Mario Kart 8 : new trailer

Just release this game. Two months left and we know almost everything....come on. I have nothing to play on my WiiU since february. I'm just sitting here waiting for Mario Kart 8. End of may? ....why.

Do we, though?

And it's not releasing now because they haven't started printing it nor started their marketing campaign. Release dates aren't arbitrary.

So these are all promotional covers and not meant to be seen as ingame? They sure fooled me..

those may not be in game, but they're not fooling you. check this youtube video, round the 1:00 mark... http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NnUyFrm25sw

The one thing I wish they'd get rid of is Mirror Mode. Never found it fun to "relearn" tracks, especially when playing online and you forget which version of a track you're on.

I agree, I'd much prefer 200cc or some other new idea like a hard mode of sorts where your given a random character and kart and some kind of item handicap, I don't know I'm just thinking out loud.

I'm not too familiar with most recent MKs, but there's any option to force a specific vehicle for all players? For example that every player uses only bikes, or only classic karts, etc.

Yup that was an option for the grand prix and vs races in mario kart wii. Not sure if 8 allows that yet.

No way man, I love that. It keeps you on edge a little bit, otherwise the game eventually just becomes going through the motions. It forces you to pay attention to what's going on by having it mixed in during online play.

But not in technical terms. The Lego Movie Videogame for PS4 is clearly superior:

I didn't say anything about technical terms although I can see why you made that connection. If you would simply ask me which one I think looks nicer Mario Kart 8 or The Lego Movie Videogame running on PS4 I would say Mario Kart 8 definitely.

I still can't get over the difference between Moo Moo Meadows from 6 years ago and today. But what's even crazier, is that Moo Moo Meadows was also an equestrian course in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, which was less than 2 years ago (on Wii).

Given we are so close to release now, I guess North America won't be getting that collectors edition?

Anyway to order and have it shipped to Canada? Would it be region locked?

So i showed the latest trailer to a good friend of mine(he thought the gamepad was an accessory for the wii, over a year ago, hes mainly an xbox player), and he kept saying, "thats the game?", as in, he couldn't believe it looked that good.

So yeah...MK8 is kinda a big deal...

But then the argument for what makes the most impressive game becomes pretty much entirely subjective, defeating the point of a lower-spec console game looking nicer than its competition being in any way extraordinary.

More than anything, Mario Kart 8 feels like a continuation Mario Kart 64's look. Double Dash and MK Wii always looked off, because they had that weird flat, cell-shaded lighting going on.

To put it other way, MK8 looks like what I thought MK64 looked like 18 years ago:

I think shiny plastic would be an more apt way of describing GCN and Wii.

I can't get this game off my mind. I've never been anywhere close to this excited for a Mario Kart game.

Ditto. Every other game I would just acknowledge and buy down the road. This one gets me jacked, due to the anti-grav courses, live music, and the gorgeous visuals. It feels like they're putting all their effort into this one.

I agree, even when MK8 has many things going on screen, everything looks cohesive, the color scheme and color transition is smooth, DD and a less degree MKWii always looked too satured for my taste. MK64 has the right balance IMO, maybe it looks reminicent of MK64 because visuals don't jump into your face.

It's more to do with the backgrounds. But your observation is apt.

I like how there's no clear-cut distinction between the vehicles, the foreground and the background. Basically, it doesn't look like someone just photoshopped the karts there.

I don't know why people are so down on Mario Kart Wii's look. I still think it looks good. The audio was very well done too: music was all catchy and the character/item sound effects didn't get annoying like they do in Mario Kart 7.

Also, I think LBP racing looks good in the above screenshots, actually. It's brown, sure, but it's very cohesive, artistically. I'd actually put it above sonic in that regard.

Modnation Racers and F1 look terrible though.

Wouldn't call it "ugly"

The water in 3D World is beautiful until you view it from far away and can see how it's tiled.

But yes, 90% of the time it's some of the best water out there.

Anyway. I haven't seriously played a Mario Kart since Double Dash, so I'm really excited for this game. And I agree that it's one of the most beautiful games out there right now.

*Cart Racers*

MarioKart8 is leagues ahead in terms of artstyle, looks much better than all of them. Wipeouzt HD/Fury would be the only similar game that stands a chance against MK8, tough those two are hardly comparable.
I wouldn't say that MK8 wouldn't be possible on Ps3 and XBox360, tough.

The frame rate would not be butter smooth. Of that I'm quite sure.
