Lumines Live! packs hit today (1/24)

Has anyone been able to finish puzzle 25?

Its the "letter O" which consists of a 5x5 square. I have created it perfectly twice now but it wont clear the stage...

O O O O O
O X X X O
O X O X O
O X X X O
O O O O O

From what I remember of the PSP version, you also have to make sure there aren't any O's touching the outside of the square.

Yah i made sure of that also. I dont know. I have built it using the purple and white hoping that would make a difference... no luck so far.

Heavenly Star is really nice, like the song.
The skin is also nice but I have to give it 9 epilepsy warnings out of 10... :p

The blocks and backdrop flash like mad! My brain gets really tired from playing it...

Played Heavenly Star once, got number 34 on the leaderboards (robut).

There's a leaderboard for that? Geez, I like the song and all but I'd have to play it on mute or I'd be annoyed

I only got to lvl 9 on the vs cpu pack but here you go :

-That Savanna Calls
-Automobile Industry
-Naha!!
-The bird singing in the night
-The speed of light
-Japanese Form
-Go to toy town
-Whoop-de-do
-TINTOY

Bah, that's like the same exact skins from Lumines 2.

It's a nice little video, and the song is cute, but it's not even as polished as a typical skin, it's missing all of the little animations and visual cues it feels like.

I kinda wish they had thrown in 5~ish songs of this type, perhaps not with such robust videos, polished it up some, made it a hard difficulty, and just charged for it.

But as it's free, it's hard to bitch, I just wish LL had some more songs of this type, I miss all the lyrical and artist songs from the original Lumines. Little bit too much fairly uninspired typical-esque video game synth thrown around here for a music heavy game.

The other packs are really nice though.

Do you get extra skins for beating mission or puzzle mode?

I just got a skin for beating all of the easy missions. It looks like you get a skin for beating each difficulty in both sections. 6 in total.

Got around to downloading the packs last night; good stuff. Of course, I have "Heavenly Star" stuck in my head now.

Did anyone else have their high scores erased by the update? My profile was still intact, but all my scores were gone. I'm not devastated or anything, since I suck anyways.

Same here, bought the entire pack some days ago. I have even riped "heavenly star" audio and i´ve been listening to the damn song all day.

I think i have got the hang on some of the "clues" in the gameplay but i still fell like i dont get it all yet, i dont fully understand it yet and specially in puzzle mode. I feel a bit embarrased saying this but i started playing yesterday that mode and felt completely lost on how to clear even the first stage. Don´t know how it works. Any tips or video on that?

I'm stuck on a couple of the Mission/Puzzle scenarios, one is the creation of a 4x4 square and the other involves clearing out a single column within 60 seconds. Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?

I'm stuck on the single column too :( !

Even though I really suck at this game I am absolutely addicted to it. I can't explain why though, it's like with Tetris on the original Gameboy. But I was actually good at Tetris. Maybe I have developed masochist attributes.

Does anyone have a Lumines for dummies guide handy?

Thats what i asked or at least some videos of people playing (saw some at youtube), specially for the puzzle scenarios and how the timeline/passes work.

The help/tutorial in the game is not enough and the tips/descriptions for each mode are sparse.

Still trying to figure out the puzzle thingy...i post an example image.

you have to achieve something like this?

luminesiipiezastn8.jpg

In that case, don´t the simmilar central orange blocks clear each other? do you have to achieve the boundaries of the figure only?

So, I downloaded the demo last night, and... I just have to ask. Do I have the worst 360 controller in the world, or are most of you finding other means of playing the game? Hitting down on my d-pad isn't so much "down", but more of a "randomly go right or left, and then down." I know the 360's d-pad is a bit shaky already, but I've never seen it as bad as it is when trying to play Lumines.

No, the X360 d-pad sucks. I really appreciate the PSP D-pad for this game, so much easier to play this on PSP

One of the best Lumines players actually uses the analog stick...

I really enjoy playing the game, but being partially color blind once the stage gets to the very light green blocks with white borders and white blocks with light green borders all my blocks stack up and the game ends because I simply can't differentiate between the block colors enough.

****, what is it with puzzle games always ****ing over colorblind gamers ?
I wish they would correct this shit, this is the reason I hate most puzzle games.

D-pad blows, but I've adjusted to using the analog stick. I still can't score as high as I can on my PSP, because analog just isn't as precise as a d-pad.

Another thing that blows about Lumines on XBLA is it doesn't work properly with custom soundtracks.

Even though I can use my own music, the sound drop off from the game isn't 100%, it still has semi music semi sound effect shit going on which clashes with the music I choose.

That would be because it's a MUSIC game, and you create MUSIC based on how you play.

That's like replacing the Guitar Hero music with a custom soundtrack while trying to play it.

I had the same problem too! Hahaha, I knew I wasn't stupid.

I think you're suppose to just have 5 blocks making that shape, the size on that background doesn't matter.

I found it to be more like Rez than GH, the music aspect of the game was pretty trivial.
I'd just like the option to kill this feature, it's poorly implemented, it's not even as well implemented as REZ.

The core of the game is very Tetris like, I was very unimpressed by the music and sound interactions in this game.

I unlocked all the vs. CPU skins and they are uniformly awful. Miz must be against giving away his good songs at that price. The newer characters are far more detailed, not that it's necessarily a positive.

My buddy picked this up recently and how he's hitting over 100 in 60 second time attack, it's maddening how he can make these huge squares that crumble into huge squares of the opposite blocks. I'm peaking near 80 and I'm still on the low end of my friends list. I'm not sure if I suck or if everyone is really good.

I made a little "tutorial video" called Lumines For Beginners. It shows a technique that is quite safe to use, and will get you quite far in the game. Using this technique, the game will take faaar longer then usual though, but it should be good for someone who is not very familiar with the game to get some progress.

I've done about 800.000 points in Advanced Mode using this almost exclusively, so I guess it's worth something.

Anyway, take a look and tell me what you think:

No, the size definitely matters. That's the trick. To get those pieces into position before they get cleared by the line.

Is this heavenly star skin availiable outside of the US? and if it isnt is there a way i can still get it?
I just downloaded it and I live in Belgium(Europe-.

I love that Heavenly Star song, very light and catchy..It's a great free download! Downloaded the other two 100points pack too.

Yep, you´re right. Finally got it yesterday :lol i cleared the first 17 puzles.

Btw, joaomgcd, thanks for the video.

Yeah, thanks man. I was sort of doing the right thing but obviously I wasn't doing it very well.

Also, I'm sure this has been asked before, but was is the correct pronunciation for Lumines?

Man, I just started playing this game a few weeks ago (and in between my 360 died again), but I got this new song a few days ago and I love it. Too bad I suck at the game. I feel like I won't get any better...stuck at around 150k on this song when there are people way over a million.

How? I watch the replay vids of other ppl and I can not come close to playing like that. *sigh*

Can someone post the best possible rotation of skins for Skin Edit mode? I want to go for the single lap achievement later.

I dont think order really matters, just make sure you have all skins unlocked and add them all to a playlist

I'm with you, only 150k to me right now is a pipedream. Probably just need lots of practice.

I think there's a limit. Which is kinda really stupid, but hey.
