New artwork showing off the Piranha Plant and Boomerang.

DK looks like an asshole. XD

He looks really awful compared to the model in Tropical Freeze. That's to be expected though unfortunately.

I don't understand why people complain about Metal Mario being in Mario Kart when they don't care about Baby Mario being there... It's Mario Kart, it doesn't have to make sense. :P

Just look at those cargo lift lattices and you will know in your heart it to be true.

It's a platform. Every Mario has metal platforms. That doesn't mean there's an entire aesthetic. That level in particular is a fantasy ancient cave/dungeon type level with metal platforms in one section. The only levels I would describe as having an industrial aesthetic is Tick Tock Clock and Dire Dire Docks. That render in particular looks very much like a product of its time. Reminds me of those 3D renders they put on Trapper Keepers back then.

Well, Baby Mario comes off as a more original character, with Metal Mario simply being an alternate texture for Mario. I've learned to not be bothered by it anymore
since I already have Waluigi now.

Would people prefer Cosmic Clone because he's been in 3 mainline Mario games and is a separate character from Mario? Metal Mario became his own character in Smash Bros.

I don't mind Metal Mario because in my mind he essentially exists to give players that prefer heavy characters an option to play as Mario. Cosmic Clone could be heavy, as well, though.

There should be a Cosmic Clone item instead that just spawns multiple versions of you that trail behind and can knock in to other players. Be nice to have more offensive weapons for racers that are ahead rather than behind.

I can't help but think of City Escape each time I see this.

Driving around at the speed of sound,
Got places to go, gotta follow the rainbow.
Can't stick around, have to keep drifting on,
Guess what lies ahead, only one way to find out!

Must keep on driving ahead,
No time for guessing, throw a blue shell instead.
Trusting in what you can't see,
Take my lead I'll set you free.

Follow me, set me free,
Trust me and we will escape from the city.
I'll make it through, follow me.
Follow me, set me free,

Trust me and we will escape from the city.
I'll make it through, prove it to you.

Cosmic Clone was a character, not an item. You're suggesting the opposite of what they did with Metal Mario. If anything would be an item like this it would be the double cherry.

DK looks terrible in the render, especially when you have an awesome version avaiable within the same company. But Wario looks awesome. as. fuck.

That's an awesome render. Mario should go back to that austere, industrial design aesthetic of Mario 64. Though I guess that was "incidental" and due to the technological limitations.

The whole game was definitely not like that, but there were some parts of the game that felt cold, lonely, and industrial. It kind of scared me as a kid, especially with the music...

It would be interesting, though probably a bit disorienting, to see that with today's graphics. A Mario Kart track in that style would also probably be the most depressing track ever, lol.

Damn.I really had decided against a WiiU, but damn that "Nintendo Magic". This has gone to my must play list.

Guess I have to get a WiiU now.

Just noticed Wario doesn't have the stitching on his hat emblem... no fair.

Also, water you guys talking about, DK looks great in that render. Fur isn't too bad. Yeah it isn't godly like Tropical Freeze's, but at least it's not the aluminum foil mess up above.

I don't care about Mario Kart but I love to read this thread.

it's so damn rare to see people completely convinced of the qualities of a game prior to release.

Reminds me of the Mario Galaxy preview threads, ahh good memories.

It's not hard when a Mario Kart game hasn't looked THIS GOOD in ages, and that's coming from me as a huge fan of Mario Kart Wii.

Maybe DD was the last one that seemed like a leap? After MK64? Since then every MK has been a case of "that looks really fun" but not really "that looks DAMN impressive!"

You can tell that Nintendo is pouring more resources into this game than usual for the MK series, and it shows. People are just reacting to what they see with their own eyes.

God forbid people are looking forward to the only Wii U game coming out until the fall. Go troll somewhere else.

Actually, if the impending Smash Direct is any indication, Smash 4 may be farther along in development than we think. We already have what is likely to be more than half the roster. Put in a few more reveals & we could have a potential starting roster ready to go for the summer.

Cause with the last two games people got burned for doubting Nintendo's quality lol. (SM3DWorld, ALBW)

Do you guys have a gameplay video that shows a significant portion of Sunshine Airport? Specifically, what happens once you enter the Airport. I've seen a GameXplain vid but it only starts from the outside, on the landed plane part.

