ust a reminder that if you have a Silver account, you won’t have access to free content on the the Marketplace (like demos) when they are first posted. That content will be available to Gold level exclusively for one week, after which Silver members will have access to the free content.

The Fall update has a special message (above) to reflect this as well. If you have a Silver account and you see a piece of content that has a red circle with a slash through it (like the ‘Ryan Industries Plasmids and Gene Tonics’ content above) you’ll have to wait until a week after the content is released to access it.

This is not done to annoy our Silver members—limited time exclusive access to content is just one of the many benefits of having a Gold Xbox Live account.

Great news if it speeds up downloads.

Gold memberships are finally given more justification, apart from being able to play games online of course.

I feel sour about this...although I have Gold

but it happens with every other tier membership...no worse than signing up for a Brazzers trail offer:lol

but thats neither here nor there:D

Fuck this shit, I just got downgraded to a Silver account.

Taking away stuff (even if it's just a delay) from Silver is a poor way to add value to Gold :(. Be more creative.

Ah well, I'll wait until I get gold again somewhere next year.

boo hiss!!!

So content makers put stuff out there to get to as many people as possible but MS delays it for silver?

Demo are made to advertise their game, MS makes some guys wait a week.

Content is timed so it hits XBL and PSN at the same time, XBL Silver members have to wait.

GAH!!!!... MS why are you cutting out things for silver guys instead of including insentives for gold members, you are as crazy as a coconut!

So... they are downgrading Silver users to justify Gold memberships? WTF? Why not just give Gold members premium/faster servers to download from?

Melodrama on GAF...why should I expect anything else?

It's not that big of a deal really. If anything, it gives a few more perks to Gold members. After all, most of you were complaining there were no benefits of Gold other than playing online.

My Gold just died too. I was surprised by it, but apparently I bought the Camera back in 2006, and I guess I must've used the Live card with it shortly thereafter.

At least I have an extra month or two cards from the overly lengthy repair periods I had to sit through.

So instead of waiting a week for something free, you'd rather be forced to pay?

I was being sarcastic. That is basically what I'll be doing when the Ninja Gaiden 2 and Devil May Cry 4 demos hit though.

Seems fair, I don't have a 360 but my girlfriend does, and I was with her when we were downloading the Bioshock demo, it was a mess. If the activity from the nonpaying silver members is interfering with the paying members, then it's a good move for Microsoft, you want to cater to the people who are actually paying you for the service. It's not much different than those file sites that allow paying members to download from faster servers and avoid waiting in lines.

can't say i'm surprised, but as someone else said, i wish they would _add_ value instead of just shuffle some things around.

how about group chat only for gold members or some other feature that's at least new to the 360? how about streaming of internet radio stations for free gold members? something new. what about automatic downloads of like the 1up show or something free for gold users? what about allowing all games to take screenshots and host them as part of your gamertag, if you're a gold user?

although this makes me wonder. it's such a small thing, but is this an attempt to make live seem like more of a value to gold, so that when they eventually make playing games free, there's still some bit of a reason to subscribe?

Demos are FREE advertising for the publishers. Heck, they should even reward the players for downloading the demos.
This is ridiculous.

Count me in as an annoyed silver member. Taking away from the free membership and "giving" to the Gold membership is just going to give more ammo to the free PSN.

I've been a paying member since the inception. Doesn't bother me either way. However, I don't think that they will hold demos hostage that are day and date with the PS3 version. That is too stupid.

I do agree with the people saying to add value to Gold instead of stripping Silver features. Silver XBL owners still shouldn't complain, though.

What I was going to say. They ignore the wishlist of subscribers and just say "Well... Um here you can have this all to yourself for a whole week now"

Why, its not like its affecting the 360 sales of live subscriptions.

If it wasn't the ONLY way to play online 360 games, they wouldn't have my monies. It's called having your audience over a barrel.

Well Microsoft can do whatever they want, I'm still not paying for something that should be free. Drop game prices back to $50 and we can talk :P

It's not like a week wait is going to kill anybody and if it make's the Gold members feel special then that's great.

So let's make sure I have this right:

360's 2nd birthday was last month. For those 2 years, almost all the content was simultaneous. More people are paying for Live than ever before, and instead of investing the money into new, innovative Gold features and more servers/backend enhancements, they introduce an artificial delay which supposedly will lighten the wait for free things, therefore screwing those that MS are trying to get to pay for Gold in the first place.

And you guys are excited about this?

This is a great sentence.

Pricing of games this generation has been a long time coming. That is honestly the last thing I can fault from this generation.
