LTTP: Xbox. Recommend some games!

In light of the Xbox 360 price drop and the fact that, apparently, you won't have to smother the damn thing in blankets every 5 days, I've decided it's about time I made the jump into the non-Wii next-gen. I realize I'll be knee-deep in Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Halo 3 very shortly, but in the meantime I might as well use my new console to play old stuff.

GAF, your mission: recommend your favorite X-box gems for someone who hasn't touched the system for anything but Halo.

Hmm, all my favorite Xbox games were games I only played online, and I doubt anyone plays them on Live anymore... Crimson Skies, MechAssault, Counter-Strike (Xbox version was suprisingly fun even though I played on PC since beta), and Rainbow Six 3. Crimson Skies is probably still worth getting since the single player is OK and it's ~$4 used.

Fable was short but sweet. Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is awesome, the game world is bigger than Oblivion's and there's a lot more exploring.

Oh yea, definitely get Top Spin, especially if you're interested in offline multiplayer. Best tennis game ever... not entirely sure if it's backwards compatible though.

Halo 1+2, Psychonauts, kotor 1+2, metal arms, crimson skies, forza, splinter cell 1-3, doa, ninja gaiden, top spin, pdo...

Rallisport 2
Thief 3
Ninja Gaiden
Rallisport 2
Fable
Sudeki
Rallisport 2
And a ton of others I can't think of.

(Rallisport 2 is not backwards compatible BTW)

I got an Xbox 360 and had no Xbox either, I bought:

Halo (good)
Halo 2 (good)
Psychonauts (good)
Conker Live & Reloaded (still sealed...)
Jet Set Radio Future / Sega GT2002 (just started JSRF, didn't touch Sega GT)

Fable is pretty decent and deserves a mention, especially if you never heard the hype about it beforehand.

i would recommend voodoo vince but that's not BC.

i think most of the others have been taken care of already.

KOTOR
Halo 1 & 2
Chronicles of Riddick
Hulk: Ultimate Destuction
Fable
Ninja Gaiden Black
Chronicles of Riddick isn't backwards compatible is it? Any way, they are making that extended version for 360 which someone who hasn't played it yet should probably wait for.

Really, I found a majority of the stuff people recommended to be extremely overrated (Phantom Dust, Jet Set Radio Future among them).

Breakdown is pretty neat (though it has its flaws). Really the only Xbox game I can recommend to you with certainty is Panzer Dragoon Orta, because it's awesome. Also, maybe Shenmue 2, but I haven't opened it yet.

Max Payne 1 and 2 (buy definitely if you like the Stranglehold demo)
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Crimson Skies
Unreal Championship 2

Damn. I forgot. I was lost in reminiscence of good times with the ol' Xbox.

Damn, no one played Metal Arms? That game had one of the longest, the most diverse, and the best single players. Odd world, stranger was also pretty good.

So is this just about Xbox games that's BC on the 360? If so...

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey...an absolute MUST play
Psychonauts
Crimson Skies
Ninja Gaiden Black
Morrowind GOTY
Sid Meier's Pirates!
GTA:SA
KOTOR
Conker Live and Reloaded
Jet Set Radio Future
Halo 1&2
Outrun 2
Breakdown
Call of Cthulhu
Fatal Frame 1&2
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
Indigo Prophecy
Fable
Jade Empire

If we're talking about all Xbox games I'd include...

Riddick
RTCW (multiplayer only)
Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon
Rallisport Challenge 2
Thief 3 Deadly Shadows (it's not really BC with the 360....don't let anyone tell you otherwise)
Stranger's Wrath

I'd definately recommend Def Jam: FFNY. The Def Jam series is one of the best fighting game series I've ever played. DJ: Icon doesn't do this series justice. FFNY is where it's at. Also get Ninja Gaiden: Black. It's...awesome. :D

P.S. I think when the thread starter said xbox games, he meant X360 games. So I'm also gonna recommend Gears of War.

i once played some weird game on XBOX called something like "Hey, Loc", or "Hell's Low", I didn't get a good look at the box, but basically you played as some giant robot guy and shot stuff. It was pretty neat I thought. It kind of reminded me of some game I once played on Gameboy called Faceball 2000 only in this one you shoot monsters instead of smiley heads. You might want to see if there is some game called something like Hell's Low at your local Kmart or dedicated video game merchant.

Nah, I think he meant original Xbox because he mentioned Halo.

In any case, I'll list the obvious 360 ones:

Gears
Oblivion
Forza Motorsport 2

KOTOR
Phantom Dust
Rallisport Challenge 2
Jet Set Radio Future
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Psychonauts
Forza Motorsport
Halo
Halo 2
Mech Assault
Amped 2
Project Gotham Racing/Project Gotham Racing 2
Thief 3
Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
Ninja Gaiden Black
Otogi: Myth of Demons/Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors
Kingdom Under Fire/Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Max Payne/Max Payne 2
Splinter Cell/Splinter Cell Chaos Theory
Fable
Arx Fatalis
The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind
Deathrow
DOA Ultimate/DOA 3
Top Spin

Must-play for the sake of playing awesomely bad games (fun but flawed)

Blinx: The Time Sweeper
Brute Force
Bloodwake
Kung Fu Chaos
Fuzion Frenzy
Oddworld: Munch's Oddyssey
Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions
Sudeki
Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball
Xbox ports of Doom 3 and Half-Life
House of the Dead 3

AVOID!

Blinx 2
WWE RAW/WWE RAW 2
Gunvalkyrie
Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus
Kabuki Warriors
Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon
Toe Jam and Earl 3: Mission to Earth
All XSN sports not already on the first list

Ninja Gaiden is the best 3D action game ever, so definitely get that. The first 3 chapters are kinda challenging, and there's this one boss around chapter 7 or 8 who you might end up fighting a couple of times, but other than that, it's a blast.

Nah, I meant original Xbox games. That said, I will most definitely be picking up Gears.
