Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

It looks like I have enough time left for 1 more video. Final requests!

Wario in Wario Stadium riding one of them harley looking bikes(with the exhaust that rises up on the back)?

Just throwing it out there. Seen so much footage already, its tough to pick.

Does anyone know if you can plug in a headset (or iPhone headphones with a speaker) into the GamePad like you can in other Wii U games with voice chat (e.g. CoD)?

Yeah, I would also like to know this. I would much rather talk through the headset ( and hear others through it ) rather than through the GamePad mic.

Perfect

Now I only need confirmation for unlocking new stuff working on 4P championship and we are set.
I remember hearing someone say that there was 4P GP but no confirmation on whether you can essentially team race and unlock things together. I didn't hear anything about what the next post I quoted states, but I haven't been looking very hard. If a community coin pool is true... then you could unlock things even from only playing VS. and Battle Mode, although for me the main thing is the trudge to unlock 150cc across all the maps.

Not sure what you mean...Do you mean that all the coins collected by all the players go into a community pool to unlock new things? That has been confirmed, but I can't remember where...

More videos. Thank you all.

In previous games where you could play the GP mode with multiple players, you could unlock characters and such exactly as normal.
Worst case scenario : only the player associated with the NNID the game is played on gets its coins added towards the total count, in which it's the same thing as playing the game alone anyway. You shouldn't be worried too much about this.

In the racing games for wii I always used the wii mote and i found it very responsive. In MK8 how is the wiimote vs. Wii U gamepad? Which is better?

Has anyone confirmed if you can have different weight classes for your Mii? All the videos I've seen only show what looks like lightweights.

Think I asked this before but I'm not sure if I got an answer or not. Is it possible to do Grand Prix online with friends? I know you can do it locally, just wondering about online.

Thank you for the links.

Basically, 4P GP from the beginning even if it doesn't unlock stuff makes this a co-op game. Without it, it's mostly a VS game (although I was happy to see the Team options in MKWii). Being able to unlock stuff is icing on the cake, but I much prefer to unlock stuff with a co-op feeling than from single player only. MKDS was the last time I was excited enough about a MK game to play it a ton single player; MKWii quickly became multiplayer only (I'm not sure if I even bothered unlocking every Grand Prix for 150cc) and I completely skipped MK7. I am only finding out now that track design and kart differences/viability had started to get better when they added gliders and underwater sections. a number of the tracks I've seen in MK8 now impress me with route options that make even off-road tires useful at times, anti-grav collision boosting that makes weight even more of a consideration, and track design that reminds me more of Crash Team Racing than any previous Mario Kart. So I'm excited, but if I can't immediately sit down with friends, play GP together, and unlock stuff all at once I'll end up a bit tempered with my excitement. It's not a deal breaker on whether or not I'll have fun with the game, but more of an issue of how much trudge I'll have to deal with solo in addition to the multiplayer fun.

I'm generally a co-op maniac and even refuse to play Tales games alone.

Did people argue that? I thought it worked great in MK Wii, but shaking it to do tricks and wheelies made it hard for me to keep a straight line, so I prefer the Wiimote+Nunchuk.
Wii Wheel was my prefered method for most of my time in MKWii, but it was rough on certain tracks if you had to trick too often. As I fell out of practice with the game in the years after I had to switch to Nunchuck. MK8 also feels so very trick centric on certain tracks (the new Wario track springs to mind) that I'm considering going to Nunchuck straight from the beginning. Although if I could get my hands on a Red Wii Wheel...

I kept going "Fuuuuunky!" every time his wheels left the ground for more than a second.

Wife took me to the mall this morning where i got through the nightmare to go into every clothing store in it.
I suggested we go in the big electronics chain store in it (so i can get a gadget fix before we continue) and there was a MK8 playable demo.

At first i thought i'd never get to play a round considering there was a small army of kids around it, but about 10 minutes later one of them asked that creepy old bearded man standing next to the screen and smiling like an idiot if he wanted to play a round.

I said yes and played a round with bike riding Rosa, for the obvious fan-service, and guys, this game...
Smooth as silk and better looking than SM3DW, it's definitely the best looking game in the console. Having fairly recent memories of MK Wii and 7 i can tell you it's the best MK after a very long time.
I was hyped before, now i don't know if i can wait till 30th.

Have Nintendo Confirmed weather the blue shell can be disabled in Online races???

You "can" but I say "can" because you can only turn it off by selecting one of the various "x items only" options when setting up a tournament.

You can only choose the following: no items, Frantic (which would make it worse), Mushrooms Only, Bananas Only, Shells Only, and Bob-Ombs Only.

In other words, it's nothing like Smash's item switch.

Barely manage? Proof please!

Fuck me damm, i can barely manage that with a GCN controller on a great day but a Wii Wheel 0_0

That dude is crazy

Key words here, i'm certainly not pulling out MKWii again for Rainbow Road time trials.

EDIT: If i wasn't clear enough.

I can barely manage to do that on a GCN controller (My controller of choice) without messing up (As in without great difficulty/frustration/not likely to ever try it in a race i am not winning by a large margin) on a great day for me.

The OT will be up one week before release. I'd say that's plenty of time for that. But sure if anyone wants to add me, my NNID is Jucksalbe.

ahh perfect then, I was afraid I skipped that. Anway, if anyone wants to add me as well, Currygan is my id

So it seems like people have the game. I'm guessing that that 30 character roster is final then, huh? Such a bummer. Even all the Koopalings don't make up for the lack of variety and BABIES EVERYWHERE.

Guess I'll hope for some DLC. Wants: King Boo, Petey Pirhana, Birdo, bowser Jr., Dry Bones, Diddy Kong, Dry Bowser, and OMG WHY WERE THESE CHARACTERS CUT

Are the screenshots on miiverse etc compressed or from the gamepad? I only ask as there's a couple in the screenshots thread that look pretty rough and are getting some hate.

pics from miiverse are lower res and compressed.
for the full res you need to upload them trough the browser.
