No... Just, no.

Yes... Just,yes.

The character is big and barrel chested, from the first time he's ever drawn it's been this way. Reeves was neither of those things.

He didn't do that. He flew fast enough to travel backwards in time, thats why the Earth looks like its rotating backwards

Either way, it was lame, and didn't work, and not a power Superman has.

Reeves for me just never looked the part.

the guy was 6' 4" and was 220-something pounds of muscle. When people think of Superman they still think of Chris.

Look at how wide his neck was, dude was swole.

And that lycra suit hides nothing. Unlike the padded, vein-laced suit Cavill's wearing (I know he's jacked)

Yeah, I mean Cavill looks like the toughest Superman to date, but let's be real here: Chris was a friggin' machine in terms of fitness and size. Any bigger and he would've started looking like a wrestler or something.

You're officially trolling now.

No I'm not.

Are you trying to say Reeves isn't skinny and that he has broad shoulders?

At least I can state why he doesn't look the part for me as opposed to just posting a photo and a question mark.

Superman should have an imposing physique, something closer to what Chris Hemsworth had going on in Thor. Don't even try to say Reeves had a similar body to him. It's not even close.

I think for most of you, they could throw anyone who was skinny and had a spit curl into the suit and it'd look the part for you.

If the rules of causality cannot be violated then Superman didn't just travel back in time, he tunneled through to an alternate reality, an adjacent universe where almost everything was identical. Except Jimmy. He didn't violate causality because in that universe, he showed up before those events happened and prevented them. So there would still be oddities and Superman would know it wasn't the real Lois, but better than none. Hence his rage and tears even as he reaches the speeds he needs to.

Bam.

This thread has gone full-on weird with people criticizing Christopher Reeve's Superman and now posting random gifs in anticipation of the trailer. Wow...haha.

I'm excited to see what Cavill does with the role, but there's no doubt that no one will ever top Reeve. Mainly because he nailed both roles of Superman and Clark Kent.

Yes. I posted about his size in my posts on this very page.

This, is skinny.

This is what the world thinks Superman looks like.

Chris Reeve was, again, 6 foot four inches of muscle. Someone like Hemsworth would've looked like a pro wrestler in that suit and stupid in the Clark Kent getup. This is coming from a ugy who's really excited to see a tougher looking Superman in Man of Steel, too, but c'mon. Reeve WAS Superman.

Christoper Reeves was the perfect Superman it's just a shame that the films were all terrible (Well I guess Superman 2 is ok) and worse yet they somehow influenced the comics to make them terrible. It wasn't until very recently that Grant Morrison started giving a fresh take on Superman.

I don't understand why Lex Luthor is constantly wearing wigs and is some sleezy real estate swindler or why they had to make up charecters like SunMan and whatever the fuck was going on in Superman 3 rather than actually base it off the comics.

The first two movies were great, it's the third and fourth that are absolutely wretched. And the reason they didn't stick closer to the comics is because the producers, and owners of the property rights at the time, didn't know shit about comics. The Salkinds just saw it as a great money maker.

We should do a Superman rewatch thread to lead up to the Man of Steel.

I have the Adventures of Superman cartoon sets from the 90's. Never seen them, but I'm waiting to start watching them leading up to the Man of Steel.

The 90s cartoon Timm & Dini did was pretty spectacular. A bit shy of the perfection Batman was at the time, but it actually accomplished one thing the Batman show never did: continuity.

The entire show built into a really strong finale- the best for any super hero show imo.

Reeves has such a charmismatic presence, and the music just makes it magic. Routh, however, had the charisma of wet flannel

I dug Routh and what he did with the role. He was a bit younger than he should have been, but otherwise I think he made some scenes pretty excellent, particularly his Clark Kent. He nailed this.
