Major Nelson: How fast is redeeming a code on Xbox One?

I just stole Major's 14 Day XBL Gold Trial....

Hope he isn't salty about it

More like disappointed that it took this long for someone to redeem it.

I've gotten quite proficient at putting in codes with the chatpad over the years but this is certainly a nice little time saver.

dope.

of little practical value for me atm, as I've only redeemed maybe 5 codes all generation. but maybe they'll make more QC code promos? Perhaps on taco bell drink cups and shit like that.

I think that this might be the first kinect functionality that I find genuinely useful. Nice little touch, Microsoft!

I know. Was up to 3 pages before I tried.

Phones can scan the QR but they don't link to the Xbox site and auto populate...yet

Oh man, talk about a woops moment for Microsoft hahaha.

That said, this is really cool! I hope the Playstation Camera does the same thing.

Yo, if I still bought digital goods in an analogue fashion, this would be amazing.

Online store is where it's at, though.

This is convenient though it seems like a feature you should discover through the Kinect setup / tutorial, given that QR scanners are nothing new. Posting it like this seems a little like a desperate attempt for any positive publicity, but you can't begrudge them that at this stage.

You just see things how you want to see them bro.

Kinectimals for the original Kinect scanned codes, too - but they were larger since the resolution wasn't as good. Its just a feature - any camera could do it. But, more features are better than less.

QR codes are just encoded data. So XBL QR codes just have the XBL sub serial number encoded inside of them (based on what you posted). Based on that QR code there is no way for it to automatically go to xbox.com to redeem. To do that it would actually need to have the encoded URL as the actual data.. i.e. http://www.xbox.com/redeem?code=1234-5678-9012-1234-5678

I remember reading about this beforehand, but I have to admit this arguably is enough reason to get a camera with a system... though now I wonder if their apps will do the same thing on phones and tablets?
