Man's best friend (warning, very sad)

Goddammit, why did I watch the last minutes with Oden. I'm fucking crying my eye's out here, I've never cried before watching a video on the internet.

This sucks, I fear the day when I'll have to do the same with my dog.

That was very sad, but the happy video on the first page was a nice palette cleanser. We should do that every thread.

Holy shit.

I was delivering mail, took a break and then watched that Oden video. I had to take the rest of my mail back and take vacation. What a tearjerker. Fucking Marley times 10 knowing that syringe was the real deal.

I'm not trying to promote tearjerking porn, but there was a big case on illegal dog breeds this summer here in Denmark. If you scroll down to the 2nd video it shows how a vet has to sedate and then put down 19 perfectly healthy puppies. In the end she breaks down.

As she says herself by the end, 'I love my job, but not today'. I don't think I could do it. It was my childhood dream to become a vet, but now I'm glad I didn't become one.
 
It's terribly sad and all but let's remember that this guy signed up to put his life in danger. It's not like some tragedy that struck this totally innocent dude. He signed up to kill people and he got killed in the process. Sucks for the dog though :(

Saw this in the Man's Best Friend (doggy) thread. Sad.

I've just brought my pooch home from the vet. He's dosed up and looking very sad but he's staring straight at me.

There's nothing heroic about either beeing part of the Navy seals or beeing part of the "commando" that killed an unarmed man.

We definitely don't have the same definition of what constitutes a "Hero".

yorkshire terriers are really great smallish dogs. try and find one not so lame though. also, cocker spaniels don't grow too larger and are excellent companions too.

I sometimes think we attribute human characteristics to animals when it's really just our imagination. But at the same time, you can't look at that picture in the OP without saying "damn, that dog knows its best friend is gone forever."

Yeah this story is really a testament.

In my experience, the dogs I know and been around empathize with me and my feelings much more than any other animal I've been around. Cats crave attention or will leave you alone, and are generally to themselves and for their own enjoyment. But a dog will sense that you're having a bad day or just not in your normal mood and will lie beside your feet in silence just to comfort, or lick at your feet and legs to try to cheer you up.

I can honestly say that I believe dogs make friends with humans, whereas any other animal might just live with them as caretakers and merely pets.
 
I've seen the Oden video and I refuse to watch it again. That had me depressed for days. I went home and gave my dog the biggest hug ever. Having a dog is so great

Traditionally my mom always had a Yorkshire terrier and so i grew up with that type of breed. Generally i would say they are quiet dogs in the house and not too boistures like other breeds such as Staffordshire bull terriers. Also they do have quite a temper on them and are very fiesty dogs.

My dog is fucking amazing and if anything happened to him I'd probably break down. It's somewhat heartwarming to know that it's reciprocated.

Sure, I can do that. IMO this is sensationalist journalism. Dog lies down at funeral. I highly doubt he recognized his previous owner's scent on his dehydrated corpse that is shut in a casket many feet above the ground. Again, truly not trying to derail or offend people.
 
yes dogs are loyal, but only if you maintain your size. if you're hit by a shrink ray and suddenly find yourselves the size of a small mouse, how many of you dog owners would confidently stand in front of your "best friend" then, huh? because they'll eat you without a second thought.

He says you don't have to be a hero to shoot someone unarmed, who the unarmed person is does not matter.

There is no risk to yourself when shooting someone who is unarmed, nothing more nothing less.
You are partaking in the derailment yourself.

A hero is someone who puts themselves in harms way to protect someone.

Dogs are pack animals that mesh very well with humans and accept them into their pack. I know for a fact that dogs get "sad" when one of their pack dies, I've seen it with my own dogs and all of the dogs in my family. It's just how they are. Something isn't right when they lose a pack member and they know when they die and when they are just gone for a bit.

So Jonas Salk isn't a hero despite being responsible for saving the lives of millions just because he didn't need to be on a battlefield in order to save those lives?

but at the same time dogs dont understand friendship and people confuse it with pack animal mentality

If you murdered someone, lost your home, were living on the street, were being attacked by an angry mob, and had the plague, dogs are the only animals that would still love you.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I'll try and slyly run it by her and see if she likes cocker spaniels(since I'm trying to surprise her with a pet; she's been saying how much she misses her parents farm, where they have tons of dogs and cats) without spoiling that I'm going to get her a dog.

I'd love to see her face when I come home with one!
