Buff the star speed. Finally saw the light after using bikes.
Nerf the boomerang range a bit.
Go back to mk7's fire flower.( Only 3 fireballs out at a time)
Give first mushrooms.
Give the Phirana plant a warning indicator(Why it doesn't have one already is baffling)

If you're buffing the star speed make them non-firehoppable somehow. Otherwise the disparity between bikes and karts would become even bigger.
