I never get a peaceful vibe there, the enemies there are rough.
That is probably my biggest complaint about Prime 2. The enemies are bullet sponges. I think Prime 1 did the "use the right weapon and they die more quickly" thing a whole lot better. Especially since it didn't have the unnecessary ammo system.
But Echoes does use that, though it is still harder, even if Retro lowered the difficulty in the Wii version.
Light Beam on dark enemies, Dark Beam on light enemies. Rarely is ammo ever an issue unless you miss the upgrades. The charged dark shots also work like the ice beam in the first Prime where you can freeze enemies and destroy them with a single missile. Even the mighty Rezbits are susceptible to this strategy.
What do people think of Corruption? It doesn't seem to get mentioned a lot compared to Prime 1 and Echoes, but it might be my personal favorite of the trilogy.

Very streamlined, with all the bad and good that entails. I love the aesthetic design and the faster combat, but the beginning of the game is mediocre and there is too much handholding.
Echoes is essentially Prime on crack. It has similar pacing (but loads more complexities) and doesn't do anything radical in terms of laying out objectives and having you mess around until you reach certain destinations. The only thing I can tell you now without spoiling the entire experience is that for someone new to it, it'll probably be best if you learn to recognize and make mental notes of small details in structures and level design when moving about the world.
I might make a fully elaborated thread on this, but Corruption is everything Other M wanted to be and should have been. It's sad how someone else is now completely outdoing the original creator now.
I know you didn't ask me, but It is indeed slower, and more complex and difficult... Though the difficulty was lowered in the Wii version unfortunately. It is my least favorite of the trilogy, though still an incredible game. When it's on, it's on, but there are some really low points as well. It does have my (and many others) favorite area in the series which I still consider to be the pinnacle of 3D game design... It really is incredible.

Extremely snappy, one of the best early uses of pointer controls on Wii, art direction is ridiculously impressive, but gets docked points (imo) for its decreased complexity (in level and boss design) in a post Echoes world and the somewhat hammy us vs. it/them story with the Federation and Pirates.
I loved Prime but sadly never beat it. I got so lost at one point and was spending so much time backtracking I just couldn't get back into it. I really want to go get that trilogy disc and give it another shot.

Personally it's my favorite in the series, though Prime 1 obviously had the biggest impact. I think people who play the Triology version might find Corruption a bit lacking because they've already played two games with one of Corruption's biggest strengths, the Wiimote controls, which weren't originally in Prime 1 and Echoes obviously. But you can tell in Corruption that everything was designed around these controls, from the enemies to the puzzles to the boss battles, whereas in Prime 1 and Echoes it's just nice to be able to point and shoot.
But the game easily has the best art direction of the series, and some of the best art direction I've ever seen in a game. It has, for me, three of the top 5 boss battles in the series (
Meta Ridley, Rundas, and Gandrayda
). It also gives more context to what you are doing... Retro's environmental storytelling through gameplay is a significant step above what they did in the first two games. My favorite example of this would be the sequence with
Samus being alerted several times about her ship taking damage. You then go to see through a window that Ghor is there beating the shit out of it. You then proceed to walk down a twisting hallway with revenge on your mind... Just a fantastic moment followed by a great boss battle
.
I can see why people don't like it as much as the first two though... It's more streamlined, quite a bit easier than Echoes, annoying characters and voice acting, and a subpar final boss battle.
But Echoes does use that, though it is still harder, even if Retro lowered the difficulty in the Wii version.

