Magical PSP Goodness: Loco Roco

i played the demo level like 20 times on the plane from tokyo to malaysia last month. the song is so fucking awesome. i even tried to parse the lyrics, but it wasnt working.

I played the heck out of the demo on a flight from Singapore to Ho Chi Minh, and then I was humming the song the entire week I was in Ho Chi Minh.

Didn't really have a problem with the controls, but I did catch myself trying to tilt the PSP when I was attempting to nudge the loco roco in a certain direction.

I downloaded the demo as soon as I found out that it was available. I just hope that the full is game is as fun as the demo.
Whoever had the idea to bring it to the PS3....pure fucking genius. Hey, maybe the tilt controller can win some converts. Didnt Ken say something about Sony considering adding that feature to PSP before it came out? Anyway....

If you guys like this game you will get a laugh out of this:

Greggman.com....arguement about Loco Roco origins

This is a link to a blog from one of the designers of the game, Gregg Tavares. He is an American living in Japan and I have read his blog for a long time....if you are interested in videogames or Japan you should really check it out.

Apparently, someone who helped develop a game called GISH for PC is argueing with Gman in the comments section of his blog about Loco Roco having ripped off GISH for its physics and ideas. Guy totally bashes Sony and all that assorted shit.....check it out....funny as hell.

....I really respect Gman and believe him. He is a very honest guy and I love his attitude.

I believe it doesn't work if you put it in a folder with any name other than UCJS10041.

then i don't know why it works! :lol

its the japanese demo that i'm using.

Holy crap, it really works, with the folder name LOCOROCO. I dunno who told me he tried naming it something other than UCJS10041 and it didn't work, but obviously it's not true.

Edit, tried it, and it also works with folder name LOCOROCO DEMO

That's pretty amazing. If only he could have made it work though USB without hacking the PSP analog nub apart. That's probably not even theoretically possible though.
Yeah, doubt there's any way he could have technically pulled it off any other way. Looks a little unresponsive, too. But does beg the question why Sony hasn't moved ahead with one of their own.

everyone just stfu and play the demo before you bash sony as copycats. if loco roco is a copy of some nintendo game, it is nintendos fault. the whole company has been going down the tubes (ironic huh?) since gamecube came out and sony is taking its place. the PSP, which I am typing this on, has far from failed, and is second to the DS only because most gamers are young.and.cant.play.complex.

In the UK, the Official PSP Guidebook magazine finally came out. It comes with a UMD with playable demos, including one for LocoRoco. Interestingly, it is a different level than the Japanese demo and completely in English. However, the only "preview" I found talking about it (@gamefaqs, no less) said it was horribly inferior the Japanese one, since it lacked some sounds and did not have as catchy a song.
I maybe have someone in Ireland who could send me that - what stores have that magazine with demo?

Oh wow. I didn't know this was Greggman's game. Awesome!

WII RUNS ON PIKMIN, PSP RUNS ON LOCO ROCO.

ONLY ONE CAN WIN.

But seriously, that's kind of cool.

Europe: June 23rd
Japan: Jul 13th
US: Sept. 5th

That is unbelievable. Now I know how the Europeans feel about getting shafted on release dates. :lol

Sony Europe is pushing, or rather going to push this game hard when it comes out. They really want it out on June 30 (the official PAL release date), so the team is really cranking away to finish the game for that date...I'm not exactly sure why it's so important for SCEE, but they need something for the PSP in Europe. They've shipped a very advanced preview code a week back to press around Europe and based on our experiences the game's pretty much final in terms of content and gameplay, but the various languages dont work right etc etc. The second minigame is pretty kick ass and there's a third one that we haven't managed to open yet. The LocoRoco house is pretty simple too, you just build a house for him and watch him go around it :)

Nice touch is the ability to make screenshots and save them to your PHOTO folder. And thus saving the pics to PC.

Also the build your own LocoRoco house is a very nice addition. It's like a level editor in which you can put objects to reach certain goals. Or to just let the LocoRoco's do their thing. It's a bit like the intro of the demo.

These houses can be shared via an ingame function but I dont know if this is possible over the internet.

So the day is set for me to buy a PSP.

I was going to buy a DSLite, but having walked around Glasgow after work looking for "Gitaroo Man" and not getting it I'm inclined to get a PSP because there is so many good games on the platform with gitaroo man coming soon.
