Make a new Chrono Trigger dream team

bOp5PLU.jpg

That's the original dream team; Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yuji Horii, and Akira Toriyama. Sakaguchi worked on Final Fantasy games, Horii worked on Dragon Quest games, and Toriyama is the creator of Dragon Ball.

What I want you to do is pick 2 game developers and 1 manga or comic book artist to make a new Chrono Trigger, but they can't be the original 3. They don't have to be the creators of major franchises like Dragon Ball, DQ, and FF or anything, they can just be someone who has worked on something you love. And it doesn't have to be a manga artist, you can pick a Marvel or DC guy or whatever if you want. Also, make sure you write something more than just a list. Give us your reasoning.

My picks

Yasumi Matsuno - I think this guy could come up with a new cool battle system and he seems to have a way with fantasy worlds.

Masahiro Sakurai - I'm not sure if he has much RPG experience, but I think he would be perfect, because he obviously has a ton of respect for classic games and his attention to detail is second to none.

Eiichiro Oda - Creator of One Piece. I also thought about picking the creator of Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto, because I love the attention to detail in his art and I love his drawings of Konoha, but Oda is so good at creating amazing fantasy worlds and has created so many for One Piece. Just take a look at Water 7, Skypiea, and Alabasta.

Not making any suggestions yet, but some western suggestions (comic book creators I guess) would be really interesting to hear.

Takiya Iijima of Last Armageddon fame shall write and produce, Hidenori Shibao (director of Paladin's Quest) shall design and direct, and Yoshitaka Tamaki of Shining Force and FEDA shall do the art. I think a team like this would have fresh ideas but still enough congruity to work together; Iijima's a wizard of storytelling, yet both he and Shibao like to modify the Dragon Quest formula and create idiosyncratic JRPGs; Tamaki just needs more work plain simple, and he's also got directorial experience.

Going with some Western developers: Chris Avellone (Planescape: Torment) as the writer/producer, Winston Douglas Wood (Phantasie series) as the director/designer, and Viktor Antonov (Dishonored) as the artist. Wood's games were fairly popular with Japanese PC users, so pairing him with two other PC-based developers of equal could make for a fresh perspective on a time-traveling adventure.

Artist:
- Masayuki Doi (Shin Megami Tensei)

Developer:
-Kensuke Nakahara from Bravely Default.
-Yoshihiko Maekawa from Super Mario RPG.

It's so hard to assemble a new dream team for Chrono Trigger but this is the list that I could I think of right now.

Akitoshi Kawazu(SaGa series)
Ryoei Mikage(Imageepoch)

Artist:
Yabuki Kentarou so it can get a borderline AO rating

Just trolling.

If it didn't have to be a Chrono Trigger, I'd do a collaboration on a Metrovania between:
Takumi Naramura(La-Mulana)
Humble Hearts(Dust: AET)
Magica Quartet(Madoka Magica)

I just want a Metrovania in the Madoka universe.

Tetsuya Nomura - Chuuni storyline and frantic gameplay.

Ken Levine - Add a twist to the Chunni storyline.

Yoko Shimomura - Add inspirational music for the Chuuni storyline.

Perfect.

Kentaro Miura - Berserk. Darkest JRPG ever !
2 game developers:
Hiroyuki Itoh
Tetsuya Takahashi

I am just waiting for someone to do something with BERSERK i really wish it was the DEVS that made the shadow of mordor game.....that would be bloody amazing

but yeah i like your suggestion

Suda 51
Swery 65

Hirohiko Araki

albeit probably not ideal for Chrono Trigger, anything these three would make together would be god damn absurd to the max.

Yasumi Matsuno
Hidetaka Miyazaki
Kentaro Miura

Don't think i have to explain myself cause if you know, you just know.

I want Yasumi Matsuno to make anything new these days. Crimson Shroud blew way past my expectations.
Preferably with Alexander O. Smith on localization. Those two together are like cake and ice cream.

I'm fairly certain it would be impossible to make a game in the modern day as good as Chrono Trigger but I would say Capybara would be the group I would want to make it, if anyone.

