Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

Big MK fan (or I guess, was!) but struggling to get hyped at all about this. It looks just like the Wii game but in HD. I wish they would do something new, change the art style up, maybe do a paper mario kart, and have paper somehow play into the gameplay.

Sounds awesome but probably too ambitious for the new lazy Nintendo who is trapped in safe sequel hell.

What are you talking about? Yes the art style isn't some crazy change like going to Paper Mario but it's a leap above MK Wii. It's not just MK Wii but in HD, really.

It would have made more sense if you said I looks like MK7 in HD but even that isn't 100% accurate.

And the game looks ambitious considering the giant sprawling tracks and anti-grav elements. I think it's not "playing it safe" so much as it's naturally progressing the series to a grander scale while maintaining universal appeal.

I love it when people do that, "do something new, Nintendo! Here's a terrible idea that makes as little practical sense as I can possibly muster for the sake of extolling the average internet user's level of creativity over Nintendos, of course it's probably too ambitious for you, just like the Pokemon MMO with Dragon's Dogma combat and the open world exploration based Super Mario"

My biggest biggest biggest pet peeve about some gamers is how entitled they feel and how they continually to use the word lazy to describe developers with zero understanding about the game creation process.

Its baffling, frustrating, and brings neogaf down as a whole.

Zero understanding and not playing the critized games is a requirement. And yeah, it brings Gaf down. Should be bannable because it adds nothing to the discussion.
 
Love the stamps.

Was wondering if they were just gonna use the old MKSNES sprites and call it a day, glad to see they're going the 3D World way with new sprites.

I hope Smash Brothers, if it has stamps, makes new artwork of the characters done in the style of the N64 Box Art.

Yes.

Though, the closer MS and Sony are getting to be gaming PC's, which they are, id rather build a computer. No paywalls, cheaper games, pretty much infinite BC, and the freedom to run many programs. Nintendo's console is the only one that feels like a home gaming console that we grew up on.

edit: ...but of course, its all about the exclusives..

How... how does this look like the Wii game in HD at all? Are we even looking at the same game?
 
I have a feeling Pink Gold Peach will slowly be a favorite among many, even though the initial reactions of her reveal.
 
Lazy question because I'm sure I could find an example somewhere in the footage... but could someone explain how bananas work in zero-g sections? Do they just magically fall onto the track regardless of orientation in space?

Im going to assume they stick to walls/ceilings, because ive seen shells bounce around vertically, and not fall off. I could be wrong.

Not very likely, they had WWHD announced as releasing digitally on Sept. 20th well in advance (like I think since August in one of the Directs). They would have announced it at the MK Direct for this if that were the case.
