Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

Andre just confirmed that you can't turn off the timer for Battle Mode -_-

Max time is 5 minutes, minimum is 1 minute.

Battle Mode seems super weak all around. I don't know why it's so hard for them to make a good one again.

Well it makes sense. There definitely would be douchebags who would not do anything and just camp which will make the game last forever. The ghosts thing can only do one hit right?

Should be allowed to disable it when playing with friends though.
 
Just remake the n64 stages. ;_;

Having a forced timer when the maps are all open race tracks is going to lead to a lot of running away.

It would make sense if infinite time/no time was an option but it's not an option. If I was concerned about campers, yeah I would turn the timer on but if I was intending to play with friends? It would be off. The omission of no time is stupid.

And the whole problem about campers wouldn't even be an issue if they weren't using the racing tracks but... they are =\

It is like they forgot battle mode existed and said "Oh right, we gotta make this mode. Oh shit we only have two months of dev time left!" and produced what we see here.
 
For anyone who didn't know, character weights (which Andre was unsure of) are listed on the website. Mii does change based on size.

The bike drifting gets me excited!

That isn't an excuse for not having any battle arena tracks.
 
I'm officially not touching battle mode this time around. I knew they would half assed something.
To me that's not a reason to boycott battle mode.

I'm just disappointed by the lack of any new and retro battle arena tracks. They could have made some really creative stuff with the anti-gravity but they're probably thinking that since they've worked hard on what the core of the game is, they choose to just be lazy with battle mode.

I'll still play battle mode but the fact that they don't even bother to add any battle arena tracks whatsoever is just mind boggling. The time limit thing I can probably live with.

I'll only miss the SNES battle arena. All the other ones has always been crap anyway. Fort Block is okay though. But an asymetrical mode like Cops & Thief or something could have been really cool.

Unless you assume that they got every single thing they wanted into the game, they had to not include some stuff, and I imagine all new battle arenas was pretty low on the list.

Why are there piranha plants in sweet sweet canyon? They should call it "killer plant canyon" instead.

Hey NateDrake, could you please tell me all of the Single-Player Vs. options? For example, I take it I can pick a single course and race against a full field of CPU with items on, right? Can I set the CPU level? The speed (50cc, 100cc, 150cc)? Can I set course selection to Random? Please tell me all of the options in Single-Player Vs! :-)

Race Count: 3 up to 32.
 
I don't get it either. It's one step forward and two steps back. Ugh. I have no reason to touch that mode now, unless they patch it.

Eh... Online battle mode has always had a timer, though, so that's not really a step back. In Mario Kart 7 you only had 2 minutes, so it's actually a small step forward. The only step back MIGHT be that there aren't arenas, but we don't know if that's a bad thing or not yet. Changing it back to once you are out you are out is DEFINITELY a step forward, though.

They removed coin runners thought so and that's a huge step backwards. I actually enjoyed that a lot more than balloon battle.

This actually happened to me in a game of Steel Diver. It was down to me and one other guy vs. another guy and suddenly the guy on my team turns and kills me and then him and our opponent just sit there looking at each other for like 10 minutes before I turned the game off.

A shame they got rid of the 99999vr limit but it's nice to see we're able to pick the vr range.
 
I really don't understand why they couldn't implement Smash Bros style item customization. The *insert item* only formula really isn't what I wanted at all. I thought it wasn't a good idea in MK7 and them bringing it back here is disappointing. I'd rather have the strategic, balanced, etc. settings from Wii back.

This is awesome. It's odd they make you choose at least three courses, but you can always pick the course you want to play first and simply quit after so it's no big deal. So pleased with this news! And I can totally see myself doing a 32-course random circuit, something I really enjoyed in MKDS.