It uses it, but it's still a pain to kill a lot of enemies. Especially the ones where you have to hit small vulnerable areas and it takes 4+ charge shots to kill them (let alone some of those late game enemies that take seem to take a dozen). It doesn't help that the missile combos are really bad compared to Prime's.
And the ammo usually isn't an issue, but it's still an entirely pointless and unnecessary addition to the game. It's like they wanted the standard power beam to remain useful so they added arbitrary limitations to the other beams, instead of just balancing them better.
One of my favourites on the Wii and really sorry I got rid of this when the Wii went. When I got a Wii U I searched online to buy it again and was amazed to see that collection was going for £200 to £300 for used copies. Crazy, did it only get a limited UK release?
Metroid Prime is one of my favorite all-time games. MP2 is also great.
But I couldn't even finish MP3. It felt way too much like Metroid meets Halo. Not that I have anything against Halo, but it just doesn't feel like a proper Metroid game. Too much focus on action.
Other M only gets points for reminding me that athletic Samus is still the coolest fucking character in Nintendo's roster of playable characters. After that everything is a wash of good gameplay ideas with horribad execution or presentation/story woes that have been beaten to life after death.
On a bit of a related tangent though, can anyone tell me why in the Trilogy re-release of Echoes, the Dark Temple key jingles got changed? I loved the Luminoth theme and thus the bombastic jingle in the original GCN release was something that always stuck in my head. Hearing that new one when I played through the Trilogy version was a really jarring experience. :lol
Thanks OP, going to dedicate my Christmas gaming around this. I played Corruption a bit, never beat it, but the others will be fresh to me.
Question, so, I have a Wii U, can I use headphones to play this game? Like, will I be able to plug them into my GamePad? I am not sure because the Wii U basically turns into a Wii when you're playing Wii games on it.
There are a TON of missable logs in Prime 2. The most infamous are a turret near the beginning of the game and the barrier over the door during a single boss fight. I'd advise scanning EVERYTHING. Whenever a boss changes, scan it again.
Prime 1 has a few. The ones most people miss are some stuff on the frigate at the beginning, a pointless Shriekbat variation, and some minor enemy variations during a couple of boss fights.
Prime 3 has some annoying ones (mostly shriekbats), but at least scan data transfers over to a new game.

Yeah, those Dark Commandos in the Torvus Bog are a nightmare. I was just pointing out that there are ways to deal most the enemies quite easily.
I disagree about the beam combos though... The Sunburst did suck, but the Darkburst was incredible... Sucking Space Pirates into a black hole of oblivion is one of the most satisfying things in the whole series, and reducing a room full of enemies with the sonic boom to dust is awesome.

I definitely would recommend the Prime games to Ratchet and Clank fans if they don't mind something slower paced and a bit more challenging and difficult. Just be aware that the tone is more serious (though without sacrificing that fun, gamey feel).

Because when you select to go to Wii Mode, it asks you if you want "TV" or "TV + Gamepad". TV+Gamepad will put the Wii Menu on the gamepad aswell, which also outputs the sound via the Gamepad aswell, so headphones work.
Hell, you can even just use the Gamepad screen while holding the Wiimote+Nunchuk!
It's a bit crazy to compare 2002's Metroid Prime with 2014's Destiny in terms of the sense of place the games give you. Obviously the two games are built differently due to the combat mechanics and multiplayer differences, but it feels like 12 years later, AAA games should have at least caught up to Prime in terms of making you feel like you are in a believable world.

It's my favorite too. More action-oriented, more lineal and less confusing. And it has Elysia, which is a strong candidate for best area in the trilogy.

So weird. I just picked this up the other day. Never played echoes or all the way through prime.
The motion controls are amazing. I just got the spider ball in prime and really loving the game.
Edit
Corruption I have played before and I loved it. People seem to say it's the most linear but if that's what you call linear I'm OK with it. There are tons of secret areas and you still get that awesome metriod sense of discovery. Also, incorporating her ship is such an awesome idea. Would love to see more of this know future versions of the game.
I've been replaying the Trilogy on my Wii U as well (currently about halfway through MP2). The games look really nice on the Game Pad, and having them available semi-portably is pretty cool. The one thing I never realized about the series before now is how shockingly low the FOV is compared to modern shooters. It makes the games feel really claustrophobic. Other than that, it's still just as fresh and innovative as ever.
