Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

Has this been discussed? That's the fastest Lakitu save I've ever seen. Kind of changes the relative risks of falling. And even the item is retained.

Yeah no more load times and fast recovery so you don't lose your position too much. It's awesome.

As I mentioned before, I had this same issue but then today I tried the DKCTF demo on the same TV and it looked just as rough and jaggy. I'm pretty sure an extremely cheap old TV with poor settings is being commonly used for these demo stations.

Didn't read that, sorry. Good to hear though. I'm not to worried, I have a 28-inch at home, I just had the realisation that the visuals aren't that Michelango some people thought they were.

I have mixed feelings about lakitu being so fast.
With the change on the items and lakitu, It feels like they don't want to punish players.
But overall, it's a fun and beautiful game, I love it!

I can't wait!!1!!11!
: )

Oh wow, thats awful.

You think? I love the change. The time loss in Mario Kart for falling has always been way too harsh in my mind. If you were playing against competent people, it made catching up incredibly difficult even with last place items.

A racing game should be fast paced and active. Fading to black at any point while playing has never made sense.

Why? Less frustration. You lose coins and don't get a boost but you retain your item. I agree that it's balanced. You lose something but you feel frustrated because you're on the track quicker.

What is this boost you guys keep talking about, theres no such a thing when you get Lakitu'ed, did I miss something in my 20 or so years of MKing?, that or is it something introduced in 7 (the only one I really havent 'played'). Anyways, the point is a fall should be punished alot harder, else it just seems meaningless.

Err when you press the drive button right before you land after lakitu drops you, you got a speed boost. That's always been around...Or atlease past mk64.

As said, if you time it right and accelerate right when you land, you get a mini boost.

It certainly helped a bit after that terrible feeling of falling off the edge. I could never pull it off every time though.

It's been around for a while. It was certainly there in MK Wii.

omg this is some mindblowing stuff, the hell?, I'm gonna try it tonight, MK64 doesnt have this right?.

Mario Kart 64 DOES have this. It's just slightly more subtle than MK Wii. In 64 there are no flames out the back of your kart; you just basically accelerate instantly to full speed.

Don't feel bad, I just discovered last week that you can get items quicker by pressing the item button at the correct time and that's apparently been the case since the SNES days :{

Did you guys know that if you press up when entering water from a jump, it makes you go faster?

Bowser is gorgeous in HD.

what is this? the invasion of Mario Kart NOOBS?

Like.. seriously.
Please tell me you guys knew about pressing the acceleration button repeatedly while still in the air after a hit (blue shell, red shell, trucks, bomb, snowman, etc) makes the recover almost instant in Mario Kart 64.

I knew this since I was 8.

And with that all the cups are up woo.

Also cut them some slack. It's easy to miss some important things lol. Some still don't know about stand still miniturbos in mkw.

How the hell do you play Mario Kart for 20 years and don't know about Lakitu Boosts or spamming the item button to get an item faster? Are you as bad as IGN that don't even know how to drift properly?

I didn't know this, assuming it applies back through the SNES days.

I thought I'd played a good bit of Mario Kart in various games, but I didn't know about this either, unless you mean the thing that's been around for a long time (mash A or whatever repeatedly and the item will stop spinning immediately instead of later). *edit* Oh, someone else mentioned spamming the button instead of pressing it at a certain time, so this does sound different than the starting line/Lakitu speed boosts.

If there's some specific timing to get the item immediately, I didn't know that.

Oh dear god, we need to just start a separate thread called "Shocking Mario Kart Facts" and be done with it :{

Don't feel bad. Mario Kart has a lot of little things that most people don't know about :p For another example, if you make a bobbing motion when using the glider, you actually go faster in the air.

Pressing the button a second after the item wheel starts rolling stops it but it's easier to just spam the button lol.

I've played every MK since 64 other than 7 and I'm super sad that I've never realised this.

What the hell. You guys have literally blown my mind, HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS?!

playing a online quickie before going to work, or just when you're about to go to bed is gonna be so damn good. This game's lasting appeal will be eternal in my house