Nomura or Amano - Art
Hidetaka Miyazaki and whoever did the stories for Persona 3 and 4 - 2 devs
Yoko Shimomura - music

But if I really have to pick a manga artist, then Yabuki Kentaro, the creator of the To Love-Ru series.

A wacky erotic adventure in a decrepit world full of undead creatures and abominations. Gun be gud.

I feel like most Japanese RPGs are just about graphics now. The dream team of today is not comprised of imagineers, but instead a bunch of CG artists and engineers.

Writer/Artist: Araki - I love One Piece to death, but I love Araki's style and dumb plots. Plus...
Director: Kamiya - Kamiya + Araki is a match made in heaven. ORAORAORA
Producer: Sakurai - Pack it full of extras! As many extras as is humanly possible!

Rieko Kodama (Phantasy Star) and Yoshiharu Gotanda (Valkyrie Profle) as director/producers

Satoshi Urushihara (Langrisser) as artist

Yuzo Koshiro as musician

Quite the contrary. Japanese games in general are lacking behind the western counterpart in their game's graphics these days, at least in terms of fidelity.

Keiichiro Toyama (Gravity Rush, Silent Hill, Siren)
Shoji Meguro (Hey, he's directed before! But mostly, he'll give it an awesome soundtrack)
Junji Ito (Uzumaki & other bizarre horror manga)

Probably would be nothing like CT1, but would definitely be unique. :)

All of you people choosing Yoko Shimomura over Yasunori Mitsuda... For shame. Give how memorable the music was for both Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger, there's no other reason to give the composer spot to anyone else other than the original composer. If you had to choose someone else though... I think Yoko Kanno would be a much better fit to match that taste.

Irony calling someone who rocks a FF15 character as avatar to have great taste when you hated the game which that character belongs to. :P
I never said I hated, just wasn't interested in playing the game, specially only with noctis. Anyway you are my first stalker? I feel honored.

Artist: Tsutomu Nihei. Amazing art. I love his style even though figuring out plot details of his manga can be...problematic.

Jen Zee of Supergiant as assistant artist.

Designer: Chris Avellone and Tomoyoshi Miyazaki. Black Isle and Quintet. Wanted to add J.E. Sawyer but it was a tough call.

troll option: Takeshi Kitano as surprise 3rd designer.

Wut!? The only and one composer allowed to work on the Chrono series is obviously Mitsuda, get your facts straight!

Oh I guess I didn't pay attention to the thread. I thought that was to make my new "dream team" =P

New Chrono Trigger Team would be:

Directors: Hiroyuki Ito + Matsuno
Character Design: Eiichiro Oda.

Yasumi Matsuno
Hidetaka Miyazaki
Kentaro Miura

Don't think i have to explain myself cause if you know, you just know.

Fucking done.

Miyazaki designs the game. Matsuno writes the characters and the lore. Miura designs what it all looks like. Shit, all three of them could have input regarding the lore.

Edit: Are we even talking about a Chrono Trigger 2, or just a similar dream team for an RPG period?

Just the other day I was thinking about how cool it would be for Eichiro Oda to be involved in a jrpg that had nothing to do with One Piece. Combined with the right people, I'm sure it could give something really creative and colourful.

I liked ToLoveRu... until Yabuki veered hard into lolicon territory while relying on the same harem schtick of spineless MC inexplicably gets wome attracted to him. The only reason I pay some attention to it is the excellent art... that's not of the pre-pubescent girls.

If there's any series Yabuki deserves to work on, it's High School DxD, in which the MC
actually DOES get together with the harem - in the middle of the series no less.
The story is better and easily justifies womens' attraction to him. Read the novels, though. The anime goes into fanservice overload.

I'd like to see one of the Dark Souls masterminds design a turn-based RPG with the depth and challenge of Dark Souls.

Director: whoever directed Hyperdimension Neptunia
Story: Gen Urobuchi
Character design: Tony Taka
Music: AKB48

Character design: Tony Taka
I would post a vulgar computer reaction image for this, but I don't want to get banned from NeoGAF. Taka needs more high-profile work for someone of his talent.

Seeing Urobutcher work on a JRPG Fantasy would instantly elevate it above almost everything else in the genre. Just as long as he actually pens the entire series *cough*AldnoahZero*cough*.
