Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

Advertising doesn't really have anything to do with Nintendo Direct.

I can easily see Nintendo assuming a Nintendo Direct would work so well that they wouldn't need to do anymore cause everyone already knows about Mario Kart. Deciding they don't have to advertise. Don't have to put in the marketing work to make this release an event and make people at large believe they should be playing this game or missing out on something specially. They've not done that at all with any game for the Wii U. They never did that for the system. That's my fear here. If not having a Nintendo Direct helps push them in the direction of mainstream, prime time, multiple channels and demographic TV advertising I'd rather take that.

From a Belgian blogger who apparently got his hands on the “new demo”:
• 32 tracks in the game (16 new, 16 retro) https://twitter.com/PlaneteNintendo/...78564100653056
• The new demo only gives access to 16 of these tracks, but it has all items, characters, and includes Mario Kart TV mode https://twitter.com/PlaneteNintendo/...20293230764032
• There are 2 brand new items in Mario Kart 8 https://twitter.com/PlaneteNintendo/...31887050403840
• The game runs at 60fps with 1/2 players, 30fps with 3/4 players (no info about 5 players so maybe it's not even available at all) https://twitter.com/PlaneteNintendo/...93106780229632
• More information will be officially revealed at some time next week, possibly Thrusday

Wasn't it obvious that there was 32 tracks? Like in every game

Also hope that not all characters have been revealed. Would love some more at least.

If that's true, it's a shame it's only 30fps in 3/4 player but I guess it's understandable, weirdly though it does make Double Dash the only console iteration that's always 60fps.

*makes extremely vague predictions that are likely true and then takes credit*

lol ok...

I'm excited for the rumored media coverage. Maybe they are being told to release same day as direct. Maybe direct next week?

Wouldn't it make mor sense to decrease the amount of details? I doubt I could catch everything in 4 splitscreen.

That's what Mario Kart Wii did (lesser quality textures in splitscreen and removed effects, such as the big TVs on DK's Snowboard Cross/GCN Waluigi Stadium that are disabled) but it still ran at 30fps. For some reason however Double Dash is the only console Mario Kart that ran at 60fps even with 4 players.

Links are dead already lol.

I don't remember Mario Kart Wii running very well at all in splitscreen.

It would seem to dip below 30fps at times.

He probably failed the copy-paste, the tweets are still there on the account

I believe it was 25fps if you had PAL 50HZ selected in the video settings, but otherwise it was definitely 30fps with the setting called “480P EDTV HDTV” (only accessible when using component cables).

I'm still holding out hope for the dream of a track editor for MK8 on the GamePad despite knowing keep in my heart Nintendo would probably never do it. They'd use the excuse that they wouldn't want their online flooded with custom tracks that "don't meet the high Nintendo standard of quality" or something along those lines. Although I guess Brawl did have a "stage editor" of sorts, albeit a pretty barebones/poor one.

was probably answered within this thread but is there online multiplayer in mario kart 8 or only local?

mario kart seems to be headed up by the one man in nintendo who values online play. They've had online for 4 games now, counting this one.

Holy crap that means that half of all mario kart games ever have now had online. Time flies.

Double Dash and MKWii cut the framerate in half for split screen with three or more players.

Double Dash disabled a lot of the visual frills on the tracks too.

2 people above said Double Dash was the only one to run at 60 fps all the time
which is it guys >_>

They just need a big Mario Kart 8 Nintendo Direct talking about new features/items/tracks and stuff. It's getting to be about that time.

Crazy speculation, but I still think we're gonna see Monita as a secret character and a Nintendo-Land themed circuit.

Its been a while since I've done double dash split screen with more than just my sister, so they're probably right.

Didn't actually see their posts when I replied.

I'm still hoping on a confirmation on 5-player. I don't know, maybe I'm dreaming to think that someone using the Gamepad as the fifth screen is possible and/or practical. :(

Well, the info doesnt imply that all characters have been revealed, rather, all the characters are in this new demo. I guess you could argue, since it says all items, then mentions theres also two new ones, that it should mention new characters, after saying all characters are in the demo. They still could be wating to reveal more, to the press/everyone else, since this is still a demo, and doesn't include everything.

If true, that new info is coming Thursday, I wonder if it will be revealed only by the press, or also via a ND.

The GBA VC launches this Thursday, as well as that f2p baseball game, for the 3ds.

Aren't Directs usually on a Thursday? We could be getting a smaller direct, to remind people to buy their stuff, and some new info on MK, ect..

I wish Nintendo could Putin 64 levels instead of the measly 32, we are getting to a point where the each old installment of Mario Kart only has 1-2 levels in retro part :/

It is a shame that they tend to put the least priority on the SNES/GBA tracks too...I can understand given that they are flat, but they tend to be among my favourites due to their tight design.

Didn't Sonic transformed do it? Strange that they haven't announced it but at this point I'd brace for disappointment.

It still amazes me how Double Dash looks so much better than Mario Kart Wii. No bloom, better colors, faster, and 60fps even in 4 player multi. Also has that awesome lan-mode which I still play with my friends.

4 players and not 5 players possibly confirmed???

But... But Sonic Racing Transformed managed 5! I'd prefer a solid 6 with friends but I'll what I can get. 4 players would just seem such a downgrade especially after many 5-player Wii U games.

Sonic's frame rate is bad even with 1 person. Never mind 5.

Have they said anything about being able to play online mode with a guest (like you can in MKWii) yet?
That's the best thing about MKWii

Well yea, it makes sense like that. I do love them a lot due to the tight turns making it drift heaven.
