Neither. A sequel to any one of those would be the last nail in Mario's coffin for me. I want a sense of adventure and wonder in my Mario games again. Mario 64 and Sunshine nailed tone more than any Mario game has since.
Where the modern Mario games feel more like a mismatch of cool levels, Sunshine and 64 rewarded progress with actual exploration and a central cohesive theme. It felt in some ways more "open-world" and I loved them for it.
So yeah, option D in the style of C
