LTTP - Vampyr (w/ PS5 Update)

iu

I've been aware of this game, almost bought it a few years back but (unwisely) got Call of Cthulhu instead, lol. Was browsing my PS+ games last night and remembered that Vampyr was available a while back.

They also released a PS5/XSX update a few months back (Oct 2021), v. 1.09. 60fps w/ improved visuals. PS+ version is 1.09 too. Pretty stoked to try this out.

Anyone play this? I've always heard that it's a sleeper hit. I peeked at metacritic and it has it's fair share of negative reviews but honestly, what do they know? lol.

Would love to hear some thoughts from those who have played it. Minimal spoilers/details please. Trying to go in without preconceived notions.

I played it on PC maybe a couple of years back. It had some serious potential in the dialogue system and player choice, but the combat system was clumsy and overall execution of the systems in the game were lacking.

I think they could have nailed it in a sequel.

Wait the game got update? I still haven't finished it, so I might go back if that's the case. The performance sucked before (well so does the animations, but whatever).

I enjoyed the idea of the game but the game itself is really clunky. If you can get past that then it is well worth playing as the story and the dilemma of sparing or killing people is pretty well done.

Could have been amazing but still pretty decent I'd say.

I liked it quite a bit. I mean, given all budget resources that the devs had it is an awesome game. I really wish they kept evolving the formula.

This game was perfect to me, I still think about it all the time. The atmosphere was almost suffocating. To be honest I enjoyed it a lot more than Witcher 3.

I remember this at launch. It was good but outstayed its welcome and the story seriously fell apart the more it went on. Great setting and concept though.

I finished it without killing folks(well, one person i think). I enjoyed it a lot and felt it was a nice change from your typical stuff these days. I hope they make a sequel.

A serious Vampire: The masquerade: bloodlines.
Like that game, it's a fantastic Vampire Simulator, and also like that, it could use a few more months in the oven.

It's very hard to play the good guy in this game. It simulates the thirst for blood with you becoming severely underpowered if you don't feed on civilians.

This game used to crash like a mofo on my base PS4. I eventually gave up playing it, as it would happen at least once or twice any hour.

I've heard it's not happening any more on PS5.

Can confirm the upper part. Crashed like crazy even on PS5 before the patch, but played it till the end before the patch was released, so I can't comment on that.

Game is ok, interesting story and characters. Went for a "spare all" playthrough, so I didn't really have many options for fighting, but it felt mediocre. Technically pretty rough.

Played it on PC years ago, but abandoned it at around... Uhm...70/80% of the game, because I started another game and never returned to it (yes, I have a hefty pile of unfinished titles)

Still, I loved every second of it and I definitely plan to finish it and do a second "evil" playthrough...

The only thing I didn't like: the world is wonderful to explore but I REALLY wished for a fast travel... Going back to earlier zones to clear some stuff (especially one long and distant subquest, you know the one) is a chore

Platted it a few months ago, was interesting to play it now, whilst the world was going through covid, and the game has a flu epidemic story line

Slowish start, and you gimp yourself a little if you play "nicely", need to rely more on proper weapons and a slower play through style, but if you decide to kill everyone (if you keep them healthy and do their full stories), you get some cool powers

Played it twice, back to back to get the no kills playthrough done. On ps5 I'd happily give it a 7/10. Agree with someone above, could have done with 2 or 3 fast travel points on the map

Not a bad game at all. Can get it pretty cheap too. I'll add it to my list of games to Plat.

There are no visual enhancements apart from the framerate increase. None. Game is ayt, I guess. Nothing special imo. Combat sucks ass but the atmosphere and VA were top notch.

Gooooood game. Naysayers are idiots. Story is A+.

is the story good enough to ignore the average gameplay? I played "Remember Me" from the same developer a few years ago and it was entertaining enough to finish the whole story.

Absolutely. The things that make this game great (story included) far outweigh any negatives for me. I had a blast with it and feel it's very underrated.

I loved this game.

It is third person and open world, but the world building and story is really well done. The game is set around World War I and the "primitive" by our current standards medical knowledge of the 1910s is weaved into the story, dialogue and context of the game.

I am not a big fan of combat in games, so being able to play as a vampire without having to kill innocent civilians was a nice aspect of the game. That said, the fact that you killed dozens and dozens of "bad" people in the game really creates that feeling of "ludonarrative dissonance." The game makes such a big deal about not taking the blood of innocent people, but here you are during a brutal World War I setting killing waves of "bad guys" who were probably out on the streets robbing and stealing to stay alive.

I only point this out though. The ludonarrative dissonance observation does not detract from the overall quality and creativity of the game. If they release a sequel, I will be there on day one.

The game has great atmosphere and I really liked the investigating elements and the dialogue/characters. Interesting possibilities which fun choices to make!

However, it's kind of unpolished and the overall execution doesn't really hold up all the way I think. Also, for me there was a tremendous difficulty spike during the last boss which made it impossible for me to beat due to how I had specced my character which was very disappointing.

uhm? I'm sorry what?

One X better run on Ultra settings and Pro on Low, if not this is kinda laughable lol
I was thinking the same thing. It reads all kinds of wrong.

Really enjoyed playing the game: went with the good vampire vibes and it is a challenge. That said I never completed it so the update game me a motivation to get back to it. While it looks the same as the old version, framerate makes a ton of difference.

On paper, this game had everything that interested me, but I feel like the implementation was not something that felt great to me. I played for around 8 hours before giving up. If a few blemishes here and there were ironed out, maybe I'd give another game like it a chance.

I put like 45 minutes into it and it seems fun enough. I like the atmosphere. I can see the combat being interesting, juggling the stamina and blood meter. Animations in general seem kinda stiff but the game screams AA so can't really hold it against it. Just have to play accordingly.

Glad to have it though, I can definitely see myself chipping away at it.

I dont know how many of you are aware of this but you can play this game with combat turned off and it immediately becomes one of the best vampire adventure / rpgs ever made.

Atmosphere is GOAT tier, world is full of interesting characters and the dialogue choices are pretty good. Combat was atrocious, sadly.

I highly recommend it if you enjoy vampire flavour media, and point and click adventure games fans will also find a ton to love here.

I loved it. Combat was so so but the setting and storyline were amazing. Pretty much the most modern "Jane Jensen-like" story of the last years, interlinking facts and fiction for an amazing worldbuilding.

Loved the game! I played it soon after they released the ps5 update. Great dialogue, story and overall atmosphere. Combat is pretty cool as well with the vampire powers, dodging and all.

Give it a go!

This got a PS5 update? Played it on PC/Game Pass but dropped it because it had issues with Windows UI scaling so playing on my TV was impossible.

I'm still interested in (and surprised this got an update while games like Mafia 1 haven't)

I think it's just ps5 aware BC…aka a ps4 game behaving like Pro+ on a ps5
