Two of my all time favorite movies, though I prefer the first one. I re-watch them every year.

I don't even consider the third movie to be part of the saga. From what I've read, Coppola considered the story finished with the second film, and the only reason a third was made was because he was in a shitty situation financially.

I think it's different things for different people. For most, it's a continuation of the fascinating crime saga from the first movie. For me, it's one of the best character studies I've ever seen.
