From the guys behind the awesome King's Quest II remake, as well as King's Quest I, III and Quest for Glory II remakes, comes Mage's Initiation - an original adventure/RPG hybrid with high res painted backgrounds and amazing pixel work on sprites.

He's probably making all the assets in 1280x960

It's a 4:3 resolution. This would look awesome on a CRT.

I think it stretches up to 1280x960. I'd bet the native resolution is 640x800.

Or original resolution is 1280x960 and downscales to lower resolutions and upscales to bigger resolutions. Normal thing.

For widescreen UI can work differently and original image will be cut to 1280x720

Not even 1080p much less iPad retina level.... It's scanned artwork, wtf.

Pixel art holding things back?

Doesn't look too bad, but there was already a QfG homage game with a Kickstarter (Quest for Infamy) that succeeded but hasn't been released yet, as well as the Cole's own Hero-U. Will there be enough demand for this?

Regarding resolutions, if this was being made in Adventure Game Studio, as many of these are, the program does not support widescreen resolutions.

Well, I believe Himalaya's King's Quest III remake is of much, much higher quality than the one made by Quest for Infamy guys, so this is definitely something I'm personally more interested in.

I am quite certain that's not the case anymore. Although yes, it is made in AGS.

First 2 pictures look good (a bit amateurish) but the fighting picture looks terrible. Would have to see this in motion. Also the res is unfortunate.

Looks like you get 3 spells for each gem you are using. Could be interesting if they combo.

I agree, of all the games trying to evoke QfG era gameplay, this one hits closest to home for me. I think it helps tremendously that they remade QfG2 in VGA, so they have very intimate knowledge of the QfG formula, as 2 was definitely one of QfG games that has it all, and then some (also being one of the hardest QfG games). For that I also have some faith they'll deliver the QfG experience they claim, allowing each class unique solutions to the puzzles etc.

They announced this like 2+ years ago, figured it would be nearly complete by now rather than needing a kickstarter.

Looks like I am late as I just barely found out about this.

I think I can toss in $16 for this. I haven't played many of their remakes, but the Quest for Glory 2 one is my favorite in the series now. So I think they earned the $16 from me just for that. Can't have too many Quest for Glory inspired games in my book.

3 days left. I still think it hitting 150k is possible. The last few days usually get a bump. I think 120k stretch goal will be hit at least though.

So they finally stopped sponging off other people's work? Good for them. Colour me interested.

They made a name for themselves with other people's works and are ready to finally show what they are capable of?

This is no different than a band doing covers, and I bet you quite a few bands you know started that way.

Finally? Al Emmo came out 2006. The Sierra redos were nice enough, definitely wouldn't complain, it's not like they charged for them either so they couldn't really make much money off them being free. QfG 1, 3, 4, and 5 are all similarly mouse driven (with 5 being the oddball) and they brought 2 up to that standard so the whole series can be played in a similar manner. I feel they did a better job than LucasArts did with the Monkey Island special editions graphically actually, playing those stuff just constantly looked out of place.

It's great that it got funded, I'd like to play the game eventually.

You're right that as far as QfG, and maybe also KQ, they'd done the ones to do, but I guess they could have done Space Quest... aren't the first few of those text-parser only games? But yeah, original stuff is good too.
