The first hour of Donner Superman is absolutely majestic. Brando as Jor-El is the fucking bomb and I don't care if he did want to play it as a floating bagel or talking suitcase

Crazy. Donnor's (one and a half) Superman films are pretty damn great, not just as superhero movies, but as films in general, which is the highest praise I can give to a film of that genre.
What didn't you like about them?

Enjoy for what it is. We wouldn't probably even have modern superhero films if we didn't have the original Superman.

Never saw the movie, but the Watchmen trailer was so good, hopefully this one can be awesome as well.
Isn't he just moving them above his head, doing the classic superman flying pose?

I think the first half (maybe third - whatever covered the origin) of the first one was great, after that I couldn't get into them.
Which plot hole?
Supes going back in time to save Lois by spinning around the Earth. Only problem is that Jimmy met Supes like before in the previous timeline... Which doesn't make sense.

It feels pretty good to be bad some times.
I didn't like it at all, for a lot of reasons. Who ever cast Margo Kitter should have been fired and never allowed to work in Hollywood again. She's just really bad, and annoying. Reeves for me just never looked the part. Specially in the first movie he always felt too skinny to me, as did Routh in Returns. I don't like that version of Lex (I know it was Lex at the time) just not interesting. I don't like the crystals, and their look for everything Kryptonian. I know the comics keep going back to this, but I don't like it. I get why they did it for this movie, and all that, I'm just not a fan of the design choice. Superman causing the Earth to spin backwards to reverse time, just no. That leads me to a HUGE problem I have with Superman stories in general, stop fucking inventing new powers for him! *edit* there were more reasons, but it's been a long time since I watched the movie(s) so they're not all at the top of my head right now.
I will say the Score for the movie was awesome though.
I love the character, and I think his surrounding cast, and him can be amazing when handled right. The problem is most writers don't understand the character(s), their relationships, and when they get caught in a writing jam they just invent some new power mcguffen for him to solve the day. It drives me crazy. I started reading comics in the mid 80's and Superman is one of the few characters that I've read almost consistently since then.
If the rules of causality cannot be violated then Superman didn't just travel back in time, he tunneled through to an alternate reality, an adjacent universe where almost everything was identical. Except Jimmy. He didn't violate causality because in that universe, he showed up before those events happened and prevented them. So there would still be oddities and Superman would know it wasn't the real Lois, but better than none. Hence his rage and tears even as he reaches the speeds he needs to.

The whole aspect of superman is hokey for me, and we watched Christopher Reeves movies just for shits and giggles. Superman Returns was the biggest pile of dogshit I've seen.
Only reason why I'm barely interested in this is because of Nolan's involvement and my man Russell Crowe. The teaser looked OK.
