Mario Kart 8 : new trailer

You're probably right, but I would have preferred having the option even if it meant halving the FPS if you are in that mode.

I agree. That is, 60fps on tv, and 30fps on gamepad. Actually, is that even possible? I enjoyed playing sonic racing like that, but that was 30fps, for both screens.

I believe it will be a Bowser's Castle; so far every game had had at least one BC in the retro tracks.

MKDS had GBA Bowser Castle 2
MKWii had GBA Bowser Castle 3, N64 Bowser's Castle
MK7 had GBA Bowser Castle 1

The remaining castles are:
SNES Bowser Castle 1
SNES Bowser Castle 2
SNES Bowser Castle 3
GBA Bowser Castle 4
GCN Bowser's Castle
DS Bowser Castle
Wii Bowser's Castle
3DS Bowser's Castle

DS Bowser's Castle it is.

I would say the best retro tracks still available considering Mario Kart 8's features would be:

Bowser's Castle DS - Imagine going around that spinning cylinder in antigravity.
.

Exactly.
Also, the part where you can choose to spiral up the lava room. If they pull a Toad's Turnpike, and give you the option to go on the walls while spiraling upwards to avoid things...
Yes.

Done and done.

Nice ! :)

Just noticed when mario drives on the neon track near the end of the gif, the screen has purple squares floating around. Nice touch.

In the video it's way more pronounced. I'm guessing it might intensify depending on the lap since it was like everywhere in that clip when the race was in lap 3.

Also, I seriously can't get over how hilarious yet hype the jumbo tron showing the random Bowser minions getting hype in the club near the finish line is. :lol

The anti-gravity mechanic is gonna give us some crazy track design.

I can't wait to see MK8's Rainbow Road.

I seriously don't understand how they managed to make something as simple as collisions into a whole game mechanic with the anti grav sections. Watching that Koopa Klub (Electrodome) stage section just makes me wonder what the game's going to look like when everyone's got the fundamentals of the course down and we're all barreling down in close quarters trying to abuse some F-Zero levels of velocity for that last stretch.

Mind you, ever since Double Dash I've fucking hated collisions and off road racing in Mario Kart games. The massive loss in velocity when grazing walls and wonky blow back (especially in MKWii) just made me sigh.

Edit: The signage in this level and how it looks traveling through it is so impressive. Love the neon Star Cup sign bending with you as you travel past it.

I wonder if some items will be able to affect parallel tracks. Like the electrodome section where the green track was above the purple, say your on the purple track and you throw a bob-omb the explosion would hit the person nearest to it but also affect a player on the track directly above it.

I guess after seeing all this footage people can't say the WiiU isn't powerful enough to run that E3 Zelda Tech Demo...

Mario Kart surpasses that Tech Demo so much that now i'm more excited to see Zelda U this year

The other part of Electrodome clip:

F-Zero Trident all the way here.

If Rainbow Road has a 3-split path like Trident, I will love the Mario Kart Team forever.

Seriously though, I don't know how they will be able to top anti-gravity in terms of new ideas for course design. The new stages are going to outshine retro stages (except Rainbow Road 64 which has gotten a complete makeover).

I REALLY need to play F-Zero GX now, my God.

Also LOL @ the comments:

If F-Zero GX had an HD remake with online play on the Wii U, i hope they remove this type of speed.

We usually rely on Gamersyde to get the original trailers. And they obviously rely on publishers to deliver those trailer. But there's nothing from MK8. They do have an old offscreen 60fps clip from August

What about Gamersyde getting the Eshop versions of the trailers?

Visually they at least look better and if i remember correctly Gamersyde in an update a while ago said they now have capture cards for the WiiU.

I just went and checked the eShop. Is there any way to download trailer? All I saw was a link to a stream that may be a little better than Youtube quality.

oh and am I the only one who thinks that maybe the composers for this soundtrack took some cues from Sega Sound Team? Like all over the place

I honestly feel like this game has more than just sound coming from a Sega heritage. It's definitely Nintendo through and through, but I'm curious about what the composition of the MK team looks like now and whether or not there were any mass talent exoduses from Sega's AV or analogous group recently.
