LTTP Vita: Uncharted Golden Abyss

I loved it, even platinum it (way harder than the 3 main games combined). After 3 playtroughs (crushing kicked my ass specially the QTE's on the final chapters, this one is) and bunch of "NEAR" BS (for the trophies) I'm never touching this game again but definitely recommended it to PS Vita Owners.

Solid game, and I liked wiping dirt off shit. I actually looked forward to doing it. It was like I was a real archaeologist and stuff, a real serial killer archaeologist.

I really loved it.

It felt like Uncharted, and that's all I wanted. I still couldn't believe it when I got my Vita on launch day, and booted it up for the first time. To think that I was playing an Uncharted game on a handheld, with the graphical fidelity that it had just blew me away. I'm not a stickler for jaggies or resolution, so I thought the game looked great on the Vita's OLED.

I still have to go back and collect all of the treasures one day, I just have too big of a Vita backlog to get through to revisit stuff I've beaten already.

I enjoyed the story, pacing, and gameplay. Gyro aiming is fricking amazing. At first I wanted to write it off, but I stuck with it, and became pro at it, and now I wish more shooters on the Vita or otherwise, had gyro aiming. I also think I'm one of the only people on GAF that actually enjoyed the touch stuff like charcoal rubbings and cleaning off artifacts. Lol.

I'm playing this right now. Fairly good, just seems like it's trying to be an average Uncharted game. Works as an intro to Vita type of game.

New Vita owner here. Got this on PS+ and I'm up to about Ch 10. Huge Uncharted fanboy here...

But the game is pretty bland. Makes me question my love of the series, honestly. I want to go back and play 1 and 2 to re-affirm. Bland story, nice looking but uninspired environments so far and none of the chemistry between characters of the main games. Definitely feels farmed out and like a launch game.

But my biggest gripe is with all the extra unneeded bullshit. What are these cards I keep getting? Why are all the photos I'm supposed to be looking out for listed out of order in my journal? And why am I taking these damn photos? Why am I getting 95% on them when they're damn near exactly like the target photo? Swiping QTEs and rubbing dirt off objects is just shoe horned in there. It's all stupid shit the game would be better without.

Gyro aim is nifty to get final pinpoint accuracy but you still need to use the right stick to get in the neighborhood. I actually do hope they bring this UC4: LT to pull up the gun, then RS to flit from target to target quickly, then the awesome gyro aim of the DS4 (if you've used it to type you know what I mean) to pin point the aim. Basically RS is equivalent to gross movement of your arm to aim at targets generally and the gyro is like your fine motor skills of the wrist and hand to truly aim.

I'll certainly finish the game as it's at least decent. It's just that console Uncharted is great. Not sure I want Console Game Jr content on Vita.

Would you mind just bumping previous LTTP's if they exist? The last thing we need is a flood of them...

And the game is about the same as Uncharted 1. Not a diss, but not a complement.

I loved this game to be honest. But it does suffer from being too much like Uncharted 1 and not having enough variety in the environments,

I just wish that now it was over there was something similar to play on the Vita, but alas there doesn't seem to be anything even close.

It's a beautiful game with an awesome vertical environment (which is a rarity in games) with incredible music and the best traversal mechanic in gaming.

Sadly the framerate gets pretty rubbish in the action bits and becomes a bit frustrating because of it.

Also the barren and empty world is kinda off putting in an "open world" game. Ooh. A TIME CHALLENGE!!!

Gyro aiming is what makes this game amazing. It's so well done and intuitive I don't understand how people can't get it. If every game had gyro aiming like this game gaming would be better for it (but games might be too easy then). Gyro aiming in Gravity Rush is also amazing.

The immersion and connection that the gyro aiming adds to these games is phenomenal and really made me "get into" the action unlike few gaming experiences, almost like playing a great racing game with a nice wheel.

I mean, i was a decent ways through the game when i turned auto aiming off, i just couldnt get used to it. even on its lowest sensitivity, moving the right stick would shoot right past enemies, and id have to fight to have it land on them, and i just didnt like the gyro aiming enough. i also, weirdly, would go the opposite direction with the gyro, dunno why.

Gyro aiming should be turned to maximum sensitivity for best results.

This was my first Vita game and I really liked it. The graphics and gameplay for a handheld game blew my mind. It's a good benchmark to show what the Vita is capable of

Aiming was almost perfect for me. Once you've played enough, gyro aiming is amazing. You just cover, aim without pressing L (just need to learn how the camera works), behind cover. Then you press L, spend 0.5-1 second with gyro aiming, headshot, return to cover. Repeat. I've beaten the game that way in crushing without problems.

The AI can be quite annoying at times, that's true. And I know what you're saying about the gaming forcing you to do stuff when there should be another option. It may happen more often than ND Uncharted games, but I had that feeling in all those games.

IMO, the plot twist in the game was precisely that
there isn't a supernatural plot twist in the game, surprise!
. Still you have a rather funny secret cutscene if you play the game in crushing, one or two minutes before you start
the fucking QTE fight with Dante.

The story was decent. If you liked Uncharted 1 you'll like this game. If you prefer 2 and 3, you'll probably find it pretty average.

For me, it was a nice handheld game. Chapters were shorter, waves battles were usually shorter than in homeconsole games, especially the ones you could go through with stealth. The collectibles were, IMO, a los better than typical Uncharted games, and I hope U4 copies them. Brushing things, and charcoal drawings make you feel a little more like an archeologist.

Deserves a sequel imo

I haven't gotten around to finishing it yet but I like the story, the visuals are lush and it's typical Uncharted gameplay.

My only gripe is some of the touch screen and the balancing tightrope mechanics.

