy dialogue but more that i was reminded that im not getting a complete script.

Ohhh man. Good game, but i still haven't finished it. Got it at launch in 2008.

I feel horrible.

Maybe I'm just not a huge JRPG guy, but i can't consistently keep coming back to it. This winter break i might put it in for a spin.

It's just so much work to refresh yourself with the story, and the mechanics, and it's so long! I'm 20 hours in! And that's not even like, halfway!

But of any console RPG to come back to it would be this one for me. Combat is good, art and graphics are beautiful story is decent, characters are pretty engaging.

I just don't know how you guys complete these massive JRPG's that take 50+ hours.

I pace myself... it'll take me 3+ months to complete a game but it feels satisfying! Plus it's a good way to save money on new games (doesn't hurt that RPGs are really the only long/involving game genre I'm really into).

I'm not sure what my favorite Tales game is, but it may be Vesperia. If only because I liked the characters the best... <3 Rita <3

Tri-ace used to be cool. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU BUDDY?!

They're still cool!

Sorry in advance for for bumping this.
So I finally bought this game for the PS3 and installed the game to lower the loading time. However, I'm noticing there's a bit of lag in all the towns. There's only a slight skip/lag when I cross a certain area. It seems like each town has their own little spot. I don't remember the 360 version doing this(but it's been like 4 years now). At first, it wasn't really bothering me, but it seems like I'm encountering it in every town I coming across, so it's starting to annoy me. Is it supposed to be like this? Everything else if fine. The world map does seem it take a bit longer to load but the dungeons and battles are all good. I did buy it new but when I opened it, the disc was loose from the holding. However, there's no damage on the disc.

It's just that little skip, like when crossing the bridge in Port Nor, will become bothersome if I keep encountering it. I would check the 360 version if my 360 didn't die a couple months ago.

I had this bought from Japan through a friend who went for a vacation. I don't even think if I can get the plat for this. I'm having challenges with Yeager's secret mission and finishing it in less than 8 hours!

But I enjoyed playing through it.

I really don't know what exactly the issue was for Vesperia not being released. Me thinks that Namco is thinking that it wasn't a commercial success
