She is signed by Interscope Records, a division of UMG, and just performed at the Super Bowl. There is nothing about that last sentence that says Indie.
EDIT: Sorry, her new album is going to be released on Mercury Records, a different division of UMG.

Soo...you should know that she is more than just famous for having a song in pineapple express trailer. She did vocals for Slumdog Millionaire OST. O Saya won Oscar that year, and has MIA's vocals. If anything, people remember Paper Planes more from the train sequence in that movie.

Wanting the law and contracts enforced is being outraged now? Good show gaf. Someone does something they're not allowed to, issue a fine, end of story. I didn't even notice the finger until the hilarious outrage over it sprouted. It was so quick. I did notice the "blur" they tried to censor it with, though. It looked very strange, almost spooky, but I thought it was a broadcast glitch.

I agree that she should be fined. As for the NFL, I guess they should be, since it was their broadcast? I don't know how things like that typically work. But I do agree with Rocket Scientist that the rules should be enforced.

All it needs is a random tweet somewhere and the fine becomes another publicity stunt.
Nothing wrong with a call for a fine; I'm merely informing you that it would actually be more of a sunk cost for a PR campaign for her than anything else.

But that kind of dancing is acceptable to quite a bit of the nation and as far as I know, allowed on live TV.
I say I am okay with a fine under the assumption that giving the finger on live TV is not allowed. 'Fuck' is not allowed to be said, but as for the gesture, I don't know. The FCC is investigating it though, so I assume they aren't happy with it. If it's not against some kind of rule or law, then I do not support a fine I guess.
This is only the start. The media is gonna milk this for all its worth.

Saying she "stole" the halftime show is a bit of a stretch. I agree she did it to sell records though. But expect the NFL to stick with an older demographic for the next few years. M.I.A.'s selfishness ends up hurting not only her but other young artists in the end who want to get similiar spots at events. Pretty soon they will have an orchestra playing at mid-field because people don't know how to act.
To people that don't get why people are upset, it is all about money. Advertisers don't want to be associated with someone shooting the finger at the camera when they all had been assured that nothing would go wrong at halftime. Advertisers don't want the bad press or possible protests. On a fundamental level why in the hell would she be so selfish? Madonna got her on the show, and she pulls that crap? Didn't do it in the practices, promised not to do anything dumb, but then pull that. Just ignorant.
If I was a parent, I probably would be a bit upset if I had my kids watching, dancing around the living room and this chick shoots the finger at the camera. Just dumb.

People are suggesting that it shouldn't be considered an obscenity at all because it IS just a finger. Some guy a long time ago decided he didn't like how it looked and arbitrarily pretended it meant fuck you or something. It's the same shit with 'curse' words. None of it makes sense. If you stuck a middle finger to your daughter she wouldn't know what you were doing, she would just see a middle finger.

The thing that I enjoy most about this story is how salty it's got to be making Madonna that she finally does the Super Bowl and actually does a somewhat decent job of it...and all everyone's talking about is this person she invited up on stage with her flipped the bird to the camera.
While I certainly don't know Madonna personally or anything, from what little I do know, she doesn't seem like the type that would take to being upstaged like that very well.

She's not my type but I certainly did a double take when I saw she was in her mid-30's. She's looking damned good for her age.
