LTTP: Wolfenstein (2009) - seriously, Raven are amazing devs

I didn't like the hub world, it didn't feel neseccary. Other than that, great shooter. It was underrated too with a metacritic score around 72.

The mission waypoint icon, is useless, and extends the game's length about two hours via being lost.

I agree that Raven are masters of fps combat feel, ever since Soldier of Fortune, they've had that down pat.

Having just finished this recently (was working on backlog) I can say I really enjoyed the game. Fun moment to moment combat with powers and set pieces.

It's a shame Raven has been relegated to being CoD stooges, with any other publisher their creativity and vision may have flourished.

Wolfenstein rights reverted back to iD/ZeniMax afaik.

I LOVED the awesome opening level with the gravity messing explosions every 10 seconds or so.

I've only played a few more hours after that but it wasn't really holding my interest as much as the great opening and I haven't been back for a while. The incineration laser cannon was amazing, though. I also liked the weapon upgrade system.

I hear RTCW is one of the best shooters ever made, and is great fun online. I'll play it one day.

Enemy Territory with Jaymod (and the right server admins and population) was absolutely amazing. It was why I tried Brink. Whoops.

Haha!

I love old shooters. Hell, I love old crappy shooters too. Something humbling about them, and they're tons of fun, usually.

It's why I still play World at War (hardly old, I know, but ageing now) - it's mod community makes for some hilarious glitches and fun times with friends.

They need to do something else with it. The IQ plus performance hasn't been bettered this gen for me, console wise.

It's a nice game, a period FPS with some flavor. I can see why it got overlooked, but it's the kind of game everybody should try now that it's so cheap

I really enjoyed this game a ton, too....I always liked RtCW (except for when you went in the caves). Running around the castle itself was a lot of fun. The "hub" world in this one was pretty fun...but led to a little bit of monotony.

I didn't know Raven made Wolfenstein 2009 too. I enjoyed Singularity and went as far as platinuming it (I saw it as new copy for 10 bucks and was like...why not >.>)

Now I gotta add this to my huge backlog.

We seriously need a new Medieval FPS where you punch the hell out of things and turn them into chickens/pigs.

Eff this Modern Warfare bollocks.

Check Chivalry: Medieval Warfare

Bought this on whim two years ago and loved it. Tried Singularity and found it less interesting.

Prefer the approach/hub world of Wolf greatly. Multiplayer was fun (and still active) in 2012.

No Porkulator = No Sale.

Would love Heretic or Hexen to appear on PSN/XBLA. Such a shame the franchise is dead for those two. :(

In the tumultuous time before D-day
There once was a man named BJ
With his chocolate box hair
And a face like a bear
And a jacket he picked up on Ebay

I would love to see a Raven-made Heretic III with the 3rd person action followed by a first-person Hexen III.
Impossible. The team hardly exists in the same capacity to make a "Raven Heretic" game. They're a barebones staff, brutalized after heavy layoffs from the disappointing sales numbers of Wolfenstein and Singularity back to back.
Now it's just a bunch of guys making Call of Duty map packs once in a while.

It's a shame, because they were on a pretty decent streak. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was one of the best hack-n-slash games I played all generation, and Wolfenstein and Singularity were both very good. But those last two were expensive and nobody bought them.

I pretty much love everything about this game. I bought it day 1 and played from start to finish in a few days and never looked back. It's one of those games I'm glad I kept because I will play it again eventually, and will choose a different upgrade path next time (all exoctic weapons maxxed!).

Activision are fucking idiots.

"Hey Bizarre, you're the awesome racing devs right? Go make Bond third person shooter."
Bizarre had two teams—Bond was from the team who did The Club and the PGR team did Blur. So I don't think you can say they weren't capitalizing on their specialties.

"Raven, yeah, I've heard you guys are great FPS devs. Go pump out some map packs."
Raven is lucky they are even still around—this game took five years and $40-50 million to make, and Singularity had a development cycle of the same length. I've heard the development of both games was just a mess of Raven's doing. (That said, I hold a soft spot for Singularity—thought it was a very fun and silly game.)

i'm playing wolfenstein right now and i'm loving it!!! combat feels great, the levels are very atmospherical and the hubworld is great fun to explore

RtCW's campaign aged horribly. It was painful beating it last year.

I dunno what you're talking about. I beat the game two months ago and had so much fun I went back and beat it again on the hardest difficulty. Granted, I played at a very methodical pace, leaning around corners, making sure to get headshots, and stealthing whenever I could stealth (for some reason, I like utilizing stealth in games where it's an option, but the game isn't heavily built around it, like RtCW, or Red Faction: Guerilla)

My only qualm with the game is that the last boss was such a pushover compared to almost every other boss you fought earlier.

I'm interested in Wolfenstein 2009, and there were a lot of good things about the demo, but I didn't like how cramped the environments felt, and I didn't like having regenerating health. Trying to stay alive with low health in RtCW and even Wolfenstein 3D bring some of the most thrilling moments of each game. From what I could tell of Wolf 2009, you're already getting mystical powers and upgradable weapons to give you the upper hand. Having regenerating health just strips out the challenge. Also, no leaning :(

I haven't even played wolfenstein 2009, but singularity and wolverine were definitely two very underrated gems this gen. I went to school in Madison, WI where ravensoft is, got to see their studios---very impressive. I wish they weren't relegated to activisions' bench because their individual work is better than treyarch.

One of the biggest multiplayer letdowns of this gen. Dev team were fired so couldn't rectify their (many) mistakes.

I completed the SP of Singularity and actually enjoyed it. The MP was an interesting concept but the game was pretty much dead on arrival in terms of numbers online.

Loved Raven since the early days, they've always been underrated for just how fucking good the shooting feels in their games. OK that's personal opinion anyway, but I've always had a big smile on my face when shooting fools in a Raven FPS and chuckled with glee when I got the latest weapon of destruction. Them and Monolith are two of my favourite FPS devs for 'feel' of combat and how satisfying their games are to play. It's a pity both of them have been gutted to some extent, makes me sad.

I still also HATE the way Activision took Soldier Of Fortune off them and gave it so some shitty, no mark developer who churned out something fucking terrible. Soldier Of Fortune 1 and 2 were fucking incredible, so many hours spend in SoF2's multiplayer.

Bah, now I'm depressed *goes sits in the corner*

edit. I was actually thinking of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It wasn't even Raven game :(
That was one of the better FPS games of last deacade.

RTCW was one of my favorite MP games of all time. What they did with the MP of this games was absolutely awful. I'm still mad.

I could never get the MP to even work. I would put this on the same list as Dark Messiah as MP gone too waste.

Enjoyed the single player though.

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was way better when it came to online and it was FREE! I think there are still people playing it if you want to give it a shot :b

I haven't played Wolfenstein or Singularity, but I think I'm one of the few people out there who fucking loved Quake 4. Raven are definitely one of my favorite devs. Makes me sad that they're just doing Call of Duty DLC now.

I know, right. Probably the biggest gaming disappointment of all time for me.
