Mario Kart 8 : new trailer

But no way would they make a pokemon fighting, espacially with a name as rediculous as...

Hmmm. I still have doubts about it, personally I think it's another stadium game.

Don't forget that it also has to be able to run on the 3DS, at a stable 60 FPS no less. They probably had to cut down on the complexity of the models and effects to do that.

You say this as if the 3DS version is a port of the Wii U game.

One thing I saw in the footage recently that does have me a bit bummed out in MK8 is that I saw it's 12 racers again....I just don't feel that's a good number for Mario Kart. The amount of items that can get thrown around with that many racers is one of the things that I felt made MKWii feel like complete chaos. MK7 felt so much more balanced because it was taken back down to 8 racers.

Definitely agree. I feel like 12 is just too many for Mario Kart - that's one of the reasons why I didn't like MK Wii that much. It felt way too chaotic at times because there were so many items at play. I wish we could customize that in the options for all modes.

That is really good to hear, because I was always trying to use bikes in MKwii because I knew they were better, but I never really could master them like other people obviously did.

probably why they made it so you can only have 1 item at a time

I actually prefer chaotic, 12 player races in Mario Kart. Mario Kart Wii has proven it to be far more fun (for me). Double Dash only having 8 makes the game feel a bit dull whenever I decide to play it again. Couldn't be happier with the decision to bring back 12 players.

Yeah, I'm thinking since you can only hold one item at a time now, it'll balance out. I know some people didn't like that change, but I think it's for the best if there are 12 racers.

That's one of the changes I'm most interested in. Seems like it will make item placement slightly more strategic, since you will simply have less items at your disposal.

Or it could not really make any difference at all.

Not to mention Hoshino (of Namco's Project Soul) apparently tweeted about the event where this concept shot was revealed, but then said tweet was deleted shortly afterward.

I saw that tweet myself, yeah. I wouldn't necessarily read too much into it, though.

I kind of dig it actually. it will make things just a bit more strategic. it will take some getting used to for sure but say you're in 4th or 5th place or something with 3 green shells. do you shoot em and try and get something to help you move up but risk getting a shit item? or do you just keep them to solidify your spot and try and move up on your own merits?

SSB4 and "Pokkén" will likely be accomplishing different things, respective for them to be different types of (fighting) games entirely.

I wouldn't be surprised if Zelda Musou and "Pokkén" both stand as examples of how Nintendo is much more willing to open the floodgates with collabs of this sort.

I'm slow, I only just now realised Tekken+Pokémon = Pokkén

I know I'm late but these have nice smooth FPS :)

As opposed to this blanket removal that makes them essentially pointless to have in the first place.

I don't know what they're doing here, but the low handling bikes controlled very different from any karts in Mario Kart Wii. The drift made them take sudden inward turns, making them overall very control sensitive compared to the karts. So, even removing the wheelies, they might still control differently here.

I think he mentioned it on his own.

He's not going to say it sucks because it's going to be bonkers.

Rainbow Roads are never even close to being my favorite courses but I'm intrigued to see what they did with it in this game.

The GameXplain dude said he didn't care for 7's Rainbow Road but I thought it was pretty memorable.

Yeah well Andre also said Kalamari Desert is one of his all time favorite all time Mario Kart tracks, which I find extremely bland. MK 7's Rainbow Road is the best one yet. However, he does seem to love Double Dash, so he gets points for that :p.

Personally, I don't agree with this at all. I don't have an X1 and don't plan on getting one, so I'm just looking at the PS4. And multiplats/indies don't do anything for me since I can get most of them them on PC. Granted PS+ is great and I get nice games from that. But there isn't a lot there for me aside from The Witness and maybe the Order. Meanwhile, Nintendo has tons of exclusives that look great coming in the next year or so

tons of exclusives? coming? on the wiiu?

Eh...yeah?

name a few pls....