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen any gameplay footage of that track. Maybe it's embargoed because it leaks other track names/characters?

Same reason you shouldn't have a copy of Mario in Nazi uniform with a hitler moustache.

Metal Mario is that bad.

Awful analogy aside, I find it ironic the username you have and your post.

No way Nintendo was going to ditch Metal Mario when they had the power to make him look more badass than ever before.

He's not a great character but dam if he doesn't look awesome in this game.

(not to mention the fact that his vehicle can be/becomes chromed out as well)

You're really taking this very seriously, aren't you? :P

You made a claim and I refuted it. Don't try to insult me just because you can't back yourself up. Mario has been rampant with complaints by people wanting Mario to return to things that never were or the new games actually do.

Here's Tick Tock Clock:

Here's a 3D Land clock level:

How about Airships?

Or Castles full of metal platforms?

3D World?

Trains are pretty industrial:

The last level has you climbing a skyscraper.

If anything Mario is as industrial as or more than ever.

I also think that Mario Kart 7 was really damn impressive technically, given the hardware that it was running on.

Agreed. The fact that it holds a stable 60 even in 3D is pretty damn impressive. Something not even A Link Between Worlds is able to at times

For what it's worth, this level was the first and only time in which Bowser's army felt like, well, an army to me. It actually felt like Bowser was rolling to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom, even though this game technically wasn't set in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Curious thought. I still think Mario 3 did it better though, with the side-scrolling tank levels against a dark background. Felt really ominous and far less goofy than 3D World's.

What about the tank, navy, and air force levels from SMB3? And the other 3D World tank level? :)

Well, it was only the second castle. This happened later in the game:

lol WTF, relax

I am celebrating people's reactions to the previews and trailers. Like... I am happy people are happy for this game...

EDIT: Yeah I just read you misread my post, we're cool :-)

I remember. It's still decidedly less dark and still has those goofy (though I love them) wind-up enemies.

It's pretty clear to me they weren't trying to make it that dark, so I'm not knocking it--just comparatively, Mario 3's seemed a lot more intimidating,

Ah, almost missed this!

I saw that tweet myself, yeah. I wouldn't necessarily read too much into it, though.

I dunno. Sometimes, in cases like this, I just like to go with the notion that the simplest answer is often the correct one. Not to mention we have confirmation that Namco's Harada wants to apparently unveil several games (but at least two titles) this year. And, perhaps more interesting, they're NOT Tekken.

Besides, in this post-Pokémon x Nobunaga and Zelda Musou world? Pokkén just doesn't seem really all that "out there", any more.

But in any case, I'm sure the likes of Namco and Koei would appreciate the likes of MK8 expanding the Wii U audience before their games get a chance to take the stage. Which is why I'm hoping that MK8 jump-starts some momentum for the Wii U for more than one reason!

Feed these next few weeks a Golden Mushroom already so they can by faster, dammit!

EDIT: Thank you MYE. This will be going onto my Desktop at work!

Eh, it's kinda hard to get darker than black.

The remake is the least intimidating.

It's pretty weird that Kamek still isn't playable in any Mario Kart. He should totally make the cut.

I've never actually thought about MK rosters like this before, but Kamek, a bunch of the Subcon dudes and the Sprixies, and Captain Syrup wouldn't feel out of place in these games at this point.

I think it's plausible to expect some of those playable. Given the number of characters revealed so far, and assuming the game will still have non-revealed, unlockable characters, they're running out of possibilities!

I don't really Metal Mario. But to honest, I don't care much about rosters in MK. It's always been more about the karts to me, and their designs.

If Metal Mario were in something like Smash though....I'd get pretty annoyed.

They gotta save something for sequels, y'know!

Again, I just figure that with the Koopalings being added, it opens the floodgates for a whole bunch of new possibilities, past and present, for MK rosters to come.

If ever the day comes when a RPG-originating character like Dimentio, Fawful, Antasma, Midbus or Dark Bowser graces the roster, we can pretty much conclude that all bets are off.

Then again, part of me still hopes that a character like Foreman Spike (Wrecking Crew) may appear by surprise, one day.
