The public defenders are just as much a part of the system as the prosecutors and police officers.
Public Defenders? Try defense lawyers in general. What, you think they don't get paid if you go to jail? The entire judicial system is little more than an elaborate swindle. It's kinda hilarious when you realize how screwed you are if you ever get thrown into that mess.

Also this thread is funny, you can pretty much tell who is and isn't American by whether or not they believe something like this can happen.

If you're 25 and they're 16, then yeah. But if the child is under say 13, you should probably not be talking to them anyway if you're that old.
what about message boards like gaf? we assume people are over 13 but i bet there is a bunch of kids under 13 that post here. are those 25 yr old people bad for talking to people on here they think are a certain age? what if those kids then start participating in a sex thread on ot? would canadian gaf members be liable to go jail for making comments to that user even though they didn't know they were really young?

When downloading something from the internet, you're basically making an assumption. You're assuming that the content provider is providing you with the file they have described and that it hasn't been tampered with in any way.

That Uprising_Muse.mp3 could have started out as 12yohardcore.jpg for all you know. Until you've downloaded it, you have no way to check its authenticity.

I just read somewhere... and I really hope this isn't true cuz this is just insane...

Canada is making it so it's illegal or criminal activity for any reason an adult talks to a minor on the internet. Even if the conversation is non-sexual or not asking them to meet you somewhere for whatever, it's still suspicious activity.

If they can somehow track everyone who downloads it they can subpoena records to find out who uploaded it.
Doesn't work like that. I'm assuming most CP is uploaded to secure/encrypted networks, and not just randomly on the internet, which then leaks onto P2P like most things. The only ways to find them are the ways I listed really, or, by accident.

It seems an awful lot of people are, here in the UK too. This irrational hysteria must have been whipped up by the media as I see no concrete reasons to believe that the dangers to children from sexual predators have increased or that the nature of the predator has changed.

In an overwhelming number of child abuse cases the offender is known to the victim. Why don't we just find everyone that knows a child and execute them. It's the only way to be sure. That or encase children in concrete Either of those options seems to make as much sense as the cornucopia of proposed ridiculous laws tackling child abuse.

But what if everyone knowing a child is executed and the children grow up and become adults? We should really prevent them from sexually abusing their innocent past selves.

The first few results in limewire were almost always fake files where I assume a script of some sort is used to automatically give you a result for a file name of the exact thing you searched for. I used the program once while in college and got rid of it because it was a waste of time.

I can't believe how fucked up some of these situations are. It just pisses me off to a degree I can't even convey in words. Peoples lives are being ruined for bullshit reasons.

This kind of sounds like a weird question, but is there a set age at which pictures of children go from being acceptable to being child porn? I mean, I think the rules about going from adolescent to adult are pretty well set, but you see pictures of naked babies on TV all the time. When does it go from acceptable naked-baby-in-a-diaper-commercial to being a punishable offense?

Because those commercials aren't meant to be pornography. If you watch American Beauty, you see the (fat) girl's boobs, and guess what... she's 16! The pictures / video have to not represent pr0n, which the commercial nor American Beauty are trying to be. But if you download pics / videos of underage people that are in sexual positions, then you would be in trouble

At least here in Sweden it depends on the nature of the picture. If it's sexually provokable is sexual in it's nature it' strictly forbidden. If it's not, for example diaper commercials and normal baby photos it's fine. At least that's how i think it is.

In the US, it is anything under 18 years old, and the burden of proof falls on the defendant to prove the picture is of somebody of legal age. People have gone to prison for porn stars that were 18+ but looked younger.

For younger situations like in commercials, that's kind of a thin line. It usually comes down to sexual or not, but there seem to be enough exceptions to burn people regardless.

The list has been updated. Stop Canadian fascism before it's too late.

Perhaps looking at a child should be illegal too. I mean, what possible reason could an adult have for looking at a child that isn't their own unless it is for the purposes of imagined sexually exploitative acts?

In fact, you shouldn't really be within 50 feet of a child that isn't your own.
I heard about a survey in the UK that asked if people would approach a lost child on the street and help them find their parents or a police officer. The majority of people said they would not for fear of being accused of trying to lure or molest them. smh humanity.

Sucks for the guy. I've stumbled across stuff that looked like cp before by accident. I think I was searching for "shaved" girls, because I was tired of seeing bush, and one of the links brought me to a big page full of loli sites. It was one of those aggressive pop-up porn pages, so it spawned a few different windows. Easily one of the most horrifying moments of my life. I cleared my history and deleted my cache right away, but it's gross to think about the thumbs still being stored somewhere in hidden memory land.

IF that stuff was real (I've heard that a lot of the loli girls are actually over 18, but they just look really young), then it's a lot easier to stumble across that shit than people think.

It's been a while, but ever download something in the pre-bitorrent P2P days? The files are not labeled accurately at all. You could download something thinking it's a hot 22 year old girl, and it turns out to be horse/dog sex or something involving an obese person and fecal matter.