Golden Abyss for me is the real uncharted 3.
While 3 let me down in almost every aspect GA was such a fun little romp on vita.
Hell if not for the tacked on vita gimmicks i'd almost say it's as good as UC2.

Also the female Companion there is easily the best in the series.

I recall someone saying that Making your own LTTP was allowed if the other has been dormant for awhile.
Since if it's your views you want to present last thing you want to do is dig up a year old LTTP and then everyone is really only reading the OP's post not realizing it's thread necromancy.

UC2>UC3>UC:G>UC1

It's a good game, but unfortunately it lacks set-pieces of UC2 and UC3. But the gameplay itself was never better, I think.

Would you say closer to UC1&2 gameplay from a shooting standpoint? The platforming/climbing in Uncharted has always been amazing, but the shooting in UC3 was messed with, and even post patch is not as good as UC1&2 in that regard. I think I like the UC1 look of the game, and the graphics do look amazing from what I have seen.

It was one of the first games I played on my Vita, but I left it about 2/3 of the way through. I thought it was very good; probably up there with Drake's Fortune, although not quite as good as either of the sequels. I really liked its secrets angle, where rather than just finding hidden treasure you have to identify certain objects and make charcoal prints and so on.

I agree with this, but someone's moaned at me for excessive necromancy in the past. I guess it's up to personal preference.

It's definitley more like UC1 and 2.
I never had a problem with it since like you said UC3 was bonked even after the patch.

It feels like Drakes Fortune to me in terms of shooting, the cover/climbing stuff is smooth too. The level design/look reminds me a lot of the first game too. (Was the game that made me buy a PS3) If you have Playstation Plus it's a free download :)

Sweeeeeet. I'm thinking of going full handheld, I already have a 3DS, but need something that would go nicely with it. The Vita seems like a perfect fit with some truly excellent games and graphics, but I am waiting for a good deal with added memory. Uncharted and Killzone will be the first games I pick up, as well as P4G. Can't afford next-gen atm and it hasn't done anything truly amazing...yet.

Yep, the climbing took me by complete surprise. Uncharted 1 still has much more fluid and precise controls than the Assassin's Creed games (played up to and including Revelations). Really shows the unmatched skill of Naughty Dog compared to Ubisoft's work, which I think is quite average.

Thanks both for the replies, the game sounds right up my alley. Iron Maiden time, cya guys!

The gimmicky stuff was awful, like the touch puzzles and "removing dust" bullshit.

That being said, I really liked the game, specially from the point when
Sully
comes in. I think at that point the game became much better - funnier and with great pacing.

It's a good game that I'm okay with giving a free pass because it's Bend's first foray with UC, HD-esque development and a launch game.

Gravity Rush is anything but fun.

When you're flying around, transitioning between that and sliding seamlessly without ever stopping, killing shit left and right... it's a goddamn blast.

When you play it like you've never touched a video game before and just spam gravity kicks, yeah, it's not fun.

Shitty game.

Gameplay is poor. Story is poor. Characterization is weak and doesn't match the previous titles. Graphics are okay, sub-native res doesn't help. Touch screen was mostly gimmicks, sans sniper rifle precision aiming which was nice.

It's not an Uncharted game. It's like one of those iOS Call of War/Battlefield of Duty clones that's seems similar enough, but always falls short of the real thing. Should stay with Naughty Dog where it belongs. Adore the three console titles.

It's a decent first attempt at an Uncharted game, but lacks a lot of the polish and consistency Naughty Dog would have given it. I was never too impressed with Marissa Chase, she didn't feel as natural as Chloe and Elena. The gyro aiming, however, was excellent. Every game should have it, especially with the DS4's improved gyro thingies.

I liked it despite some rough edges. It's one of those games that I likely wouldn't have payed money for but was a pleasant surprise on PS+.

I think the game was pretty decent at times. The gyro was implemented well and the treasure system being of relevance was better than the console games.

But it was only decent when actually playing said game normally. The game was effectively ruined by being turned into a gimmick showpiece and in the end I wouldn't recommended it to anyone

Gravity Rush is anything but fun.

If buy anything but fun you mean it's much more than a simply "ok, i guess it's fun", then I agree with you. If you are saying the game is bad, I disagree.

Controls can be a little clunky at times, but the game is really good despite it's flaws. If the sequel has a better sidequest system and better controls, it can be easily my next year GOTY. They just need to polish the rough parts to make it look like the gem the game is at its core.

About Uncharted, I won't mind getting another one for the Vita, but I don't think it should release last year. I still think releasing two Uncharted games in less than 6 months was a mistake. And next year we'll probably get Uncharted 4 for the PS4.

All this time and I didnt know about gyro aiming. And I got the game when it launched.

I like it, son loves it. He loves anything Uncharted. Whats wild (or rightfully so depending on who you talk to...) he plays 1 and 2 the most on my PS3, doesnt really mess with 3. And he plays Golden Abyss faithfully.

I think its one of the better games for the Vita. For it to be on a handheld...I think they did a great job. Someone said it in another thread...Sony tried to give ppl a home console/PS3 experience in a handheld...and IMO I think they have.

Using the back touchpad for any game is kinda hard to get used to. I did like that for some areas you didnt have to use on screen controls. Like climbing up some cliff or mountain it was optional. I just used the buttons. The times it wasnt optional, there were some trail n error moments.

Playing through it now... on Chapter 17.

Lots of Vita gimmicks! They are't too intrusive but can be disjointing. I haven't played an Uncharted in a while, so seeing Drake again is honestly returning to heartwarming comfort food. Decent enough narrative to keep me interested. Gyro aiming is rad after you get he hang of it.

(and I really enjoyed Gravity Rush - especially traversal)
