Oh c'mon. This will be the same as The Last Samurai which was the same as Shogun. The only difference being this this one is set in Yuan Dynasty China.

I'll confess in shame that I haven't seen as many of the films in their entirety as I would like, but that I did what I had to pass a class.

Oh, they're really great. Actually, you should re-watch them and compare them to Zhang Yimou films. Farewell, My Concubine and To Live are companion pieces as are The Emperor and the Assassin and Hero. The paired films represent the same thing, but from different angles. While To Live is my favorite, I have to admit I think Chen Kaige is better overall - Zhang Yimou is too forgiving of Mao and some of his later pieces come across as propaganda films (Hero and The Flowers of War specifically).

I actually asked my college professor if Marco Polo actually did go to China a couple of days ago (we were discussing him in class), he said that he almost certainly did.