It's not exactly the same (especially in terms of the future lineup), but "complete opposite" I don't think is a very accurate characterization for most people. For example the few people I know with PS4s haven't touched them in several weeks and have gone back to PS3 or PC for the time being (these particular people weren't interested in Second Son). And it's not just anecdotal. If you've been here any length of time, you'll know that sentiment is very comment on gaf, along with the sentiment that RIGHT NOW Wii U's lineup is more compelling than PS4bone (albeit it needed a year's headstart to get there). There's very little in terms of exclusives right now.

except if you are interested on online gaming...the wiiu is a fucking wasteland on that regard

I

More than PS4 or XBONE when you think about it. Kind of important considering that they're the only real reason to own a console anyway.

dont ge me wrong..but third party games are also a big reason to buy a console..

I don't know, I feel like all 7 of the Koopalings are tad unnecessary. Collectively, they're memorable, but individually, I can only name Ludwig, and I think Roy.

Would've preferred some SMB2 love a la Wort or something.

But they're in so, I'm okay with it.

Eats up development time that have gone to worthier and more important characters?

Haven't practically all the important Mario series characters been in Mario Kart by now? Koopalings have been with Mario since 1989 and barely had any representation.

Picking one or two of the seven makes no sense, so they have to do all seven.

I think it's pretty awesome, really. Just surprised it took so long, but I guess since New Super Mario Bros Wii, they've made a comeback (though they did appear in Mario & Luigi and Super Princess Peach)

You know maybe the game actually has some kind of a new story mode and Koopalings are in the game so that they can act as minibosses.

I am curious on how Nintendo is going to top this game as far as track design goes. These are, by far, the best looking and most interesting tracks in the series. If they remove anti-grav for MK9, I just think the track design will get so boring again. I hope they keep it.

I have to play the game, but you could be right. I am interested to see whether this will top Double Dash's track design for me. But I think they are running out of options from here to improve the formula. I would LOVE if they tried to go for a Little Big Planet thing with a huge focus on building tracks. Or they could go for the whole Nintendo Kart thing and bring in characters and courses from their other franchises. Imagine racing on a giant spaceship with Ridley flying around breathing fire at everyone. Or, as people have mentioned, make it more like Diddy Kong Racing and introduce different kinds of racing. I agree though that wouldn't really be Mario Kart.

Guys, don't feed the troll, he has an unfinished war to carry on.

oh the "they dont are on my side of thinking,so they are trolls" nice

no,i just asking..dude above said, there is a TON OF EXCLUSIVES coming to the wiiu..well i have a wiiu im interested..pls name me these exclusives

also i find absurd that we dont add thirdp party games to the lot..why? they are as important as exclusives to any catalog

Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros., Zelda U, Hyrule Warriors, Fast Racing Neo, Bayonetta 2, Yarn Yoshi, X, Sonic Boom.

ok thats a good response i dont know abut zelda yet.

I agree, but I'd put that criticism on metal mario, lakitu, and the babies more than on the koopalings.

Without his cloud and spikies, lakitu isn't interesting. Metal Mario is just dumb. And the babies... Well I just don't like them.

But Mario Kart has never had the most interesting roster anyway, so it's not the biggest deal.

Here's a handy resource (even if it's slightly outdated). But really if you want to discuss this further I would recommend you make a new thread on the subject. You could title it "i have a wiiu im interested..pls name me these exclusives" for example. It's really so easy to turn a thread to shit with something completely unrelated.

Is there any indication for that? Sounds like a cool idea.

Not beyond my own speculation but suddenly adding in 7 Koopalings would make a lot more sense. There's still a whole lot we don't know about this game. I wouldn't rule it out.

Third party multiplat form games are cheaper, and play and look better on PC. Wii u has no real third party support, but you were questioning exclusives and not multiplat form development. Quit moving the goal posts.

I'm sure they meant a "specific" console, but even without that, third party games these days are more of a big reason to buy a PC. Exclusive games that don't appear on PC are the reason to get a console regardless of who makes them.
