MacBook Air refresh is here, 100$ cheaper too!

The latest update was done now so there can be a 6 month gap before the next version. And it's a small unannounced stopgap update which only happens occasionally anyway. Bookmark this post. Because if they update the Air's again before October I will eat my hat again. (I can't even remember why I ate it last time.)


If you had AppleCare it'd still be under warranty. (Unless you got it before April 2011.) I'd still call Apple or just take the walk and see if there's anything they can do. Even if they can't. Actually my 2012 Air had the same problem. So there might be a bad batch of batteries out there. It happens. But unless there's a class action suit for the problem being widespread your best bet is to hope for someone nice on the phone. (Do Apple Stores even have Genius Bars anymore? I couldn't even find one last time I was at one. Everyone did their purchasing on the floor. And the only counter didn't even look like a bar anymore.)

I don't need an MBA, I just went with it because of the price point. Now that Apple has seemingly relaxed the upgrade limitations on lower end machines I might be tempted to just jump to a rMBP 15" since I'm not going to be forced into buying extra flash storage I'll never use for a better CPU and a dedicated GPU.

And I might just give them a call, I know they will just tell me to replace it for $129, which I might just do sometime down the road. It isn't like the machine is unusable now, it just has the service warning there all the time and gets around an hour of life.

When mine was dying I couldn't leave it unplugged for a while until it "drained" completely. Whereas it would have a red dead battery image flash on screen if I tried to turn it on. But the thing was when I would plug it back in, after 5 minutes it'd be back to 95% charged.
 
I can run D3 on my 2012 13" Air (Sandy Bridge? Ivy? Whichever is newer). You can mess around with the settings till you get an appropriate framerate, but it runs great. It gets the fans going, though. Which is weird to hear because nothing ever gets the fans going. The thing is 99% of the time as silent as my iPad. But there you have it. You'll have no problem running D3 on a later model.

I was running Minecraft fine on my 2007 white MacBook. A Haswell Air will just run it much better since it's been 5 years since it came out and the game has been optimized a lot since.

Macbook Air 2012, 13", 1.8Ghz, Intel HD 4000
I can play League of Legends at max resolution, low graphic details and locked at stable 60 FPS without the getting the fans going.

World of Warcraft also plays quite nice at max resolution, stable 30 FPS, low details and medium draw distance. They fans only start revving up while I'm raiding or in very crowded cities.

Edit: Diablo 3 is definitely playable at @ max res, stable 30 FPS & low details but it makes my Air run hot most of the time.

Edit2: I even occasionally play DayZ SA under bootcamp/Windows 8.1. Using the lowest settings available, plus with some tinkering in the game's config files to reduce the draw distance, I get 30-ish FPS most of the time.
 
I am going to be doing a lot of traveling and will need to do about 2-3 hours of video editing per week in Adobe Premiere. Nothing fancy just cutting and exporting.

I was curious if anyone with the 2013 or 2014 i7 13" MBA has any experience with Premiere .

I don't think they are. The Air's are pointless without the battery life at this point and they can't do retina with Haswell and keep the same battery life. Broadwell processors still haven't shipped yet.
